Latino? What happened to the Lamenites? Which are which?

Davis

LAMANITE is the term for these people in the Book of Mormon. You know, those cursed with a skin of blackness for their unbelief and wicked ways. LAMANITE... at least get the term correct.

Lexicon change

With the DNA issue few church leaders are willing to call Latinos "Lamanites."
Sadly, many missionaries and members have not made the transition.
It appears that most Latinos orginated from China, not Israel. We're still searching.
The conventional wisdom now says that there were other groups on the continent and that Lehi's family made up only a small, isolated part of the whole.
As for Latino firesides and museum exhibits, the church is merely catering to a large and growing segment of the membership.

One lexicon is short on facts.
Being descended from Lehi doesn't mean no intermarriage or adoption took place.

We should all know better than to close our minds at the first hater theory.

I know of no evidence proving that Native Americans came from China, or even the Chinese.

There is a mountain of evidence indicating Middle Eastern origins.

Genetics is only one issue, and that can only prove relationships, not origins. One recent study concluded that Native Americans aren’t related to any other people. Several older studies assume a relationship to certain Turkic peoples, Altai, etc, in the North Countries, where Joseph's people went.

The BOM teaches that millions were here when Laman arrived. We don’t know their genetics. We do know that Nephites interacted with Jaredites, the Lamanites probably did also, etc.

As was pointed out on the Mormon Times, the female line is passed on. Lamanite genetic studies look at females in the family, so possibilities include Ishmael ’s wife, the Asiatic Asenat, Jaredite women, Mulekite unknown wives, those unnamed but alluded to in the BOM etc.

All Native Americans can still be related to, descended from Lehi's unknown genetics and intermarry.

Also, haters love to quote the blackness thing trying to promote their own misunderstanding and bigotry against LDS. Lehi was dark skinned in our modern terminology. Many ancient cultures (including people in the North Countries mentioned above) used color tones to describe ways of life, even when there was little apparent difference in skin color. They did not see it as we do today.

The curse was a separation. Nephites were also cursed at times (and some had a self inflicted red mark), and Lamanites were often and ultimately more righteous than Nephites, which is why their culture survived in America (Nephites only intermixed and on Islands etc.)

Europeans (Gentiles) were cursed for much longer than any of Joseph’s descendants, and were restricted from priesthood for thousands of years.
