My hubby and I found these lights last Christmas. We just loved them. We made sure, to see them again this year.
In my opinion HOAs are one of the worst curses of our society! Someone does something extra ordinarily amazing like this to give Utah a good name and help the less fortunate and this is his neighbors response to that?!!
How about letting us know which gated community it is so that we all know enough to never buy a home there? After all, who would want neighbors with that kind of attitude?! Seems you would not want to associate with 11 out of the 13.
"After that year, the Homeowner's Association in his gated community voted 11 to 13 not to open the gate in December and let people in to see the lights."
Ah, so much to comment on this particular little piece of selfish, self-centered self-important non-holiday cheer.
But in the interest of the season, I shall not.
This is a perfect example of why I hate gated communities. There us something seriously wrong with you people. Bah! Humbug!
HOAs protect their owners from the insanity of one of their members. Maybe the other homeowners would like to have friends and relatives over for the holidays without having to deal with horrible traffic jams and no parking.
This article was about my display and I wanted to explain a few things. I hope my HOA knows that I have nothing against them and I respect their decisions. I spent more than 30 minutes talking to the reporter about the display and only about 30 seconds on why it was moved. I am asked hundreds of times why I moved the display so I tell them the simple truth. People move into a Gated Community with an HOA for various reasons and I agree that the majority should rule. A decision was made and instead of not doing the display I simply moved it. The article makes it sound like the reason I don't have lights on my house is because of "spite" which is not the case. Everything I have has been moved to the new location and all my time which is limited is spent working on it over there.
I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas including all my neighbors. I hope you all have a great Holiday Season.
As a wise friend once told me "Hey! Its only Christmas Lights!"

Class act. Holdman. Good work. Keep it up.
After reading such a wonderful article, I was saddened by the comments. As Mr. Holdman said, he talked to the reporter for 30 minutes about the project and 30 seconds about the lights. I bet he is disappointed that the readers did the same.
Good job Mr. Holdman. The lights look wonderful and I agree that people live in a gated community for a reason. If someone does not want any rules from an HOA then they should move to the country. Keep up the good work. I hope you raise a lot of money this year. It's a great cause.
I want to know more about wind power to do this every year. Wonderful!
If you have not seen these lights before, do yourself a favor and go. I first saw them last year and have made two trips this year. I tell anybody I can about them because I think it is a fantastic display. Thank you Richard Holdman!
