Cleveland made a lot of excuses - bottom line is Rose is a better coach and actually wants to be at BYU.
This looks an awful lot like the Cleveland at BYU - blaming someone else, inheriting a mess blah blah blah. He did a nice job, but I got tired of his attitude. Glad Rose is the coach.
The truth is that Coach Cleveland brought BYU literally back from the dead and turned us into a perennial conference contender, and he deserves the respect of any and all BYU fans forever more for whatg he did.
It is almost beyond relief that the two losers above would take this opportunity to bash the guy who took a program that was battling for the spot as the worst team in Div 1 and brought it to battling in an upper tier. I'd guess these are the same guys who wish we could get rid of Coach Mendenhall and get a "real" coach in here.
I agree with The Truth....Having been around Coach Cleveland in Provo and Fresno State i can say from my experience he is one of the great coaches in the land because he cares about his players and really wants them to succeed on and off the court. I hope Fresno State runs BYU into the ground because of "fans" like some of you.
Dear Jumbo and Classic. Oh, how negative you are. I can just imagine you as lonesome, because you see everything in a negative light. Your nasty mean-spirited comments show a lack of humanity and compassion. Why was he so bad. The Y had only won only one game before he came he reestablished them as a winning program. I am glad Rose is here, but you have to hand it to Cleveland for jumping into the fire in Fresno. Says alot about his vision and guts. Hope is is successful, except against BYU>
I was at BYU when Cleveland came. He really did turn things around. He deserves a lot of credit for what he accomplished. I think many under-appreciate what he did for at BYU during his tenure.
Respect Cleveland a ton.
During his tenure we didn't like BYU, but had to respect Cleveland as a coach and a person.
Not so much for the current coaching staff. Good coaches, but less respect.
Again, ton of respect for Cleveland. He's a good man.
I like how the truth and anonymous got all riled up...that's really funny to me.
Still doesn't excuse how the handled the Reid situation - they really bungled that. Cleveland was just a band-aid - Rose is the real deal.
My guess is all these people fawning over Cleve thought Rondo Failberg did a great job too.
How many NCAA tournament games did Cleveland win?
I remember when Cleveland came to BYU. He did not make excuses or blame other people, he just simply told the truth and was honest about his and the teams situation. You cannot improve or progress without knowing your starting point or where you need to go. Cleveland did that at BYU and he has apparently done it again at Fresno. Steve Cleveland is a tremendous coach and shining example of what hard work and a "North Star" can do..
Credit needs to be given when it is due. Cleveland did a great job doing what needed to be done at BYU and is doing the same at Fresno.
How can you assume the first 2 comments are from BYU fans?
I think Rose is a better coach, but Cleveland was the springboard for current success. Go away bashers and give the guy some love.
Good luck to coach Cleve. He brought BYU basketball out of a coma and we should be grateful for that. As for the two yahoos above, they are Ute fans. If they can't see what Cleve did for BYU they are more blind than Ray Charles.
Wish Cleve all the best.......with exception of playing BYU.
Cleveland definitely deserves credit for reviving the Cougar program. I think Ingle would have done a pretty good job but the program needed a fresh start, especially with the uofu so strong during that time period. I have enjoyed following his revival of a poor Fresno team while Rose has taken the Cougars to a new level and on the cusp of greater success (NCAA tourney victory).
The first two comments were from cousins: Classic and Jumbo Troll.
When he arrived in Provo, Cougar Basketball was in very serious trouble.
commented the way thay did= they are both LOOOOOOOOSSSEEEERRRSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first thing Cleveland did when he took the job was he shored up the recruiting of Mekeli Wesley who was the corner stone of the turn around at BYU. I think Mr Harmon, neglected giving props to Mekeli for coming to a 1-25 team and being the 'Man' on the team for Cleveland to build around with the aforementioned players in Seleze, Bigs etc...
