Best of luck Pitta, you are more than deserving of the award.
Pitta is a great competitor who has a bright future in the NFL. He will be missed at BYU, not only because of his amazing talent, but because of the humble manner in which he dominated the opposition. Thanks Dennis for the memories here at the Y...oh wait, he's got one more game :)
I'm an avid Ute fan but I'm also a Pitta fan. He's a class act and a tremendous athlete. I hope he gets the award, he certainly deserves it when you compare his stats to the stats of his competitors for this award.
Good luck Pitta and go Utes!!
Thanks Dennis for the Memories you are a class act and will be missed at the Y. Good luck you have earned the award. Also Andrew George made BYU the best tight end combo in the Nation.
Pitta is very deserving of this award and is definately a class act. He is the best TE in the country hand down. However, he likely won't receive the award due to lack of exposure. I am sure very few of the voters have even seen him play. Thanks to The MTN!!
Regardless of whether the voters give this award to Pitta tonight, it's a great honor for Pitta to be in the top three and Pitta's been a great representative of the program. He's definitely lived up to the great tradition of TEs at BYU and he leaves huge shoes to fill. May he tear it up in teh Vegas Bowl and go on to a great NFL career.
Pitta is a good man and deserves to win.
Dennis Pitta, BYU
2009: 57 catches, 784 yds, 7 TDs
Carrer: 216 catches, 2856 yds, 20 TDs
Aaron Hernandez, Florida
2009: 59 catches, 739 yds, 4 TDs
Career: 102 catches, 1271 yds, 11 TDs
Dorin Dickerson, Pitt
2009: 45 catches, 508 yds, 10 TDs
Career: 59 catches, 687 yds, 12 TDs
If the voters vote on actual performance, rather than team and conference affiliation, Dennis is clearly the best TE in the country.
Here's the list of voters:

Marc C. Connolly – ESPN
Lee Corso – ESPN College GameDay
Tom Dienhart – Yahoo! Sports/Rivals.com

Dick Weiss – NY Daily News
Kellen Winslow – NFL Hall of Fame tight end
Ute fan but Love Pitta and his ability and his classy way of handling football.
He is the sure thing receiver and will do well in the NFL. Hope he gets the award.
I totally agree. Pitta should win the award, but probably won't. Harline should have won it too hands down but didn't.
I saw Pitta last week at a Jazz game and was suprised to see how tall and big the dude is. Plus, his speed and hands are excellent. Dennis Pitta is probably the best tight end ever at BYU and much better than Jonny Harline. His stats prove it.
Awesome season thanks to Pitta and George. Great players and people. I think Pitta will get the award, but regardless, he was the best in my book.
Attention all tight ends that view this post.....an opportunity exists to fill two tight end positions at Brigham Young University.....must be tough nutz so to speak.....Dennis Pita and Andrew George(who is still running)occupied position past season. No need to apply at U of U. Tight Ends block at Utah and rarely get there number called for serious football play...
Thank you Dennis and Andrew....
I saw my first Cougar football game in 21 years when the Cougars played Air Force....what an amazing experience to see you two play and enjoy the rest of the team as the Cougars dominated Air Force...from one Cougar fan to the rest of us that appreciate your hard work and determination to bring success to the BYU program...I think the two of you are the best and equally believe Dennis is the best in the land.....Go Pita.....win the Mackey Award!!!
Ute fan here rooting for Pitta to win. Great player.
Aaron Hernandez, Florida win the award? Joke, Joke, Joke, freakin political.
BOOOOO Aaron Hernandez. Ridiculous.
Dennis Pitta, you're the man. Ute fans love ya, BYU fans love ya. You're a class act, and you deserved this award.
Hernandez won?!?!?!?!?!
What are HIS stats?
Article quote: "Pitta is No. 1 in the nation among tight ends in receiving yards (784), total catches (57), yards per catch (13.8) and yards per game (65.3). He is second in touchdowns (7)."
So.....receivers, which TEs are, biggest contribution to a team is to catch the ball and move it down the field. And here's Pitta, number ONE in receiving yards, number ONE in total catches, number ONE in yards per catch and number ONE in yards per game and 'merely' SECOND in TDs and he doesn't win the award?!?!?!!?
What the frick, over?
BYU and Pitta were ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!
So all stats identical with Pitta and Hernandez, except that one small detail: Pitta has 3 more TDS!
Politics in College Football at its finest. The BCS maybe is the most unamerican big business in this country.
