how is pleasant grove still ranked higher than springville when springville beat PG by double digits...these rankings are a joke
Hmmm. Pleasant Grove is ranked higher than Springville even though Springville is undefeated and Pleasant Grove has a loss. Oh yeah, and that loss was to Springville who beat them badly (by about 30 points, wasn't it?) And yet PG is still the better team?? Whoever puts these rankings together needs to get a clue.
I agree, these rankings are a joke!! You have Springville who has beaten everyone so far by considerable margins to include the 2nd rated team and the 10th rated team and you have them 5th. Obviously, those that make these rankings up don't pay attention.
These rankings are sooo out there! Not only is it crazy to have PG as the #2 team in the state when they got worked by Springville, but to have Layton in the top twenty is funny too. The got smashed by Alta. Lehi, Riverton, Wasatch or Provo are not top teams either. Lehi will get rocked by Judge Memorial by a huge margin. How could Judge be left out? They beat a 4A team by like 60 and return unbelivable guards. Brighton will be solid but will probably finish 5th in their super tough region. Riverton won their games but have played terrible teams. Wasatch lost way too many to compete with the best of 3A, and Kuchar at Provo is unbelivable but her team overall will struggle in a tough region. Timpanogas should be listed for sure. Bailey alone makes them a contender plus they have a very solid cast. They beat both opponents by 20. The writers must have been spending too much time with all-state football to get basketball even anywhere close.
How is Judge ranked #3 in the rankings above Morgan and Wasatch, yet they are not in the top twenty. Any Olympus and Mountain View are ranked #4 and #5 in 5A, but Woods Cross is not ranked, yet in the top twenty Wood Cross is there and Mountain View and Olympus are not listed. Not much consistency across the board.
Riddle me this Batman In your class 3-a rankings, you have richfield rated #1 but behind Wasarch and Morgan in the top 20. You have Judge rated third ahead of Wasatch and Morgan but they are nowhere to be found in the top 20. So, are these rankings done by two seperate groups or you just throw darts at names on a board ?
Wasatch they got beat by 11 at home.
The team that beat them is below them alone.
Morgan is good and so is Memorial.
But I think the rankers need a tutorial!!!
At least be consistent in what you do.
You can't have two ranking that are so much askew
One team ranked first above all the rest
But then in the other not close to the best.
But when all is said, no matter what you all do.
We'll settle it in February at old UVU!!!!
these rankings are a joke, i mean they are not even close to reality!
we in davis county try not to worry about the rankings because we rarely have a team out here that is ranked. I really wouldn't worry too much it will all come out in the end. I know americanfork is good again, but they might be in for a surprise this year. lol. they don't even have the talent they had last year. Don't get me wrong they are still very good.
The rankings are still "early season" rankings everybody? After the next two weeks we will know alot more! The good teams will settle in and the "so,so" teams will weed themselves out. I see this being the best year ever in UTAH HIGH SCHOOL girls basketball. Lots of great exsperienced gaurd play in all divisions, and just enough Big Man exsperience to compliment those gaurds!
One's to watch Kuchar, Morrison, Eaton, Moore, Porter, Lyman and many more!!!!!
a side from the rankings the poem is awesome!!!
Deseret News needs to stop putting together rankings if they are going to be this bad. These rankings are ridiculous!!! PG at number 2 when Springville completely worked them over by 30 and Spanish Fork almost beating them. Not to mention Snow Canyon still ranked ahead of them in 4A after Springville beat them by 20. Wow, who put these together??..They are clueless!!!
My top 5
Syracuse
Springville
American Fork
Skyview
Bingham
Springville could be higher than Syracuse, Springville beat up on Pleasant Grove, but Syracuse has an average point differential of almost 25. American Fork has had an easy schedule without that difference. Springville or Syracuse should be first in the state, and then the rest. Brighton has also won by a ton, but their schedule has been very easy.
HOW CAN YOU RATE TEAMS WITHOUT PUTTING LAYTON CHRISTIAN ON THE LIST. WHAT ARE YOU GOING BY THIS SCHOOL IS 4-0, HOW IS THAT FOR RANKING.
DESERT NEWS IS AWFUL.
I agree that the talent pool in Utah has grown signficantly in the past two years. We have many legit college players in the state. In the past we are lucky if we see 3-5 players play above the JuCo level. This year the state is stacked with talent from north to south. Up north Skyview is loaded with talent with many of them that will have a chance to play college ball. Up north there is Martin, Hazlett, Porter, Harry. In the SL Valley there is Morrison, Jenkins, Beaudoin, Ramos, Mitchell, La'amanou (sp?), Martinez, Mancini. In Park City Kasel is tearing it up. Utah County is stacked with Bailey, Eaton, Krommenhoek, Funk, Johnson, Hamson, Kuchar, Clements, Farnsworth. What a fun year for girls basketball! I would hate to be on the staff of the D-News and have to pick a Ms. Basketball out of this group of fine ladies. Good luck to all this year!
My top 5 for 5A would be:
1-Syracuse(3-0)
2-Bingham (3-0)
3-American Fork (3-0)
4-Alta (3-0)
5-Taylorsville (4-0)
My top 5 for 4A would be:
1-Springville (4-0)
2-Skyview (2-0)
3-Timpanogas (2-0)
4-Wood Cross (3-0)
5-Snow Canyon (2-2)
Oh come on... don't they have 8 D-1 players and these kids have played together since they were 8. That is why PG is ranked where they are!
They also got slaughtered by Springville.
PG got beat up by Springville this year, and a nearly identical Syracuse team beat PG last year. PG would get creamed by any of the other teams in the 5A top 5. They belong lower.
Syracuse 102 Davis 40 let's see most of the game played by JV players. Who's #1 in the state?
