not to mention that we lost 3 games by 4 points or less, lost 3 games to top 25 teams while playing respectably, and lost to perennial powerhouse texas A&M by 8 and had a chance to tie it at the end. our only real hiccup was vs hawaii in a game that we were favored to win.

coach andersen and the team had a fantastic season. i can't wait to see how they improve next year!

Aggie Watcher

The progress this team has made on the field and the class room speaks volumes of the commitment the coaching staff, players and administration have made with the football team.

USU played 7 teams that are playing in Bowl games this year, in comparison the other teams 2 major teams in the state played 5. Very tough schedule for USU.

Recruit hard and work hard in the off season, look forward to next year.

Great article! This year was extremely exciting, though not always pleasant. I was so proud of our offense and look forward to having the vast majority of our players come back for the next go around. I also think that our defense made a bunch of critical plays that don't necessarily show up in the overall statistics, but that were crucial in our wins. Especially the fumble recovery at the goal line vs Idaho. Game Changer!

Thanks again to the whole team, coaching staff, fans and administration for making football a focus. I feel that we can compete with anyone now, and that the w's will start to come in higher amounts. I also agree that Coach Andersen grew from the beginning of the season to the end.

Go Aggies and can't wait for BYU at home on 10-2-09! Just beat them and my year is made!

Santa is pleased with what coach A (Aggie) has accomplished in his first year. I suspect there will be a few nice recruiting presents under coach A's x-mas tree this year. I hope Santa leaves me 2010 Aggie Football season tickets in my stocking on Christmas morning

Coach Andersen inherited a team lacking size and strength. He will change that situation with good recruiting. His players love him and will do anything for him. He will take this team to the next level in two years. You will see his defensive players improve dramatically. They were competitive in almost every game. Go AGGIES from a UTE fan.

agree

big strides were made this year, i am not a big aggie football fan, huge byu fan, but i enjoy the aggies. to see what they did this year was great, i felt like this team was very capable of going to a bowl game, not only does the D need to improve but they need to reconize that they can win games, they've been beat up for so long they forgot how to win, hence the close loses, and the close loses came from coach anderson's staff, a coach guy team wouuld've quit and gave up by 3 quarter. so i think that next year the aggies go 6-6, or 7-5, and go to a bowl game, and i expect the die hard aggie fans to expect that, win the close ones and you'll be amazed on how your record can from 4-8 to 7 to 8 wins. they have the talent to do it, i went to the boise state game and they flat out out played them for there for a little bit. best of luck aggies.

Next year

Despite the record not being much different, It was obvious the team had improved offensively. The defense needs some work. But I think they should be able to compete for second place. They are light years behind boise but other than that they showed they could play with everybody else in the conference. The home conference schedule should be manageable they will have the broncos and wolf pack as two tough road games. But a bowl game is definately achievable.

Does anybody know who their nonconference oppponents are next year?

2nd down and forever

Yeah, let's see. One more win. At this rate, we might see a winning record in another three years, if we can learn to beat some of the worst teams in the country (like New Mexico State and Hawaii).

Andersen, the nonaggie, has you all hoodwinked.

Pulling for USU

Wouldn't it be sweet to have three top tier NCAA Fotball Teams in the State?

I like Gary....he is a class guy!

I even have a blue chipper son on a mission whose dream has always been to play for BYU! He has had talks with both BYU and Utah....but I am encouraging him when he gets home to visit USU!

USU has a great atmosphere and great place to play football and get an education.....

Go Aggies...welcome the Land of a Promising Future!

Next years nonconference games

USU plays Oklahoma, Idaho st. san diego st and byu.

The Problem is..

that you are still Utah State. USU still has a tough schedule next year and will lose 7 to 8 games again. Improvement did happen. USU will NEVER make it to a bowl game. Even is they somehow squeak out 6 games over the next three years, nobody will invite due to the fact that they can't even sell out their own stadium against good teams and will consequently be overlooked similiarly to how it happens to Wyoming.

USU will also NEVER beat any team from in-state except SUU and possibly Weber on occasion.

Anderson will bolt as soon as a bigger school comes calling.

RE: Next Years Non-conference

USU will lose three of the four. Will also lose to Boise State, Fresno State, lose in Hawaii and Nevada. That is at least 7 losses. They might win 5. Is that improvement? I guess so. Gary might leave after winning 5 games.

lost in DC

It's sad to see the nay-sayers commenting here. Let's celebrate the improvement and look forward to more. Even if it's long in coming isn't it better to have hope than to think all you'll ever have is an abysmal program.

WinSum

Congrats.....very good first year and looks promising for next. Takes time to turn around so many years of being down. Best wishes.

Partially Agree

We all wonder where the next win will come. Maybe admin should schedule a few more easy games to get us over the hump. Less games with powehouses like Oklahoma and get more teams like UTEP, Wyoming, UNLV that don't hurt us to schedule but are decent. If we win 6 or 7 consisistantly, then bring back some more payday games. I am tired of losing to Utah and BYU. Why isn't Utah on the schedule next year?

I Hope Anderson...

Can recruit some great athletes. We will never compete against Boise, Utah or BYU but we can one day be similar to Fresno orNevada.

Next season

Utah State will take BYU to the wire...

You heard it here first.

Kaddie

Utah State will be a competer. Coach Anderson is a terrific coach and class act guy. Give him another year to recruit and refine the program and you will see Aggies winning big. Go Aggies!!!!! And Coach Anderson I think the Utes missed you a bit. Good job. One year down two to go......

Re: The Problem is.. 2:01 p.m.

You must be the same guy that predicted a 20 point BYU win over USU in basketball.

You predict "USU will NEVER make it to a bowl game." Never is a long time. You probably shouldn't take that bet to Vegas.

USU was 8 points from being bowl eligible this year and 12 points from being 7-5. With some continued adjustments look for USU to be bowling next year and to be competitive (perhaps even some upsets) with powerhouses BYU and BSU.

re: partially agree

the UU and USU are taking a 2 year hiatus last I heard.
