This is an extremely well-written article. I was really happy it was George that caught the pass, and I think he deserves to be recognized. This article highlights this play in a way that I couldn't even conceive of before reading the article. It increases my appreciation for that great moment in BYU sports history. Thanks Dick.
P.S.--The picture mentioned in the article is now my background on my laptop desktop.
Execution is the reason BYU beat Utah......HHmmmm. I don't know,it is true that Utah had more speed on Defense, but, Andrew was "Quicker" "Speedier" to the ball.... HMMMM...
For simply one passing reference you post a photo of Brady. At least you added his hot better half.
Very nice article, as so often happens with Dick Harmon.
I really liked George's touchdown catch in New Mexico as well. He seemed so happy both times, it really rubbed off on me.
I think BYU fans need to remember what Gaskins did for the team this year. He basically sacrificed any chance he had to play in order to make the team better for next year by allowing Riley Nelson to move up to number 2 QB. In my book, I say start Gaskins in the bowl game BYU. Max should not start the bowl game. This would be a classy move. Anyone else agree???
Great article! Very well written and analytical of the factors that go into a great football game (on both sides). Harmon continues to excel every year, season after season. The Deseret News is fortunate to have him as a writer and we are fortunate to be able to enjoy his articles on BYU sports.
There were many people who, prior to the game, claimed that because we had lost to FSU and TCU that we had no chance against utah utes. Well, I think you have seen what happens when BYU "plays it's game" and executes at the level we are capable of. If this can be replicated look for a win in the Las Vegas Bowl (or at least I hope that we are in the Vegas Bowl.
Really over the top to have a photo to Brady however, the deflection tactic the past week has also been over the top.
The comments and picture of Tom Brady are just a little strange.
Awesome article! One of the best I've read here.
Nice try at establishing a slogan for George.
It's too late because -
Max is still running his mouth...
Max is still hating....
And, Utah is still 2 and 0 in BCS bowl games.
A terrific sports article...a beautiful written replay of an outstandingly executed route, pass and completion. Indeed Mr Harmon, a play to always remember. Thanks for reporting/writing with purity and not bias blindness.
And Utah still lost 26-23. HA!
BYU fans stormed the field to celebrate taking second place in the MWC.
hehe...
And Max still hasn't busted the BCS...
Slogans work for Cougars because that's all they have.
Utes prefer being counted among the handful of teams undefeated in BCS bowl games.
Cited for awesomeness!!!!!
Thanks Max for "4th and 18" and now for "George is Still running".....BUT most of all for frustrating any Ute fan trying to make sense of their loss.
True, the Utes do have 2 BSC wins, but how many national championships do they have?
If Pitta is the best TE in Y history, Andrew George could well be the second-best. Many games this year Pitta didn't have squat til the 2nd half, and George would be havin' himself a game.
Check his numbers. They might surprise you.
I've enjoyed reading Dick Harmon's articles through the years. An enduring memory from my youth involved waking up Sunday morning, grabbing the sports section from the Daily Herald, and reading about the Cougar's latest conquest. His writing produces a savory enjoyment of the game. In my opinion, He's the best beat writer in the state.
Best article ever, really? This is what coaches teach players to do every day in practice.
Really?
Best ever?
Read something besides the Daily Universe and the Daily Herald, and all sorts of good reading possibilities are out there.
Does anyone else find this article humorously ironic? Dick is writing how Andrew George can't get out of Dennis Pitta's shadow, and then finally when he has a GREAT catch, Max Hall is an idiot and we all focus on that, and THEN, in an article feeling bad for George, he can't even get a picture of himself, instead the author chooses a picture of Tom and Gisel. Anyone else find that interesting?
