Why would he retire? If he stays with the Jazz even in an inactive role he still gets paid. He retires and that goes away. He will stay under contract for this year, get paid, and then announce his retirement at the end of the year. Thanks Harpring for all you did for the Jazz. We loved watching you.
Sorry to hear that. Go ahead and hang up the sneakers, Matt! You were good and will be missed.
Why dont they have a picture of him actually doing something? Instead of this where he looks old and limping...
Matt,
You've been in the NBA a long time. Hang up the sneakers and enjoy some fishing whatever it is you want to do.
Matt has been an outstanding role model for youth in our community and his play on the court has been a real joy to watch over the past several years. Our family is sad to see you go, but delighted with the positive impact you've made here in Utah.
Thanks for the memories matt. I loved your brawls with Artestand battles with Kobe, and Carmelo. You were the perfect example of what hard work can accomplish.
Finally, a single tear falls down my cheek.
I personally think that most NBA players and many other professional athletes are overpaid, overenabled and spoiled brats. They make more in one game than many small businesses gross in a week or a month! However, there are a few like Matt that have been players our youth could look up to on and off the court. Some players are just good guys. The Jazz has seemed to have a few more than other teams over the years. Matt is one of them. Thanks Matt, you were appreciated for your abilities and your example! Good luck with the rest of your life.
Matt will be missed. He was a fun player to watch. Best of luck to you Matt!
Gonna miss Matt,he`s been an asset from day one,a tough, hard worker, who never backed down from the kobe`s,I hope someone will step into his shoes, kinda looks like Matthews might be that guy, anyway, thanks for all your hard work,Matt,it was truly appreciated
Tough ol' boy was not much more talented than me but played his heart out. Wish I could retire at 33. Good example, good role model. Bet you see him do some coaching.
for a child's game ...and you have no say over me what so ever ...
Matt has been an hard worker and great guy. The Jazz is, for sure, losing a "class act." I wish this gentlemen the very best.
Matt,God Bless and Good luck. If the rest of the team played with half the heart you played with, an NBA champonship is ours.
Matt was a good guy. He works hard and doesn't afraid of anything.
I'm sorry to hear this. Matt was a great player and one who put it all out there on the floor for the fans and his team. He would make a great coach and I hope he'll have a continued relationship with the Jazz. He also was the most artful "floper" in the business. :-)
Good luck Matt. We'll miss your drive and talent.
I'll miss Harpring. I'll miss his hard work attitude and his hard nose basketball style of play he brought to the court every game. I wish more players on the Jazz had the same determination and work ethic.
Thanks for the great example you set working hard playing tough. My 12 year old attended Matt's basketball camp. I can't think of a better person to inspire young players.
We will greatly miss your grit!
As long as the Jazz have to pay him this year, put him on the bench and maybe he can teach a little toughness to the players.
I grew up in North Carolina as a Tarheel fan. The only time I ever pulled for another school was when Matt played for GT. He is a class act and an awesome player. It's been fun to see him play again for the Jazz. I wish him the best in all future endeavors, if there is any one in the world of Pro sports that deserves it, it's Matt Harpring
