Mitchell

plays the system, tries to toy with the investigators, and totally knows that he will hang when this is done. If Elizabeth could go at any time, why did he hog-tie her to a tree? What a false statement.

THEeyepatch

Almost 7 years later, the wheels of justice just might be getting some new tires. What's the total cost of this farce so far?

Nick

Clearly, Mitchell is NOT incompetent, but anyone who would call him a prophet, certainly would get some serious consideration.

Annoyed

He is very manipulative, he knows exactly what he is doing, and doing it purposely to prolong his trial. He gets 3 and a cot...

Please

Fast forward this charade. Mitchell is crazy like a fox.

More to the story

I've always PERSONALLY felt (my opinion) that there was "more to the story" than we ever were told. I, like many others, heard about the abduction and her subsequent behaviour and found it odd that she did not try to get away on several occasions that she could have. I know the explanation was, "well she was only 14 and was afraid of this guy, he brainwashed her, etc.". Maybe so, but I have kids, girls, who were 14 or thereabouts at the time and they told me they would try to get away and would not be brainwashed. I know we are talking about a real person, who is trying to go on with her life, so I don't know how important it is to bring this up again...but I will always feel there was something else amiss in this young person's life that may have led to her unwillingness to escape. But it is just conjecture.

what?

so he abducted and raped an innocent girl daily for 9 months, undoubtedly guilty, but the law is still deciding whether to prosecute him? he is dangerous and the law should isolate him to prevent future crimes. incompetence should be out of the question!

SimonSays

To: "More to the story." Are you for real? Do you have no understanding of psychology and of how victims are "brainwashed", afraid, petrified, should I go on? I am so impressed with your daughters. They seem to have as much common sense and compassion as you. It is easy to make comments when it is someone else's ordeal. Rather keep your stupid comments to yourself, and we will all pray that something like this never happens to your family. You are right that something is amiss - that something is that this freak is not locked up in prison for the rest of his miserable life already.

@ More to the story.
Wow, you don't know anything about The Stockholm Syndrome. Here you go, chew on this:
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in abducted hostages, in which the hostage shows signs of loyalty to the hostage-taker, regardless of the danger or risk in which they have been placed.
Until your daughters are in the same situation, there is now possible way to predict their actions.
Elizabeth Smart was/is completely a victim of this maniac's crimes.

Re: More to the story

Are you kidding me??

Hang for This ?

I did not know we had the death penalty for kidnapping and rape.

redessa

More to the story, it's very easy to talk big and say how much you'd fight and not let yourself get brainwashed when you're sitting the comfort of your own living room. Even adults sucumb to Stockholm syndrome. There's no way you can expect that a 14 yr old girl is somehow immune to this condition.

Cosmo

The pig abducted a 14 year old girl, raped her, multiple times, shackled her multiple times, I think one could call that slavery. So let's quit playing games, and hang this subhuman! I want to see and hear him sing while he drops at the end of a rope, maybe he can hit a high note, for a change.

Swine

Polygamy + Le Baron + Mitchell = PERVERTS!

Re: More to the story

It's obvious that "More to the story" is one who believes the ugly rumors that have circulated about incest, pregnancy and a secret baby.

But that sick scenario is illogical, AND usually proferred by men who have a sexual fixation.

Drop it, "More". Get help.

Mitchell working the system

I believe Mitchell knows what he is doing, and I believe the appropriate sentence would be to put him in a place where he too can be raped daily for the next 20+ years minimum.

Robert

Elizabeth was taken at knifepoint from her bedroom by a stranger in the middle of the night.
She was shackled, imprisoned, and threatened.
Threats were made against her family.
She had to endure privation: lack of shelter, food and clothing.
She was raped daily, up to 3 or 4 times.
She was forced to view pornography.
She was forced to drink alcohol.
She was 14 years old, and you think there is more to the story?
Elizabeth was a victim of an evil and brutal man.

rattler

@ More to the Story - again.

You're asking why she didn't leave him and Brian David Mitchell is asking the same thing. Does that mean you think the same way as he does? He says he's innocent, do you think he is?

Ernest T. Bass

I don't know how you can realistically compare the two. Mitchell's beard is way cooler.

BobP

No death penalty for rape? More the pity. But then a term in general population with Bubba and his friends might come close.
