Wow

Um, so what.

Cougar JOE

That seems fair to me, they beat Lousville and we only beat Weber St. It's a long season, and we will get our shot at the rebels and the top 25 rankings.

Whatever

Polls mean even less in Basketball then they do in Football. When all is said and done, both BYU and UNLV will lose early in the NCAA tournament, BYU for sure in the first round.

Rebels

Typical Y fans, the polls only mean something when the Y is ranked, when their not, the polls are biased and irrelivent.

Good

As long as UNLV is ranked when they play BYU, then BYU gets the chance to pull the upset and is guaranteed a spot in the top 25 as long as they keep winning. But BYU will probably be ranked after this week if they beat USU in Logan, or at the latest after next week when they face ASU.

Desert Coug

How can the polls mean anything at this point if the season?

It will matter toward the end of February

Go Cougs!

RE: Rebels

Who cares who is ranked at this point in the season. I'm glad UNLV is ranked, and am not suprised that BYU isn't since they haven't played any good teams yet, and won't play any elite teams at all. Polls in basketball are so fluid that they mean very little. The fact that 65 teams will be invited to the NCAA tournament makes a top 25 poll even less meaningful. All that BYU (and UNLV)has to do is win. Whether they are or are not ranked will not help them to win any games, and it's not essential to get an invitation to the NCAA tournament.

Looking

I keep looking for the National Power on the hill that is the mighty u in any of the polls. I keep looking and looking but they are no where in sight??? I thought their win over Idaho would have them ranked for sure? I guess after lossing in the first round of the NCAA tournement last year they have dediced to go back to the CBI tournment so they can get a win.

UNLV has a good team and deserves their ranking after beating the Cardinals.

It Matters

Exposure is the name of the game my friends. I wish the Cougars were ranked. ESPN regularly shows highlights of top 25 teams. Having that number by your team get your Brand out there....for potential future recruits, selection committee members, etc. Whether we like it or not, its certainly helps to be ranked. You're right in that winning is the ultimate goal, but to say that being ranked is insignificant is wrong. The more MWC teams that are ranked, the more respect that the conference will receive. I'd like to see this league be in a position to regularly field at least three teams in the NCAAs every year.

My question is, how did Bradley get ranked ahead of us when they have 2 loses and we beat them!!??

Top teams rising to the top

Impressive! Good for UNLV. Quality wins should get you ranked. New Mexico and BYU have done all that's been asked of them by rocking their schedules though, too. Even Utah is starting to come around. I didn't realize they came back to beat Illinois. Wow! I'm all about conference teams doing well right now. It could be a tough conference after all. Keep beating those non-conference foes everyone.

Another Cougar MWC title will be that much more impressive then. NCAA tournament wins will follow. Glad my Cougars have arguably the most depth of the other MWC talented teams already mentioned. I think depth through a long season will have the Cougars rising above everyone else.

RebelDPT

You do realize UNLV plays 11 players I doubt the Cougars are that deep.

Tom

RebelDPT nailed it. I've watched both the Cougars and the Rebels several times this year. While the Cougars front court depth is impressive, the overall depth of the Rebels this year puts BYU's bench to shame. They play seven guards, six of which are good enough to be starters on most of the other teams in the conference. Their depth is the number one reason they are now 6-0 and ranked.
