Eager has already showed the type of deception that I detest in politicians. Don't claim the media dubbed you as Utah's Palin when it was a couple of bloggers. And don't mislead people with a deceptive press release that is actually announcing that you'll be doing nothing more than waiting in line at a book signing. I was once approached by a campaign worker for a Democratic gubernatorial candidate about endorsing the man. As the head of a non-profit group, I declined, but did say that I did agree with one plank of his platform though I disagreed with almost all other planks. He then listed me in the newspaper as a supporter of the candidate. When that campaign worker later ran for governor, I let people know what he did. He was soundly defeated.

Does this woman have any sense of the truth? At least we know she would make a good "politician"

re: Chaffetz

Chaffetz has been very careful not to endorse anyone for the US Senate race, including posting on Twitter months ago when one of Shurtleff's supporters said Chaffetz was endorsing Eagar.

Can't Eagar endorse what Palin is doing?

Joe

Eager is a great lady no doubt, but she needs to fire her entire campaign team and start new. She is either getting horrible advice or she is making bad decisions herself. She has tried to hitch her wagon to everyone, everything, and every anything that she thinks will help her a long the way. She is far too gimicky. At one time or another she has implied the endorsement of Jason Chaffetz, Sarah Palin, The Patrick henry caucus, Glenn Beck and many others, none of whom have endorsed her. She also allowed a very distasteful email go out about Mark Shurtleff, after he dropped out of the race. She is a mess right now.

re: Focus

The truth of the matter is that there have been not only these 2 media articles that have compared Eagar to Palin, but also many of her supporters (which are many) feel that there is a valid comparison.
If you want to take pot shots at Eagar, I'd suggest you get to know her first and attend her rallies. Once you hear what she has to say and her principles (yes she is the one and only principled candidate) you will see that she's not your ordinary politician . . . Hey, that kind of is like Sarah Palin. Maybe she is Utah's Sarah Palin. I'd like to think so.

@Joe

Eagar sent out the typical

"I have put a call into Mr. Shurtleff to express my best wishes to him and his family and am awaiting his reply. I have complete respect for Mr. Shurtleff’s decision and for the fact that he got in early, so that the voters could get to know him."

The rest of the message was targeting a few others that would jump in to the race late.

Could she have put the two in different releases, perhaps, but there was no swipe aimed at Shurtleff.

@Rich

"Don't claim the media dubbed you as Utah's Palin when it was a couple of bloggers"

Glen Warhol, who is one of SL. Tribune's bloggers certainly counts as local media, as does Utah County's Joe Pyrah, who also is a reporter who writes for the Daily Herald, THE news paper in Utah County.

All Eagar said was"

This is a great opportunity to meet Sarah and, if you feel inclined, let her know about what we’re doing in this campaign. (You may recall that a member of our local media dubbed me "Utah’s Sarah Palin.") We hope to see everyone there!

What is wrong with that?

I agree with the statement above:
Can't Eagar endorse what Palin is doing?

@Joe

Opponents and their supporters can criticize me all they want. That’s to be expected and part of any campaign.

But when it comes to my campaign team, I will stand up for them any day. We haven’t lost a single team member since we started, to my knowledge. I’d say that’s a remarkable track record for campaigns. They are enthusiastic, honest, hard-working and passionate.

I just want to take this opportunity to tell them all how grateful I am for their dedication in supporting this great cause to replace back room deals and pork spending with constitutional principles in government.

I'm also grateful to our consultants who have had decades of experience, beginning with Ronald Reagan. I trust them implicitly. They were also among Enid Greene’s consultants, and last year won 59 of 61 races.

We're moving forward and hope you will join us at the Palin book signing.

Cherilyn Eagar
U.S. Senate 2010

Same thing

So, does every republican who calls themselves a Regan Republican have the endorsement of Ronald Regan? Obviously not. Someone is making more of this than is really there.

Why?

Why would anyone want to be compared to Palin. Isn't that like being compared to the dullest knife in the drawer?

Joe Wiliams

Oh, Lee, give it a rest. I've been watching this race very closely because I want Bennett out. Cheryl Eagar never did anything to imply an endorsement by anybody. She doesn't have to, she's already got the best endorsement of any challenger (Like Phyllis Schlafly/Eagle Forum, remember?). What has Williams got? What has Lampropolus got? What has Bridgewater got? Don't be jealous, Lee, Eagar will represent you even if you don't vote for her.

Eager for endorsements

She also paid Joe the Plumber to come to Utah and stump for her. I guess she has to pay people to support her campaign.

Please, people

Can we find someone to be a senator who didn't move here from somewhere else? Granted, our own legislature has few members to crow about, but, really, isn't there a homegrown Utahn who could be a good representative in Washington?

If Eagar wants to compare herself to Palin -- that automatically gets a no vote from me.

@Please

Utahn?

Eagar has been in Salt Lake or Utah Co for a total of, like decades. How long does someone have to be here to live here? Her family /brother is here and has been for, like forever. (OK, not as long as that, but close).

Great bunch of folks. Hey, even Eagar's husband is cool.

Palin over Huckabee

I would take Palin over Huckabee or our current President.

I wish Congresman Jason Chaffetz would run for US President for 2012 and make the voting easy. He is my choice.

Anonymous

Technically, Warchol and Pyrah are Utah media, but since only ten people read Pyrah's blog and only four people read Warchol's blog, they really don't count.

Chaffetz?

What has Chaffetz got to do with this? Please take your Chaffetz worship somewhere else. I like the guy well enough, but some of you are too transparent with your praise and adoration for him with every comment you can make. You certainly cannot be serious about him running for president, but just want to make sure everyone THINKS he has supporters at all levels build the APPEARANCE of overwhelming support. You're making me sick of him. JUST BE REAL!

Oh Please!

Eagar is all about herself! One look at her "Beauty" t-shirt that was paraded around at the state convention this year would tell you that. And her original comment about Shurtleff's withdrawal was uncalled for. She's tried to attach herself to anyone or any cause she thinks will generate a delegate vote or provide a photo op. There are MUCH better choices for Senate than Eagar! Let's hope this time "The Beast" kicks "Beauty" to the curb!

name dropper

I attended one of her dull rallies and left as soon as she started name-dropping. It was very funny to see her post in this comment section where she dropped two names in less than 200 words! She reminds me of the state dinner party crashers.

Why is it

In politics, stupid people rely on talking about "principles" without knowing how those principles apply to policy. Eagar is a policy neophyte, and would be an embarassment to Utah.

I look forward to someone snapping a photo of her camping out in a tent to see Sarah Palin.
