For what it's worth, I think Corroon would make an outstanding governor of this state based on his running of Salt Lake County (fiscally conservative, RSL stadium fight, etc).
I think it would be interesting to see if He could pull it out. Personally i view Corroon as an independent. He has constantly shown me that he does what's good for the county above whats good for his party and more importantly himself. He is a true civil servant and I would be glad to cast my vote for him depending on who he was running against
This is the same guy who said the County would discuss whether a school district should be allowed to vote and split. He, nor his county, have any choice as to who becomes the Superintended, they have no choice as to the curriculum, nor do they have any input as to who is hired in the district, but he somehow seems to think he and the County Board should have an input into that issue. He does not understand his only input would be as a private citizen who lived in that district. NOt a man I would envision as a Governor, overstepping his authority and trying to become invovled in something he is not authorized to decide.
The First few Decisions Herbert made, and things he said proved he was not the man for the Job.
Utahns do need Health Care in Utah. He runs true to the Republicans doing nothing for the Citizens in Utah. Bold Negitive Decisions.
Corroon is a decent common sense politician... however this poll will really make Matheson really mad! He wants to be governor sooo bad.
Corroon has the courage to raise our taxes. We need massive tax increases. California has high income taxes on the rich businesses and it hasn't hurt them at all. Higher taxes = more prosperity.
The biggest threat to Corroon NOT being governor is not our marginally known republican imcumbent, but instead the straight-party ballot option.
But at least he doesn't have to endure the other biggest threat to decent, reasonable candidates: the republican nominating convention.
Sign me up as a disgusted Repub for Carroon in 2010!
Corroon has my vote
Corroon will NEVER get my vote again.
As for Health Care in Utah, enough of the free government handouts. Try getting a job and paying for it your self. Less government, more freedom.
I live in Salt Lake County, we DON"T want coroon as Gov, we just got ride of a liberal Gov.
coroon has never seen a tax he doesn't love!
No, No, No
I hope your comment was a sarcastic joke. If not that's got to be the most ignorant(uninformed)comment I think I have ever heard so far!
You have got to be kidding that higher taxes = more prosperity? What planet have you been on? Do you know the issues in California? That State is broken and it can not be fixed. Business are leaving every day and taking jobs with them.
Am I the only person that thinks those numbers look all BUT encouraging for Caroon? What makes him think he can all of a sudden make up 25 percentage points? In Utah? Not going to happen. Herbert's doing a fine job and if in fact he can balance the budget without raising taxes, Demos can forget about it. Heck, they can forget about it anyway.
The only problem with Corroon's fight against Real Salt Lake is that he turned out to be wrong. He did the politically expedient thing and latched on to the emotions of the majority, but history now shows us that Huntsman was right: The team is doing well financially and the county is making a fortune on the lease and the sales tax increases.
Corroon is good at working the publicity machine but it doesn't change the fact that his decisions are almost always wrong.
I'm voting for Herbert.
"Corroon has the courage to raise our taxes. We need massive tax increases. California has high income taxes on the rich businesses and it hasn't hurt them at all. Higher taxes = more prosperity."
Haven't you read any news? California is BANKRUPT!
What is not noted in the article is that there is a normal base of 30% to 33% who will not support any incumbent. In most political races a percentage above 55% is considered a mandate (Herbert shows 56%). For a person with very limited public exposure who is having to follow one of the most popular governors in Utah history to show 56% support is quite remarkable.
Right now I am leaning towards Herbert, but I must admit I like Corroon too. He is sort of a Matheson style of Democrat and I like that. He is very respectful from what I have seen. I will have to study his positions a bit more since he is basically a Salt Lake County politician but I haven't read anything terrible about him so thats kewl. 2010 will be a big year, but I think the public will be leaning Republican so time will only tell. Hey if a Republican can win in New Jersey I guess a Democrat can win in Utah, right?
Maybe I'm confused just a little, but 32 FOR and over 50% AGAINST? That doesn't sound viable to me. But then again, who can trust numbers these days given the new information about ClimateGate.
I suspect that at least half of those who mentioned support for Herbert didn't even realize that the interviewer didn't say "Huntsman."
Corroon's a Democrat. Most of the state votes Republican.
Corroon's in Salt Lake County. Most in the state have reservations about Salt Lake County politicians.
Corroon just recommended a tax increase in Salt Lake County. I doubt most Utahns would favor increased taxes.
That may not be three strikes, but it's pretty darn close.
