We Are Glad

We are glad he's gone and can't wait for Mr. Heaps arrival.

byu

At least he doesn't act like a baboon or a drunk gorilla and throw crap, and do nasty things to others and especially family members of others. There are stupid fans on both sides for sure like in every team. but the utes outnumber BYU's stupid fans 5 to 1. He's not classless for those remarks. He's a human being and did not like all the crap that happenened to his family by dirty ute fans and was vocal about his dislike for them, and he's the classless one? That's backwards.

I believe fans are living their lives through their favorite teams. It's athletics and all fan and athletes should be good sports and enjoy the game. Cheer for your team and put your heart into it. But once the game is over, have respect for everyone and treat them the way you would want to be treated. We are all children of God.

My Thoughts

I was at the game in Provo on Saturday night. It is sad that Max Hall's comments put focus on the part of the rivalry that crosses the line. I was sitting right next to UTE fans and we all appreciated the game. Personally, I just enjoy watching exciting football. I'm a big BYU fan, but I went to the Fiesta bowl a few years back between UT and Pitt because I know that having a team in the conference in a BCS game helps us move closer to a playoff system or something more fair. I don't think Max should have made the blanket statement that he did and I'm sure he wasn't happy about what he said. I think his apology was fine. He said that his comments about being classless were really directed to the few fans at RES that obviously need to grow up. Isn't that implying that he was wrong? Why does he have to say the words "I was wrong?" Aren't you smart enough to know that is what he meant. Let's enjoy the games and keep the rivalry the way it should be.

Thanks Max, for defending your family and religion from the modern-day mob.

And for beating the Ute football team...again.

Beautiful!!!

Max Hall was just caught up in the moment. Give him a dang break. You should all stop crying about how he offended you. (wah wah... get over it)

Jerry

Where in all of this is Utah's apology for the behaviour of their fans for the many acts perpatrated on Max and his family? This goes both ways and Utah fan action was just sick with the doll incident, beer thrown, and who knows just what all was said. Let's take a look at why this all happened to begin with over a football game...

Earl

Let he who is perfect be the first to judge another. We need to remember it is a game and nothing more. Live and let live. I don't blame Max for his feelings, I'd feel the same way. Now Ute fans want to continue the bad feelings. How sad that some people feel the need to bully others who don't agree with their view. There are more important things to concentrate your energy on. Please move on and realize we all have faults and have made mistakes. Learn to LOVE and not hate.

Clarification for "No Excuse"

You're right that his apology was a weak one, but you're absolutely wrong when you say Hall was "representing the church." This was an official statement made by a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He's some punk kid who can throw a ball, not an appointed, sustained Church representative. He is only as much of a representative as any other member of the LDS faith.

He made a dumb comment while he was very emotional and he did what most college-aged FOOTBALL PLAYERS would do -- he ran his mouth and took it too far. An apology was more than necessary on his part and he dropped the ball on that one, but let's keep this in perspective, he's not a professional diplomat, he's not an Apostle, he's SOME KID who can throw a ball.

Making a big deal of this just feeds his self-righteous nature by giving him more credit than he deserves and that's the last thing he needs.

Amen, Max. I saw the real "class" in the Yewtah football program when their coach called for an onsides kick when they were 40+ points up on Wyoming a couple of years ago. I have also been in RES when dopey Utah fans were extremely abusive to visiting fans--and they weren't from BYU!

Jerry

To all BYU,and Ute fans. To witness the horrible actions that take place by a few of our fans and not do anything about it you are just as guilty as they are!!!

matt

seriously have none of you been a part of or heard about any other rivalry?? even in high school rivals hate each other. in any other rivalry in the nation a comment would be the least of anyone's worries. no one was hurt and no one got in a fight. and to all you who are offended because he's mormon it's not like he's a GA saying that. he's a football player. sure he goes to a mormon school but he doesn't talk for the church.

I Wish

I kind of wish he hadn't apologized.

Intelligent people knew exactly what Max meant the second it left his lips, ie, we knew he didn't really mean "all" fans or "all" of the UofU. He was just caught up in the moment.

His apology seems to me to be a little like lowering the bar to satisfy idiots.

COACH WHITTINGHAM WILL NOT ACCEPT THE APOLOGY BECAUSE IF HE DID HE WOULD HAVE TO EXPLAIN WHY HIS PLAYERS HAVE NEVER HAD TO APOLOGIZE FOR SAYING THE SAME THINGS ABOUT BYU THAT MAX SAID ABOUT THE UTES.

MAX APOLOGIZED,BECAUSE IT WHAT THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

KYLE SHOULD ACCEPT THE APOLOGY AND HIS PLAYERS(AND EX PLAYERS) SHOULD APOLOGIZE BECAUSE IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

GO UTES! GO COUGARS! DITTO FOR THE HORNED FROGS, CADETS AND COWBOYS.

I'm embarrassed for the Utah fans if they are treating his family like this...this is really disgraceful...being assaulted and needing to call the police? This is awful.

John

Max Hall does not have to sink to the level of the Utes fans that abused his family - take the higher ground Max!!!

Max

Apology accepted.

Stop the Hate.

Go Utes!!!

Let down BYU Fan

After all of Max Hall's years at BYU; not as a football player, but as a student I expected more. BYU is better than Max Hall's comments, and a big win will now be remembered by the immiture and unacceptable comments by a BYU Student who should know better. Max not only let down the fan with his comments, he let down BYU. Thanks for a great game; but regardless of circumstances and personal feelings, remember who you represent when you put on that uniform, when you step foot on BYU's campus, and when you speak as a representitive for this university.

It's too bad that the rivalry of sporting events so often leads to immature and classless behavior. Why, exactly, do universities have sporting programs when they seem to encourage the very opposite characteristics in their students than those they are trying to instill?

Anonymous Bystander

I'd rather have a few classless fans than a classless Quarterback.

Instead of trying to justify your comments and convince us that we misunderstood you, maybe you should just admit that in the heat of the moment you got angry and said things that you shouldn't have said.

I would accept that as an apology, but this Press Release is just sad.
