relieved

Wow, when I read the headline I thought that there had been a runway collision. Relieved that there really was no runway collision.

HomeSafely

I was on the plane. We were definitely on the runway, ergo, it was a runway collision.

HomeSafely...

The accident happened on a taxiway, NOT a runway.

Bewildered.

How did 2 airplanes get on the runway at the same time? A new first in commercial aviation, formation takeoffs like the military aircraft fighters do. Sounds like an OR in a hospital, maximize use and speed things up.

This is why eyewitness testimony is not very accurate: One poster says they were on a runway, one says they were on a taxiway. Runway speeds would be a lot faster than taxiway speeds.

Nevertheless, very glad no one was injured!!

Push Back

Does anyone know how to read anymore? The article said that the SW Airline jet was being pushed back and collided with the FedEx jet. That is hardly anything more a careless ground crew at the SW gate.

Passenger

I was on the plane as well. No passengers were panicking. Most of us barely felt the jolt. The FedEx plane didn't even slow down or stop after the hit. Definitely glad it didn't happen mid-flight! Southwest handled the situation superbly. They held my connecting flight and I was only a half hour late to my final destination.

clarify

just to clarify, i work for other airline @ SLC for 25 years and saw this happen. it was not on a runway & sw did not push into fed ex. they were already disconnected from pushback waiting for fed ex to pass when fed ex wing went through sw winglet. who's fault ???

HomeSafely

Yes, on a taxiway...I had no idea there were different names for places planes could be on the tarmac once they were away from the gate. And yes, we were not just pushing back from the gate. We were perpendicular to the gate and waiting to take off.

Know your information before you report. Runways, taxiways, aprons, and non-movement areas are all different. This was not a runway event. Furthermore, did the passengers really evacuate? Were the slides blown? Was the emergency equipment called out? Very inaccurate reporting.

It was a loud bang and a pretty good sized jolt when our perfectly stopped plane was hit by Fed Ex. Southwest was wonderful...not so much Fed EX. It was a hit and run and I was not contacted by them in regards to how my family felt! Fed Ex messed up and they should apologize and take the high road since they could not do that while taxi-ing out to the runway!
