Yep

The oh so slow BYU defense is not as good as utah. Think again!

Fun game.

Speed Kills

Well, just like the Utes said, "speed kills" and it was fun to watch Andrew George race untouched into the end zone. Not a Ute on the field was fast enough to catch him.

This is Huge Improvement

BYU's D just beat a decent spread offense that is supposed to be faster than they are. If BYU has figured out how to play the spread they have taken a major step forward.

With a few key recruits the Y could have a great D next year.

The coaches actually coached instead of playing prevent. When BYU is aggressive they tend to play much better D.

re: speed kills

are you serious.? BYU db's got beat ALL DAY LONG by Utes receivers.. with what? oh speed... problem was Wynn couldn't throw it in the ocean.. Both teams were what we thought they were and played like avg. to good teams do. But dont talk trash, on a non factor in the play you are speaking of..

Deep Pass

BYU was awful lucky that Wynn overthrew a whole bunch of open and deep receivers.

Sportscenter Top Ten

Number 2 play on SC Top 10 baby! And the SC anchor called it "the holy war!"

FACT vs FICTION

FICTION: BYU shut out Utah's offense

FACT: I guess this reporter has not watched Utah's offense struggle all year. Well as I die hard Utah fan I have. Once again the play calling was horriable.

BYU deserves credit for the win but come on their no TCU.

RE Speek Kills

Speed Kills | 10:47 p.m. Nov. 28, 2009

Tell us how many times Wynne overthrew wide open receivers who were 5 yards ahead of BYU's secondary. If he connected on just one of those Hall wouldn't have thrown a sissy fit after the game.

BYU didn't play great defense Utah played sloppy, go look at the box score. 12 penalties for 113 yards.

Pittsburgh, Clemson, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech all ranked higher than BYU lost this weekend to unranked opponents. What are the odds that BYU, who just beat a very good and ranked opponent, will not move up more than one spot when the next polls come out? I think we are more likely to see Utah stay in the top 25 than we are to see BYU move up in the polls.

Enough already

Its good to have this game behind us. Utah fumbled the ball and BYU recovered it but the ref's missed it and the ute's went on to score a TD. It turned out not making any difference overall. I'm always glad when this stupid game of rivalry and emotions is over and things can get back to normal around here. Best of luck to both teams in their bowl games but mostly, best of luck to TCU who can represent the conference as well as Utah did last year by a win.

Y Grad / Y Dad

Do any of my fellow BYU fans sense a little peevishnes from Coach Mendenhall about our own bad attitudes toward our own players and team.

I worry less about how many BIG games we've won or lost (and by the way, Ute fans. We just beat a ranked team with a good won/loss record) and more about our own level of sportsmanship.

It's fine to have a rivalry, it reflects poorly to let that be an excuse for embarrasing behavior.

The real question is does Utah have the speed and intelligence to keep up with BYU! BYU has won 3 out of the last 4 games in this rivalry.

Gotta love these excuses by Ute fans. All this talk about "wynn overthrowing receivers" and "we really beat ourselves" is basically the same supposed arrogance Yewts accuse BYU fans of. You know, comments like "rather than giving the other team its due, you arrogant [Yewt/Coog] fans talk about yourselves." It's kind of funny to me how similar the reactions are.

As for BYU's defense, it was OUTSTANDING against Utah's run game. You can't make excuses about your freshman QB when BYU shut down your run game. Hall had one of the worst games of his career, but BYU won the battle in the trenches plain and simple.

That said, BYU's secondary was hit and miss all game long. When Wynn made good passes downfield BYU's secondary was able to make a play. When Utah's receivers broke loose, Wynn overthrew them. There were a lot of bad passes, but you have to give BYU's secondary some credit, especially on open field tackles where they were exceptional. On the balance it was a great outing for BYU's defense.

The reason Winn overthrew and missed so many receivers is because he was pressured and confused all night. You lousey yewt fans can talk until you're blue in the face (pun intended) and your team is as slow as you are in the brain. The yewts are not fast and your saying they are doesn't make iy so.

BYU D still stinks

Listen, BYU-D still stinks. If they were good the game would have never gone to over time and it would have been 20-9 final score. Instead the D let too many plays get behind them in the second half. First half they played great ball but second half was prevent this and prevent that. Fans just got a great win in a classic rivalry but again Bronco really needs to recruit speed or next year will be an entire different story.

Blah, blah, blah

"BYU got lucky" "Utah's receivers were always open"

Just as the Ute fans ignored the obvious lesson of the TCU game -- that their defense was full of holes -- they ignore the obvious lesson of last night's game: The Ute offense isn't that good at all.

The Utes had four, count 'em, FOUR, opportunities within the red zone where they had to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns. But even against BYU's supposedly sub-standard defense they couldn't get Eddie Wide into the end zone.

Oh, and by my count the Ute defense is losing seven starters this year, including both your starting defensive ends and cornerbacks, and your entire linebacking corps.

You'd better fix your offensive problems soon or next year is going to be a long one in SLC. And you won't have Max Hall to criticize anymore.

Dear re: Speed Kills

I guess the UTAH receivers just weren't fast enough to catch up to the ball after all. All I heard is they will blow past BYU secondary and score. The QB was rushed and harried just enough he was not on target all night and hurried his throws too much. Don't give me the coulda, woulda, shoulda, it just didn't happen.

Bob in line

And if we had 6'2" corners with 4.2/40 speed, yada, yada, yada.

Point is, the Us quarterback was unable to hit those wide open recievers. Few quarterbacks at any level are able to make accurate throws while under extreme pressure. The whole idea of pressuring the quarterback is to ultimately disrupt their ability to finish the play. It worked perfectly. And yes, BYU was lucky he didn't hit those wideopen receivers. And Utah is lucky BYU doesn't have faster players, etc.

The game was played, great defensive plays on both sides leading to sloppy offensive results. Final result is what counts. And that George guy just ran by my house, my neighbors dog giving chase....

Re: Sportscenter 12:34 am

Finally, BYU got some attention at a national level. They can't do it with their season, coach or even Halls classless comments. I guess you need to be thankful for any attention. Irrelevance is a tough pill to swallow.
