And then Max grossly dishonors the team and institution with his post-game comments. Hopefully the honor code will be in play, with Max being benched and Riley covering at QB. (Probably a good strategic move anyway!)
he was just telling everyone how classles the utes are. Some fans try to start fights and they throw beer on our fans all the time. I don't aggree with everything Hall said but some things were right on
What is wrong with his comments? Free speech and well deserved to be said especially from a guy who has played against these chumps for the last 3 years.
Fight on Max!
If anything utah need to control their dogs when entering the field. Actions speaks louder then word.
The BYU coaches were able to design a game plan around Max's amazing ability to choke in big games, however, they couldn't keep him from embarrassing the school after the game.
He leaves BYU with a horrible performance on and off the field. Good riddance.
Keep Hall away from Heaps.
They should go back to that color permanently. It suits them better, and plus they don't look like they're jealous of the colors of that "other team" up north...
People get on here to mouth off about Hall and complain about it, then why are you doing the same thing? Nice win and what a way to end it for those seniors in LES.
The Cougars honor the '84 champs, while Max Hall dishonors his team, university, faith, and family.
cougars baby!!!!!
--for winning 2 of 3 versus Utah
--for speaking the truth about the disgusting behavior of many Utah fans
--for 4th and 18
--for Hall to George
--for honoring the BYU tradition of excellence epitomized by the 1984 National Championship Team
--and most of all, for being the winningest QB in BYU history
Thanks Max!!!
btw, don't worry about the "dishonor" comments from the very obvious classless sore losers
Or do you mean Cougar baby? Max is a disgrace.
It was great to see the Cougars in Royal Blue to honor the 1984 team. I liked hall and the way he played today as well. He spoke from his heart after the game and I cannot blame him at all. The non BYU fans that dishonor the BYU team with all the hypocritic comments about Hall and his performance need serious help. These loser fans expect perfection for the team, each player and especially the QB and coaches. They are not perferct in their own live either. Hypocrites all.
Cougars won today with class and the game was a hard fought battle. Kudos to the Utes who played with heart as well.
Go Cougars. Keep the winning tradition and go bowling.
Pittsburgh, Clemson, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech all ranked higher than BYU lost this weekend to unranked opponents. What are the odds that BYU, who just beat a very good and ranked opponent, will not move up more than one spot when the next polls come out? I think we are more likely to see Utah stay in the top 25 than we are to see BYU move up in the polls.
utwingnut
Drop the act, buddy. We know you're a Ute.
I wonder if KW thought about coming out on the field during the presentation at half time? You know he did Ute fans.
Utah fans and players have spent the last 25 years denigrating BYU's championship, and yet Max Hall says a few intemperate words and suddenly the '84 team has been dishonored?
Do any of you people remember what you said even yesterday?
BYU - please keep your 'throwback' jerseys and stop wearing Aggie blue.
Hall's comments were right on. IF you don't like it, find another team. Way to go Max, couldn't have said it any better (but would love to try)!
"the Cougars, led by their coach, LaVell Edwards, won the national championship in the Holiday Bowl by defeating the University of Michigan, coached by Bo Schembechler, 24—17. It was the first – and only – time that the title was won at the Holiday Bowl, or any other December bowl game. Because of the WAC's contract with the Holiday Bowl,
BYU, #1 ranked and the only undefeated team in Division I-A going into that season's bowls, was obligated to play in the mid-tier Holiday Bowl against a mediocre (6—5) Michigan squad, a state of affairs that did not go unnoticed by the so-called major bowl games and the five (at the time) top-tier football-playing conferences. A series of bowl game structure changes over the next twenty years served to prevent a repeat of the 1984 Holiday Bowl scenario."
1984 NC has an asterisk attached. BYU beat a 6-5 mediocre Michigan team to win the NC. Today's equivalent would be like hypothetically BYU was undefeated last year instead of Utah. BYU plays a 7-5 Arizona team in the Vegas bowl due to MWC commitment's. BYU squeaks out a victory. Weeks later Florida beats Oklahoma in the BCS bowl game. When the AP rankings come out BYU is #1 and SEC power 12-1 Florida is #2.
It would never happen it was a fluke. Champions aren't crowned by beating mediocre teams in mid tier bowls. 1984 was a fluke
The AFCA National Championship Trophy (Coaches' Trophy) is the trophy awarded by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the winner of college football's BCS National Championship Game, which determines the national champion for purposes of the Coaches Poll. The trophy has been awarded since 1986 and has been tied to the winner of the BCS National Championship Game since 1998.
The trophy consists of a Waterford Crystal football affixed to an ebony base, and carries a value of over $30,000. The winning school retains permanent possession of the trophy, as a new one is awarded every year. The football portion of the trophy weighs approximately 8 pounds and together with the stand, it weights about 45 pounds and stands 34 inches tall. It is handmade by an artist in Ireland and takes nearly 3 months to complete.
The AFCA National Championship Trophy is now being awarded to every team that won a National Championship from 1950 to 1985.
The trophy for 1984 now sits proudly in BYU's Sports Hall of Fame.
BYU's 1984 national championship trophy is identical to Florida's 2008 national championship trophy.
A BCS win will never equal national championship!
