I'd like to think Utah should have a chance in this game, but after seeing Idaho and Southern smack the Utes in SLC, I'm not holding out much hope in Las Vegas against a much tougher opponent.
Is Utah getting better or worse under Boylen?
Utah is getting better recruits, but not being coached better at all. Boylen preaches defense and rebounding all fall practice, then they go out and get outrebounded and outscored by lesser teams like Idaho and Seattle (1st year back in college basketball). With Utes height and talent, they should outrebound every team they play. And they're not that young and inexperienced either. That's a lame excuse for poor coaching fundamentals.
I like the players he is getting in. The reality is that our 2 seniors are only average Boylen is trying to do it right but when your best players are a junior and 3 freshman you are going to struggle. Getting Watkins back should help... we will get better. Go Utes!!!!!
This Utah team is pathetic and Utah will finish sub .500 and have two blow-out losses to their big brother down south.two programs going in opposite directions.anyone in their right mind can see it.
Tested??? How about annihilated.
Once Jimmy Boy gets his recruits cycling through his system we will have a hard time keeping Jimmy...cool your jets and let him coach.
Yeah, Idaho and Seattle were only quizzes.
Boylen's defensive boys will keep this one close--and lose by 20 points.
You mean "Utah to get PASTED by Illinois"
Boylen and the rest of the Utes are still growing as a team. He is gradually recruiting the players he believes fits his profile and style of play. It is obvious the Utes are experiencing some growing pains with all of the new faces in an NBA type system Boylen has employed in his style of play. However, as conference play draws nearer, I believe the players will put it together and "trust" each other and compete on a much higher level. Tonights game against a top 25 team and the upcoming games will set the tone for success and a much improved product on the floor for the Utah faithfull. Tonight it begins, sit back and enjoy the ride.
How about swamped. You got beat by seattle u who hasn't been d1 and by the MIGHTY VANDALS. You couldn;t beat Payson on a good night! Sorry little league brother.
boilin. Best u coach ever. LET'S GIVE HIM A 10 YEAR DEAL!
We are still relying on Giac's recruits. Carlon Brown, David Foster, Kim Tillie, and Luca Drca all are Giac's players. After three years of Boylen, we are still starting Giac's kids. While the freshmen look talented at times, why on earth did we hire the rah rah assistant coach for Michigan State, he clearly has no idea how to run a division one program. Thank goodness Giac could recruit and we won a title with Giac's kids. Let Boylen go.....
I have two favorite local team moments in the NCAA tourney. Ainges drive, and When Pace Manion beat the illini, and on the drive after the cheap shot, scored on his guy, was fouled and patted him on the butt. (I still can't stand Pace).
I loved the Majerus years.
My point, I want Utah to be competative. I love BYU, but do not hate utah.
Boylen's teams are embarassing the U of U. I would rather see the MWC come down to BYU and Utah, rather than UNLV, or SDSU.
can we please get Boylen out of town ASAP, and get a coach.
Dr. Hill, it's your job, and you can't rest on your Majerus, Meyer, Whittingham laurels. Get the poser out and bring in a real coach. I'd like to look forward to both teams games.
I have know Marshall Henderson (G) since he was in elementary school. He and my son are friends. Watch this kid, as he is a great player and great kid from Hurst ,Texas
Just for those how thought the Utes would go down big - Utah 60 Illinois 58. Game over - UTES WIN!
Man, all you BYU fans were sure correct on that blowout you predicted. "Oh, wait... the Utes won? They won? How could that be? They are obviously the worst team on the planet! How could that be?" After those statements, the world subsequently ends for those BYU fans. Anyway, I am very proud of my Utes! Yes, the Seattle loss was horrible, but you have to be able to overcome, and they did. Kind of looks like they are showing up for only the big games. Hopefully that will change, because then it could be scary for the rest of the conference. This could possibly be a talented young team! I am ready for the next game! And for the more logical BYU fan earlier, there's some competitiveness for ya!
Go Utes!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
Nice trash talk. Utah by 2. There are no Cougar fans, only Utah haters.
and there are no ute fans, only bandwagon fans, nice try though

Then what are you doing here?
I think Boylen is doing just fine. He's got this young team headed in the right direction. Nice to see Utah is coming back around again.
