True Love

This is what the True Love of Christ is. Nothing more, nothing less. The greatest of all. Its too bad that e as a society can't learn to live like this on a constant basis. It isn't about money or material things. Its about the love and a few minutes of time.

This is an awesome story about people changing lives through just reaching out and being nice. I'm sure everyone involved has gained much. Great job Highland players and Oakley! Best of luck.

Great Thanksgiving

What a great way to start my Thanksgiving by reading a heart warming story like this. I really feel like this happens more often than we know. Thanks go to the Highland football players for letting your light shine and creating a loving atmosphere for Oakley. Great story.

IN A TIME WHEN WE HEAR SO MUCH ABOUT SELF INDULGEMENT,DRUGS, ETC THIS WAS A REALLY REFRESHING ARTICLE. TO THOSE YOUNG MEN WHO RESPONDED TO THE NEEDS OF A SPECIAL NEEDS BOY, GOES MY DEEPEST RESPECT. YOU MAY NOT HAVE WON THE STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP BUT YOU HAVE WON THE RESPECT OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO READ THIS ARTICLE WITH TEARS IN THEIR EYES AND GRATITUDE IN THEIR HEARTS FOR YOUNG MEN OF YOUR CALIBER. TO ME YOU ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS...GOD WILL BLESS YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS

Wow, what an amzing group of kids. Being a parent of a special needs kid myself, this really touch my heart. It is amazing how much just the smallest acts of kindness do for these kids. Oakley will never forget these kids and I hope they never lose touch with him. What an experience of a life time. Thank you to Highland High for setting an example that all schools should follow. Simply amazing, and best of luck Oakley, I am rooting for you!

Inspiring

Thanks, Highland guys and Oakley, for being such a great example and inspiration. My boys are healthy and strong with the promise of successful athletic careers. I'm going to share this story with them to help them remember what's most important. Happy Thanksgiving!

From Nebraska

These young men are a great example. I can only hope that other athletes and advantaged youth follow suit. Each school should have young men like these that seek out and protect those like Oakley.

Awesome story :) I love reading articles like this. In a world where the youth are often looked down upon its nice hearing good things about them. Way to go Highland High football boys and best of luck to Oakley:)

Wow, First time I've ever commented on an article. Best story of the entire football season. These young men missed out on a State Championship but they got something so much more. Yes, boys remember state champioships their whole lives but these young men will remember this for their whole lives and then some!!! Way to go!!!

Thank you for this fantastic article. Way to go to the Highland Football team. That is true character and class. I hope we can all learn from this. You don't have to be a 'captain of the football team' sort of person to reach out. We can all have the same impact by reaching out to those around us.

Go Rams!

Awesome

I could read storys about this all day tears of happiness and good feeling in your chest, thanks to the boys for being TRUE FRIENDS!

I met all these young men during the photo shoot and was simply amazed at the tenderness that they showed to Oakley. I don't know if they will ever truly understand what they have given to Oakley and his family. Thanks guys!

amazing

What an amazing story. I love to be reminded that there are great people out there--angels among us--Oakley and the team. I would love to see this story made into a movie. What a great group of boys. Oakley, you are an inspiration and your sweet mother is also an angel. Thank you for this story. Please, please find more of these and share them--it is exactly what we need.

that disabled neighbor taken to the Highland fundraiser was my dear step father, Walt Macey who just past away and who founded Macey's Grocery Stores. My mother loves these good neighbors the Hansens. They have been so good to Walt. Thanks for all you did for him!. Great story of love benefiting a family who gives love to others.

Oakley is an amazing kid. He was an inspiration to our family 9 years ago and gave us so much hope for our son who is now 10. He taught us that being happy is the most important thing of all. I am so glad these boys took the time to get to know him and really see him for the cool kid he is. He is the true definition of brave.

Great story about some amazing young men. This is not only a great reflection of their personal character, but that of their parents and also the Highland coaching staff. We live in a day that the only thing that seems to sell is controversy, and the only thing that I see written on these blogs are slanderous and disrespectful to the young men and their coaches, when in reality they are giving everything they have in order to be successful. I guess not all successes should be measured in wins and losses. So I commend the D-News for this article and commend all the positive comments that have been written. I am proud to be a high school football fan and appreciate these type of young men and these types of stories.Congrats Highland..

Highland Mom

Thank you so much for sharing this story. It is truly incredible and heart-warming. I have known some of these Highland boys for most of their young lives and have always been extremely proud of them on and off the field. But this story has made my heart swell beyond belief with the joy and love that Oakley and the boys have shared. Thank you all.

What REALLY matters

Thanks to the Highland boys. I get so tired of all of the stats and numbers of sometimes glory seeking athletes and parents that promote recognition for their sons. These my friends are truly MVP's as they have reached past themselves even in a loss to remember the important things in life. Thank you Oakley for receiving them and helping us all realize that we have many things to be grateful for. Thank you Highland boys for setting a standard that more players should reach for.

What ALSO matters

The boys had to be raised by great Parents and taught by great Leaders to be willing to put the important things first.
