Really hope we got a good amount of money for seitz.. It's likely he wouldn't have gotten much playing time anyway. But who is the backup now?
So far so good for us. If we can keep our team together including backups like Grabavoy, and Mathis I believe we will have enough depth to do some damage in both the MLS regular season and in the CCL.
NOOOOOO! Why are we doing this? Seitz is a few starts away from being the perfect GK. I am very dissapointed. Good for Chris but bad for RSL. We will curse this decision when he becomes a fantastic keeper.
Good luck Chris, I'm glad you'll finally have a shot at playing even if I am dissapointed it isn't for us.
I was happy to see that we didn't lose any players to the expansion draft this afternoon, but was disappointed to see that we had traded Seitz to Philadelphia. I wish Chris the best of luck in Philadelphia where he should have a good shot at the starting role, something he would not have with RSL for at least another year or two.
Seitz deserves the opportunity to be a starting GK and was going to ride the pine behind Rimando for years.
RSL got something for him in return and will hopefully get something very good as a result...like VanNisselroy.
We want him, I hear from a little bird he wants to make RSL his next team.
Good for Chris... he deserves to start in this league and is a solid keeper! I'll keep Rimando in the net thank you very much. I'm assuming Kyle Reynish will now be the backup! I'm glad Real got something in return for him. Wouldn't surprise me if Chris asked RSL before the draft to be left unprotected and give him a chance to play starter minutes! Lookin forward already to next year for RSL!!!
I would be beyond shocked if Ruud ended up in Salt Lake. He is almost as big a name as Beckham and would be an unbelievable striker in MLS. The guy does nothing but score goals.
Oh man. I always did feel bad for him not getting any playing time but I couldn't work it out in my mind to start him over Nick. It was a big shock to see the trade though. I wish Chris the best (except when he is playing our beloved RSL).
Why would a big name player like Ruud want to move out to a little town in the middle of no where? If he is coming to the states it will be in New York. They have an open DP slot, Red Bull has the money to pay him, and they have a new stadium to fill.
Checketts will ride this "the team is the star" idea as long as the fans keep filling Rio Tinto. My guess is that they won't seriously look at a DP for two or three more years when the newness of winning a championship wears off.
Article sais Abe Thompson joined the team. Welcome to Salt Lake Abe, your catching us at a good time.
Bad idea, Lagerway and Co! I realize Rimando is the definite starter for your team for as long as you can afford to keep him in Salt Lake, but dropping Seitz is a bad idea. Kyle Reynish is a mediocre backup keeper at best, and with the loss of Seitz, RSL seems to be shooting itself in the foot and asking for "Home Boy Nick" to get injured, like he did this year.
At least the deal allowed RSL to keep its entire midfield complete. The six guys in the middle + Robbie Findley may be able to make the loss of a U-21 star GK dampened with plenty o' goals.
I am cool with this because we keep the bulk of this squad and do not lose impact players.
Seitz deserves a chance, when Matt Reis left the Galaxy because of Kevin Hartman, look how his career panned out.
However, I am STUNNED Philadelphia selections. Outside of Moreno, I see little proven star guys, they are going to struggle much more than Seattle. Where is the goals coming from>
I am sure the organization will and should develop cople of young goalies with Nick time 2-3 years may wind down.
We can start to talk about 2010. We will need reinforcements and cannot afford to stand pat. Another striker to replace Yura, another midfielder with pace and can support strikers, and a quick, athletic back 4 member.
I say we still need 2-3 more good players to give us the best chance of repeat..
I love Ruud but "remember" age 34
Great moves today RSL. I like Seitz but with him graduating from Generation Adidas his salary was going to jump next season. Way too expensive as a back-up. I wish him well in Philadelphia and cant wait til next year starts. Go RSL!!!
Really sad to see Seitz go. He is a great keeper and I wish he could have stayed. And Dave Ckecketts, please please please do not bring Ruud van Nistelrooy!!!
Does anybody know what happened to Pablo Campos? He wasn't at the airport or any of the team rallies.
he was there you just have to look for him
If Ruud comes to RSL I'll be buying season tickets. The one thing RSL is missing is a finisher. Regardless of his age this guy is a finisher! I loved watching him at Man U.
I hope this is more than kandor.
I notice Pablo Campos wasn't at the State Capitol or Rio Tinto. I asked an RSL staffer where he was and apparently he couldn't change his airline ticket to go home to Brazil for the holidays so he had already left.
Chris has a terrible record with RSL. He may be a decent keeper in the kiddie league but he hasn't performed with us. I smell Adu on him. He was eating a larger piece of the salary pie every year. I saw the trade coming. We talked about it on the 12.5 hour drive home from Seattle. Chris will have to prove his is worth what he has been paid. My guess is he will choke. Rimando is the man. And to have not traded Chris would have been a slap in the face to Rimando. I think Chris was paid more than Rimando which is a major, major joke. Go RSL. Use that money to bring Robbie a playmate up top. Someone who understands what the term "on frame" means. Yura didn't get it.
Tough call by RSL. Rimando has been huge lately, with the CCL coming next year we needed a strong back-up keeper. It's good for Seitz. Consistent playing time will make him better. I see RSL regretting this decision in 3 years.
Glad to see the Union not select any RSL players, though!
Seitz was way, way overrated. He was too slow. This was a smart play by RSL.
Real shame to have to let Seitz go. He may well go on to be the next great keeper with Guzan. Rimando is good but Seitz can potentially be great. I hope this doesn't make Rimando get too comfortable and unchallenged like in DC years ago,
Good luck in Philly Chris!
