As an old parking enforcement officer, I will ask the question...
How do you know they are over the two hours limit? Are you chalking tires? Why the bag? Just stop ticketing.

Although, the bow is a nice touch.

A "beloved holiday tradition"? OK, that just scares me.

OR

Or you can go to almost anywhere else, park for free, and not have to worry.

WOW... 2 HOURS

Wow, you can park downtown free for 2 hours!!!

You better not stop for lunch or you'll get a ticket!

Why would anyone brave the stress and hurry-up feeling you get from the metter-maid gestapo to shop downtown???

You can park anywhere you want in Sandy as long as you want, and take your time shopping, have lunch, etc, (if you like that sort of holiday tradition).

Boy, I can't wait to drive downtown and get my TWO FREE HOURS of parking!

Really? "one of its most beloved holiday traditions"? Seriously? This is a business decision for the city, nothing else.

Don't be too critical of this idea. Two hours is two hours. I recently got a ticket in Los Angeles while I was seated in my vehicle, but I had just stopped in front of a painted blue curb. I was there for approximately 90 seconds. It cost me $325. Be grateful for what they are offering!

Also, the city is not trying to hide the fact that this is purely about bringing business to downtown and making profit. I dont see any problem with that.

In addition to my previous post -

I like the quote "one of its most beloved holiday traditions"

Forget the lights at Temple Square - free parking for two hours! yeah! The traditions live on!

Too late.

Downtown is no longer a shopping destination for Utah. The real shops are gone and parking is minimal at best as there is very limited public parking. Parking has been commercialized and taken over by companies with private lots so what is left for the shoppers? You can't even park at the court house or police department building or library without having to pay a meter, if you can find one to park at.

Downtown has a captive resource, tourist and office workers. Mention UTA or TRAX? Who can carry a hunderd pounds of shopping goodies on them?

Salt Lake City is in denial as a place to shop. Not even the new LDS complex will bring in shoppers and in a few years of frustration, it will go the way of all the other Malls and disappear. No parking and expensive paid parking lots and loss of streets has been their downfall. It is pretty though the last time I was there 4 years ago to visit the IRS.

11 Months

I won't come to SLC to shop even with a whole two hour of free parking. The eleven other months of the year convince me that SLC is not the place (to park).
