Make sure Nelson gets some playing time so he knows what it going to be like next year in SLC. And that should happen once the Cougs are up by 21 in the 3rd quarter. Then he can tack-on another 14 by running one in and passing the other in. It will be ugly for the Yewts.

Not gonna happen

BYU loses to the Utes, who do not pound inferior opponents, but will almost always find ways to win.

BYU is the glory-boy preppy types who beat up the timid freshmen, but run scared when a bigger kid comes up and smacks 'em in the mouth.

Utah more of a blue-collar type who pounds the ball. Doesn't result in as many gawdy scores as the Cougars, but more often ends in a win.

Nelson?

He already knows what it's going to be like. He'll be waiting to get into the game next year also. Jake Heaps is going to come in and take that starting QB spot next year. Jake is graduating early. He'll be enrolling at BYU in January and he'll be there for Spring drills. Heaps and Nelson will be the only two scholarship quarterbacks in spring drills next year.

Timid freshman

It's too bad that is how you view your quarterback.

Nelson will get time...

Mostly because Maxy has to face another Kruger! lol. Max will dig another pit so big for the cougars that Nelson will just get garbage time because the Cougars are getting crushed so bad...AGAIN! Seriously, the only team to win by more than a touchdown in this series this decade has been...UTAH! I'd actually be more worried if the cougars had Nelson starting. Having Hall start is like having that warm, tattered old blanked to fall asleep with. Just makes you feel safe knowin he's there.
Come on cougars, just admit it. Having the Hall starting a big game...there's that little thought in the back of your head. "Please Max, just this once!" And he might. But if I was a betting man I wouldn't bet on it. The best you can hope for out of Maxine is that he wont lose you the game. He really hasn't LED the team to a victory over anyone worth mentioning, and you know it's true. Just hope he doesn't pull a last year...but he will. It's true and we both know it...

Re: Timid Freshman

At least he won't be a stupid Junior. Has anyone played worse in the rivalry than Max Hall did last year?

krb

Go Coug's I'll be there at LES and I expect a great finsh from Max Pitta and Co.

Where can I get my hands on...

a classic BYU Growl Towel?

to: not gonna happen

"more wins" - how do you figure?

same number of wins this year

Bronco has one more win than Kyle

Edwards had far more wins than Utah coaches during same time

oh, maybe you are talking about the first 20 years of football.

to: timid freshman

that was the best comment i've read all week - too funny!

to: Nelson will get tme .. .

what about 4th and 18? I suppose that wasn't a big game? what about OU? What about Arizona? UCLA? TCU (2007)?

Max has had a great career. It isn't just up to him to win games. Max doesn't make me nervous. Defense makes me a little nervous, but the fact that our defense gives up about the same number of points on average than yours and our offense outscores yours on average gives me comfort. But, Utah is a good team that I respect and I realize the game could go either way.

I do not, however, respect you. Why don't you quit being such a goof ball? Too bad your identity in life revolves around Cougar failures. Pathetic

Mizzou Blue

Best of luck to the Cougars on Saturday. And to the seniors, thanks for restoring the Y to a respectable, competetive program. We'll be cheering for you in Missouri!!!

go cougs!!!! byu by 17

RE not gonna happen

and BYU ran scared of
Oklahoma
michegan
TCU
yes,TCU it dosent mean that if they lost they didn't fight

who did Utah run scared of? USU and Wyo.

Utah is the want-to-be glory boys (while BYU has in fact been-there-done-that)and the fans are ignorant too. The team is ok,I like wynn. But the fans give the team a bad name. We are here to support BYU what are here for? Try to turn everybody agaist BYU?

get a life

10 wins

is in the bag. All BYU has to do is beat a team that can't play run defense and has a frosh QB. Utah is so weak and vulnerable. Look at their game against SJSU.

Consistency

There's no deny that under Bronco, BYU has been very consistent in beating the tier-3 teams in MWC. Recently though, BYU has had troubles with tier-1 teams that prevent BYU from getting close to their BCS dream. 10-win season is not impressive when the final goal (BCS) is gone at mid-season.

Tier-1: Utah, TCU
Tier-2: AFA, BYU
Tier-3: CSU, UNM, UNLV, SDSU, Wyo

re: Nelson will get time

"He really hasn't LED the team to a victory over anyone worth mentioning"

So Utah is not worth mentioning? TCU is not worth mentioning? Oklahoma is not worth mentioning? I thought Air Force was pretty good this year but I guess their not worth mentioning either?

Max may just turn around and have a 5 TD no interception game against the Utes this year. Can anyone that comments on these boards read the future? I don't think so - especially Ute fans who all said, "we may not beat TCU but we'll cover the spread it's going to be close." We all know how that went.

As for ragging on how terrible he is doesn't that only make your Ute team last year look weaker than it is? By saying Max is no good you don't give the Utes defense much credit do you.

Truth is the Utes defense was really good last year. Much, much better than their defense this year. Also last year Max was one dimensional being locked on to Collie. This year he has so many more targets and he uses them.

Of course...

that's what BYU is focused on. As usual, BYU and their fans spend all spring/fall telling us how they are the BCS busters for 2009, and if they could pull the upset of OU, would be in line for the National Championship.

And as usual, they are now focused on trying to beat Utah to save their season.

Senior QB, tough games at home, still no BCS for BYU.

One thing's for sure, BYU has to have this game on Saturday. All the seniors they lose on offense and defense, combined with Utah starting a freshman QB, and if BYU doesn't win Saturday, it's going to be a long time before they get another win in the rivalry.

If Utah gets the win Saturday, that shows just how wide the talent gap has grown between these two programs.

re: 10 wins

Come on Cougar fans. At least have some trash talk that is factually correct. You make yourselves sound even dumber than we already know you are.

SJSU vs. Utah as you mentioned, has nothing to do with the points you contest as reasons BYU will win.

1)Jordan Wynn didn't play in that game. His first action was in game #8 against Wyoming.
2)SJSU rushed 22 times, for 22 total yards. For you mathematically challenged Cougar fans, that is 1.0 yards/carry.

Care to throw out any more gems Merlin!

NC Ute

I love rivalry week! So much fun. I can't get over how much fun it is to read these forums and sense how fired up people get. It should be a great game this weekend. I'll really enjoy singing the Utah fight song surrounded by zoobs. They hate it when that happens!
GO UTES!
