Comments about ‘Climate-change debate heats up’

This seems like a particularly bad time to be whipping up a frenzy for cap and tax.

Within days of the revelation that prominent global warming true believers cook the books because even THEY know that evidence for it is scanty and ambiguous, at best, they're still shrilly proclaiming the coming catastrophe.

Just to reiterate -- global warmers cannot document ANY warming or cooling, drying or wetting, sea level rise or fall, ice pack retreat or advance, or the occurrence of ANY other climatic phenomenon above levels expected and actually observed in the past.

You'd think that someone would point out to them that if the coming catastrophe is such a nuanced non-event that it must be hidden in modeling doublespeak -- it's not much of a catastrophe.

And it CERTAINLY warrants neither a restructuring of the global economy, nor the wholesale destruction of freedom.

Last week an apparent hacker obtained access to the computers of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU), affiliated to the University of East Anglia and published in the blogosphere part of their internal e-mail traffic. And the CRU has conceded that the at least some of the published e-mails are genuine.
Astonishingly, what appears, at least at first blush, to have emerged is that (a) the scientists have been manipulating the raw temperature figures to show a relentlessly rising global warming trend; (b) they have consistently refused outsiders access to the raw data; (c) the scientists have been trying to avoid freedom of information requests; and (d) they have been discussing ways to prevent papers by dissenting scientists being published in learned journals.

We have to get off this merry-go-round. We cannot afford to pay other countries for our CO2. We need to stand up and declare that gloval warming is not happening as born out by recent further analysis. The fact is that the earth was in a gradual warming mode ever since the ice age. Now, we are actually reversing direction and the earth has been cooling for many years now. Another fact: CO2 is what it takes for plants to grow and produce oxygen. more CO2 means more oxygen, so all will stay in balance. We start playing with these natural occurances and we may upset the balance of nature. Our earthly science is not perfect know.edge. Let's leave that to God.

“Levels of greenhouse gases, believed to be responsible for global warming, have been rising every year since detailed records started being kept in 1998”, the World Meteorological Organization said.

"For the past million years we've never seen 390. You have to wonder what that's going to do," said physicist John Barnes, director of the observatory atop Hawaii's Mauna Loa.

I don't have to wonder John. I am not a mathematician but, I’m pretty sure the difference between 1998 and 2009 is nowhere near a million years. So, where does this bozo Barnes get his information to make this statement? Was he here taking measurements "For the past million years"? No, he pulled his info out of thin air (pun intended).

Global Warming... What a crock! It's nothing more that a MAJOR scam for money and power. Al Gore himself uses many times more "carbon causing" energy than most folks. By the way, don't most plants & trees NEED AND CONSUME carbon dioxide to survive and flourish? He and his friends like Al Gore care nothing about the environment.

It's about the money.

CO2 is not a pollutant. It's contribution to warming is a drop in the bucket compared to water vapor. CO2 is NOT the main greenhouse gas. It is water vapor. Water vapor is 52 times more concentrated that CO2, and plays a much greater role in the weather, or climate. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere at 390 ppmv is nowhere near the concentrations it has been throughout history, much more recent that 1000000 years ago.

I challenge gp to produce any evidence that atmospheric CO2 concentrations were much larger than 390 ppmv at any time in recent history.

Climate Change and Global Warming are a farce!

It's a liberal/progressive agenda that's designed to control and tax us to death.

Anyone who still believes in it hasn't been reading the news reports over the past few days indicating that the data provided by climate change scientists has been falsified and altered for their political agenda.

It's being called CLIMATEGATE.

Wow after all the supporters of agw told us conservatives, republicans and any other opposed to gw policies, were nuts, who are the sheeple now. Falsified numbers and results, could it be any worse, follow the money. It's the money and power promoting climate change policies. Watch the changes now, they will create the next catastrophe on the horizon to scare the people. Mind you cleaning up polution is admirable, taxing non polutents like CO2 is criminal.

Just another, "the sky is falling' fairytale. People are so fickle and some will fall for anything. This is called 'crisis management', like the ring in the bull's nose. According to some of these 'prophet's of doom' we're suppose to already be under water on the coasts. They are no different than the religious fanatics that run around telling us the world is going to end on such and such a day. Because they are religious, the media ignores them, but when are secular 'prophet's of doom', they carry their gauntlet. As for the 'outed' scientists you need only 'follow the money'.

Most of the wild assertions I see among these comments are not easily testable. Once in a while though someone makes a claim that can be definitively tested.

For example, gp claimed that atmospheric CO2 has been well above 390 ppmv in recent history. I challenged him to document his claim, and haven't heard a peep from him since.

CB claims: "According to some of these 'prophet's of doom' we're suppose to already be under water on the coasts." Got any citations to back up that claim?

rvalens2 claims: "...the data provided by climate change scientists has been falsified and altered for their political agenda." Can you defend that claim?

The evidence that human beings are affecting the climate rests on a broad foundation of many different disciplines, and tens of thousands of scientists. The email stolen from the university in England is from the mailbox of one scientist (or so I understand). I have yet to see evidence that that any scientists referenced in those email messages falsified or altered data, let alone that the whole body of evidence is collapsing.

I challenge you to prove me wrong.
