I think RSL played this just right. I think they will not lose anyone. There are a lot of good young players left exposed by other teams. There is a longshot chance someone will take Russell or Campos, but not likely.

RSL needs to find someone to replace Movsysian. They will need added depth next year with the added Champions Leagues games.

good riddance

hopefully they take russell he is one of the laziest defenders i have ever seen. just watch the replay of the goal we gave up against the galaxy. Anybody can hit a pk.

I love all our players cmon we are champions..

Having said that I believe both will be taken by Philadelphia because they will need some solid vets especially off a cup winner.

I am sorry more to lose Ned but REAL had to keep its core.,the players protected they did

Hard to argue, I hope Ned stays

He is VERY UNDERRATED

Russell would be a very valuable player for philidelphia to pick up. He is solid and hes still got a few years left in the tank. He played out of his mind in the championship even without the pk. Having said that I think it was a good decision to protect beltran rather than russell. Beltran is up and coming, a young gun.

Russell

I like Russell, but your right, I saw that he trailed McGee (sp?) on the galaxy goal, and if he would have marked his man, it would not have been a goal.

But, I like him. I hope that if he is selected, we can work out a trade to get him back. Maybe trade them Seitz for Russell and some allocation money or other players depending on who they get.

I like Seitz, but he has got to play to get better, and no way is he passing up Rimando for the next few years.

With the exception of the match against Colubus in Columbus I think Russell played very well. and If he is picked up it will be a loss to RSL.
Agree replacing Yura may be tough but if Randers goes down we will have a decent chance of getting him back.
I do not see Campos going anywhere.

I really hope they don't take Russell. I think, given more time on the field, Russell could be huge. As it is, the only players at the top of their game are the 11 who start. Hopefully they bring back the reserve league next year so our other 13 guys can get some more action.

please don't take...

Alexandre or Cox. These two youngsters are athletes that I think have bright futures. Alexandre is a beast! Please please please take someone else.

REal can lose at most one of them according to the rules of the draft. Philadelphia is only allowed to take at most one player from each team.

Bi-Polar

Todd - RSL can only lose 1 player to Philly, after that, all remaining players are protected. That makes it more likely that RSL will lose at least one player (because other teams will only lose a max of 1). But it also means that RSL will only lose Campos, Russel, Ned, or Mathis (who really isn't that old).

Personally, I wish Wingert would have been left off the list in favor of Mathis or Russel. I like Wingert, but I think he's a bit over-rated and easily replaced.

Movsisyan

Real has maintained the rights to Yura in case he comes back. i think Yura has a clause in his contract with Randers that if they get relegated, he doesn't have to play for them. RIght now, Randers are at the bottom of the pack in their league (winless through 16 games). There's a good chance that Randers will be relegated and we'll see yura again in 2010. i hope Philly doesn't take him

So I looked at the list of available players and tried to come up with who I would draft if I were Philly and it is as follows:
From Colorado MEDHI BALLOUCHY (btw does anyone know if we could trade for him if Philly does take him?)
From FC Dallas DAVE VAN DEN BERGH
From Columbus Crew FREDDIE HEDJUK
From LA Galaxy ALAN GORDON
From San Jose Earthquakes BOBBY CONVEY (for obvious local tie reasons he is from Philly and he has played in the EPL it is a guarantee that they will take him)
From Houston Dynamo MIKE CHABALA
From Chicago Fire GONZALO SEGARES
From Kansas City Wizards KEVIN HARTMAN
From DC United LUCIANO EMILIO
From RSL ROBBIE RUSSELL

they would then have 3 defenders 4 mids 2 forwards and a GK. The average age of the 10 is 28. Only Hedjuk, VanDenBergh, and Hartman are older than 31. That would be a very good passing and scoring team. Their defending wouldn't be great but Hartman is good enough that if they found a diamond Defender they could do pretty well. Who would everyone else pick?

re: bi polar

wingert consistently outplayed russell especially in the final game. russell never marks up back post. yes he is decent going forward but is a snail tracking back.

For the most part I agree with their decision, but I feel bad for Seitz. He really needs to get some playing time, but how do you bench the MLS Cup MVP? I would like to hold onto him, but for his sake, he needs to go to a club where he can play.

I like Russell, but he has shown himself to be a bit too lackadaisical at times - on LA's goal in the MLS Cup match, on New York's goal in last year's conference final, on Columbus' second goal this year in the first round, etc. I feel they made the right decision on leaving him unprotected.

thanks fans for clearing it up-my opinion is Russell will be picked up for this reason:

Expansion teams always have to worry about back 4 first, and a starter of a title team is good experience for the younger guys. They will like Seattle focus on keeping score downs to compete try and come up with a lot of 0-0, 1-0, 1-1 type results. The focus will be defense.

I am thinking Wingert would be better but hard to fault the protected list. Alan Gordon i could see as being picked up as energetic and has improved his goal scoring. However, he cannot be a go to guy similar to Nick Bentdner for Arsenal. Although Gordon is older.

Seitz will get more chances next year now we will be involved in Central America-South America cup ties
he might divide time in those games with Rimando and or US OPen CUp

Man International Tournaments next year

SUPERB

lets not hop to conclusions here, they may very well take andy williams. back in 2006 toronto took jason kreis and we had to trade back for him.

they may pull the same trick and hold andy for ransom.

The question is, if you were RSL and they took williams, would you do anything to get him back? logically you'd say no, but remember he's a fan favorite, one of the last original RSL charter members, and played really well the last part of the season (coinciding with RSL's run of good form).

To Good Riddance

Anybody can hit a pk ??? Calling Landon Donovon....

Re Chadders

Honestly, I know nothing about the rest of the MLS. I consider myself to be a pretty big RSL fan, but it is next to impossible to follow the rest of MLS because I can never watch it or read it. How do you follow it better because I would love to ditch the NFL, NBA and MLB to follow MLS more fully.

For the love of all that is good soccer take Clint away from us!!!!! He cost us more games than all the other RSL players combined

andy...

I wouldn't take Andy. I love him, but he is getting to the point where he is a 60 minute player max. Same for Mathis. Russel is a high bet, but I could see them taking Campos. I hope they don't take Campos. He played well in the few games I saw and potentially could be a good sub in if Espindola ends up starting next to Findley.
