I really can't figure out what all the fuss is about. The books are so-so and the first movie was well enough crafted but hokey (like the book). I don't plan on seeing the second movie until it comes out on DVD. Somebody please try and explain all the fervor. What am I missing here?

You're a guy, nuff said! Get more in touch with your feminine side and you'll understand. Girls like romance!

For Fantasy Freaks Only!

Try some reality girls, maybe your life would change. Living in a fantasy world is just that.

I like fantasy novels as much as anyone and even being a guy a like a little romance, especially when the hero has to save his one true love. My favorite books are currently underway to be made a movie, some of it shot right here in Utah. “The Princess of Mars”
The thing I’m struggling with, with these books and movies besides the poor writing is that we are now taking correctors who have always been servants of Satan, evil. But now we are making them the good guys.
I know most of you are saying “Its just entertainment. Get over yourself.” But being a avid reader I know that what we read fantasy or other wise dose have an affect on what we think. So once again it concerns me that we are now “Calling good evil and evil good.” Just a thought…

it is hard to read the bad reviews when I love the books so much. They don't get the movies because they haven't read the books. We fell in love with the characters in the books and Rob and Kristen and Taylor have personified them. The emotional love and heartfelt sorrow is all there in New Moon. Thank you Kristen Rob and Taylor for bringing our visions to life.

The two guys who don't get it are like the Vatican coming out w/ their "don't see this".

The books are FICTION, valuable for the way they tell truth thru metaphors of fantasy.

Meyer has an odd brilliance for saying the same things over and over in a way that captivates young women, and is not boringly redundant to grown-ups.

Her way of telling truth (good vs. evil, personal identity struggles/development) is the main reason for the success of her books, altho many of her fans don't seem to get that.

The movie is wonderful!!Loved it! The guys reviewing it are so harsh ,they are arrogant, about their movies and this coming from their inspiration comic books! At least our books are 500 to 700 pages long. Kristen, Rob and Taylor have brought the books to life. Thanks to Chris Weitz for seeing our vision and caring enough to get it on screen.

What can we say, we love it. (We love reality, too.) Bella is overly victimized, but wait until The Host turns into a movie to see a truly buff heroine.

Of course the idea that every boy we know will be willing to die for us is fallacious. But why not give girls the idea that boys SHOULD treat them well - that is Mistress Meyers gift to the 21st century.

I freely admit that I adore the Twilight series and I'm 49 years old. As to John C.'s comments 'The thing I’m struggling with, with these books and movies besides the poor writing is that we are now taking correctors who have always been servants of Satan, evil. But now we are making them the good guys.' Can't we choose to love above our baser urges. That is one reason these books are so good. The main character and others have decided to not be evil. Anyway, vampires aren't real, so they can or cannot be evil. I just can't help it. I love the stuff. It's so nice to read a romance novel without the characters acting immorally. I can't find other books out there where I don't have to skipped 80 pages while the characters actions are described in disgusting detail. I've had to give up a lot of my favorite authors and series because of it. At least I can reread the Twilight books without having to feel like I walked through a garbage dump to get to the happy ending.

Double Standard

If this were 40-year-old guys going stark raving mad about a female vampire or werewolf who is in high school, we'd have every woman's organization up in arms over it.

So, in 5 yrs, will this series replace the Harelquin there by the checkout at the grocery stores?

To Matthew

Matthew, what you are missing is the ability to allow yourself to feel. You have to allow yourself to take the emotional ride these books and movies offer us but "if you have the emotional range of a tea spoon" (From Harry Potter), you cannot appreciate the story.
At least, that's what makes these books and movies so great for me. I enjoy the ride. Open up your heart and soul without shame and you will get the best experience these movies have to offer.

Not a Fan-LDS Girl

I recently saw the first Twilight movie. It was okay, but nothing special for sure. I am not worried about the morality because it was clean enough, but I do worry that it sets up unrealistic expectations for how love relationships should be. This can be dangerous to marriages and families. I love my husband, but after 10 years of marriage our relationship is deeply rooted in friendship and understanding not being irresistably attracted to eachother. There is a huge difference between love and infatuation and I think obsessing over books and movies like Twilight blurs and confuses that; and when you have ridiculous expectations your real relationships suffer.

To Clare

Did you scream as loud or louder than the teenaged girls on opening night when the teenage boys took off their shirts in this movie? Got to agree with DS on this one.

A Girl

This makes me embarrassed to be a girl.

Seriously, why do you all love living in fantasy romance land? If you spent half as much time being useful as you spend reading romance novels and seeing stupid movies like Twilight 3 times in one weekend, world hunger would be solved by now.

I prefer literature, thank you very much.

look on the bright side

Not to mention all the 40 yr old women who have pics of the 2 male stars adorning their cubicles.

If I had a photo of say Jessica Alba in my cubicle I'd suffer the same fate as Michael Palin in Life of Brian.

re: jacob fan

Girls like romance.
Like when a husband gets up 3:00 am to go to work, so that there will be food and shelter.
Like when a husband put up with a cranky pms woman.
How about when he wakes up and takes care of the baby so that she can sleep.
Why is it not romantic when a man gets married, and tries to be a good husband?
Its kind of hard to compete with fictional fantasy.

I like Clive Cussler novels, McConaughey's portrayal of Dirk Pitt, & Morgan Freen As Alex Cross (J Patterson Novels).

When the movie is over or the book finished, its back to reality.

If you are irrationally obsessed with anything; 2 words for ya..... seek help.

Wolf in sheeps clothing?

While Twilight has been fun for a lot of women out there, in observing my female students during the last few days since this movie released, and since the first one came out, I've never seen so many "stimulated" kids. While pornography for men is focused more on the physical stimulus, women are drawn in more by the emotional connection, and I don't think it's extreme to point out some of the connections w/ these books/movies.

And in regards to the physical, I find it interesting that women are permitted to scream, moan, sigh as Jacob graces the screen time & time again, but we would hold our husbands/boyfriends accountable if they were to do the same...I think a double standard indeed.

Twilight can be fun, but could it also be dangerous? Something to consider.
