blowing away mediocre teams at home I am not taking anything for granted. Every win has come with great effort. They should be killing some of these teams.
The Jazz do not have good answers for teams that zone or run 3 guard offenses. OKC can rebound. POR can rebound and has a 3 guard offense.
Okur may help on offense but CJ/Korver are needed to open up the inside. CJ is also needed for defense. Or Maynor and Mathews are going to have to have super nights.
The Jazz are a long ways from being a really strong team.
Sloan is worried about minutes. I am worried about him playing combos who actually play well. Forget the minutes. Some guys can sit a whole game and rest until they get a good match up.
Keep the ones who are playing well together playing and save some fire power for the next game.
What is wrong with just telling the team that you are going to play the best match ups and that everyone will get a shot when they match up?
I am sure there fragile egos can handle it.
Play the right combos forget the egos!
Tomic is developing well. I found it in The (Chuck Nunn) Oracle!
We may be OK if we lose a couple of bigs, with our young bigs still in tact.
wow!!! now that`s funny, when was the last time you saw miles play defense,I must`ve missed that game!!!!
are getting better. Fez is doing what he needs to now when he gets to play. He rebounds and plugs the middle. If it takes him 3 more years to develop an offense (more than dunking) he is still quite valuable and cheap. That is assuming the Jazz have enough outside shooting to offset the lack of offense from the C. Fez offers an alternative approach for the Jazz (Ostertag).
Koufos rebounds and plays defense. His offense needs work. He did not play much college and needs more time to develop. Mostly he needs playing time. He seems slow to get his shots off. That is probably fixable along with improving his moves.
Millsap is cross training at 3. That will improve his lateral movement and mid range shooting. He will be a much better more versatile player by the end of the year. He will have also figured out how to rebound from the 3 position.
I am not sure where Tomic fits in but it is nice to have another 7 footer in waiting.
In the long run Koufos/Tomic might play the 4 with Fez at 5 and Millsap at 3 (After Boozer/AK contracts).
The Sad truth is that Okur is going to take minutes from Fess and Millsap. This make the Jazz a worse defensive team. The quicker the Jazz can trade either Boozer or Okur the better the Jazz will be. Fess, Millsap and AK are all better defensive players than Boozer and Okur. When you allow both Boozer and Okur play at the same time you are allowing the other team
I am beginning to wonder if the re-signing of Memo was a huge mistake. Yes he can score from the outside but is that what this team needs from it's center? It seems we need a defender, not a 3 point specialist, in our center position.
And yes Houdini, we do need CJ for his defense.
When the Jazz have Korver to open up the inside and CJ to shoot/defend from the perimeter the Jazz can try to outscore opponents with Okur and Boozer. Right now they have to depend on Mathews/Maynor playing better than most rookies. So far they are doing pretty well.
Fez is most useful in certain situations/matchups. He allows the Jazz to revert to their old style of play when they had dominant Cs but that only works with some teams and works best when you have great outside shooters (assuming Fez kicks out).
The problem is still the outside shooting. AK, DWill, Mathews and Maynor have come thru just enough. Having Okur back helps.
The Jazz have depth. When Fez, Koufos, Price, Maynor and Mathews are supposed to be your worst players you are in good shape.
The biggest problems are defense and outside shooting. Sloan seems to be juggling combos. I hope he continues. In the past he was to captive to the Veterans. He needs to play more match ups and stop worrying so much about player egos.
The Market is bad. Non Team Players need to be replaced. Play the best match ups.
That is the first time in 3 years that Miles actually made sense. I agree about Memo and Booz= no D!
Quit all the hating on Okur :)
I can't believe there are people who think Fess should get minutes over Okur.
--------
I agree that the Jazz shouldn't have rushed to sign a bigger contract for Okur, but I also agree with Okur when he says he feels he is one of the best 10 centers in the league. Last year he shot 67% from behind the arc in February. No one in the history of the NBA has ever done that. Not Stockton, not Horny, not Reggie Miller.
I've enjoyed watching DWill and Boozer running the pick and roll in the final minutes of games... it has worked quit well. But you know what makes it even better? If Okur is on the wing to hit a three. Did you guys watch the 06-07 season? Okur hit a big shot in almost every single close game (And the Jazz won almost every single game that was within 3 points)
I still say to move Okur to the 4, Booz to the 3, and use the two big guys and there fouls. This makes the team longer. If there is any hope beating the Lakers (Bynum is on fire and Gasol is back) they will need to be longer.
Nevada fan sounds like he understands the game of basketball!
Did you know that stops are importaning in not letting the other team win?
we do need some defense from miles, problem is...he doesn`t know how to man-up,maybe a couple years down in d-leaque would help out...probably not
now that`s crazy, boozers not even quick enough to stay with most 4`s,and you want to have him guarding 3`s???? the 3 spot is a small forward, you know,Le Bron,Carmelo......
my most vivid image of miles is hanging out at 3 point line, waiting to jack-up another brick, has anyone honestly watched him play tough defense?
I don't think the matter is anyone hating on Okur. I sure don't. He's a heck of a guy and a heck of a player. Thing is, before he came to Utah, he was a power forward with the Pistons, and I think that's where he's most effective. I think what a lot of fans would like to see is more pairings of Boozer and Okur with Fesenko and Koufos. Sloan is trying to keep his best players on the floor, but, and I really do hate to question the HOF coach, is it always the best team on the floor?
Peace out from the Jazz Oracle!
Lots of times Houdini/ Commaman etc. etc.. Miles defended Kobe Bryant as good as anyone I've seen. Open your eyes, you might see something. Your obsession with bashing Miles has become insanity. Get help.
The problem is Houdini (comma man) that you don't even know the rules. CJ can not go to the dleague. Go back to your basement.
Chuck Nunn really said it......or posed the question...Are the best players (A, B, C, D & E) really the best team?
Do Steak, Lobster, Oyters, Crab and Lamb Chops really make the best sandwich?
I love Lobster and Oysters, but to make a good sandwich a little sliced beef with lettice and pickles do the trick.
Try a little Fess & Koufos with your Booz and your Brewer or even Money! You may find it works pretty well.
Okur is a outside scoring center who can not play defense. He is too slow and too white to block shots. We need a defender in the middle and with Boozer and he on the floor at the same time, the other team is licking their chops. Okur is fine against slow centers like Shaq and Yao.
