That was the most amazing drive and play I have ever seen in high school football- what a great finish to a championship game! Great job as well to Hurricane for one tough game. Congratulations to Juan Diego for a fantastic season- State Champs!!!
Austin Collie said about God blessing you when you're living right?
yes it was quite a game...considering the officials GAVE it to the tigers..all those penalties against the eagles....not one was called against hurricane...except for the false starts...big deal...we saw those from the stands...BUT...in the end the luckiest / BEST team won...what a throw..and what a CATCH...it ain't over... TILL IT'S OVER....CONGRATULATIONS JUAN DIEGO....
As bad as I feel for Hurricane, I applaud JD for the most exciting finish in UHSAA history. Great pass, great catch, great memory for all JD fans. To Hurricane...great season and hope to see you there again next year.
Why does the des news even post stupid comments like this?
It was without question the best championship game of the year. Both teams can stand tall.
Come on Phibbs!
Leave the religious writing out of it for goodness sakes! Write the article about the game and be more creative than the obvious. You're better than that. These are high schhol kids. Write the article with passion for what you do and not to mock a religion in the meantime.
great game W.D you had two on your home field, next year lets play at Dixie State. We love our tigers.
Amazingly wrote best article I have read on this story.
Great game JD I will never forget that. Can you believe it!
Pretty bad when you win and you still blame the refs. The calls they made were legit. Great game for both teams. Awesome game to watch.
How many candles will I have to light to ensure Hurricane can make a miraculous catch next year?
As a JD parent, I've attended both JD/Hurricane title games. The Hurricane players are the best competition we've faced. We've been fortunate to come away with a win each year as it could have gone either way. While we were ecstatic about the win, a lot of us felt terrible for the Hurricane players because they played such a great game. I know this is sappy, but it's one year UHSAA could have crowned two 3A state champions.
What in the world are you talking about? This was a great article with articulate descriptions about the plays. The ONE phrase you're referring to is a very common colloquialism so get a grip. This was a great article on a great game.
Great job tigers. Stand tall. YOu guys played an excellant game. Lets come back next year.
JD parent.
I wasn't able to attend the game because I've been away on business, but this article painted the picture. What a game! Being that I'm a past football player, it's nice to hear the football jargon and what type of formations and whatnot they were running.
Great job Juan Diego, what a way to win. I've been following the entire season, you earned it!My heart goes out to the Hurricane players, that must have been the worst bus drive of their lives. Keep your heads up, you played admirably, and don't let one play determine what you accomplished throughout the season. Use the heartbreak and join together in winning it next year. I'll certainly be cheering for you.
Also, PS. What are you talking about fan? It's a common phrase...it's not like he was bashing a religion. I think it's time you stop over analyzing situations and trying to start drama.
Thanks for the amazing prep coverage Deseret News. That's why you're the best paper in the state. Giving these kids the publication they deserve is awesome! Thank you.
All I can say is that I still can't believe that last play happened. I had to play it over in my mind at least five more times to confirm it. Amazing play, amazing season!
decent catch
Where did JD get that last time out from before the final play. Was my count and the scoreboard wrong or did they get a freebie in there.(not an excuse. Just wondering if I counted wrong)
Great game to both teams but holy cow that loss hurt my heart. Amazing catch and probably one of the best games in uhsaa history
What an awesome way to finish a game. They placed with a lot of heart, especially after the penalty that most teams would haved taken as time to head for the showers. Thank Trevor.
Saying that the loss hurt your heart is exactly how I felt. I respect JD a lot and was happy to see two teams playing a very high level of football. Congrats JD. Congrats Hurricane.
I'm glad to see we don't have a bunch of posts regarding recruiting, etc... It was two well matched teams and a fun game (except the TV time outs!)
We are all proud of our Hurricane boys and feel for them. I hope they feel a sense of accomplishment as they will take away a lot from this season. I'm especially proud of all the work my nephew (#54 - Jeff Staples) put in these past years and how well he's done on and off the field!!!
