I think you are spot on Harmon with BYU needing to pound it out on the ground which will open the running game. You missed the point about the Defense. BYU has been able to put the stop on AFA for the past 5 years and I see this game as no difference. I think your prediciton is score is too close, BYU 35 - AFA 10.
Go Cougars.
BYU can throw...interceptions vs Air Force.
AFA 28
BYU 21
Perhaps the fact Max struggles with good passing defenses is because the scheme employed by BYU in those games has been easy to stop? Max has his faults, and they are well known. But I think the coaching staff has not helped him with a great game plan in many of those tough games.
Pound the rock with the combo of Unga, Tonga, Karriya and JJ. Once their safeties start cheating up, then hit them with some play action passes to Jacobsen and Pitta.
Perhaps the reason Max struggles against good pass defenses is because he is a quarterback and tries to throw passes---against a good defense.
I suspect that running backs similarly "struggle" against good rushing defenses as well.
AFA 31, BYU 6. It won't ever be close, but the Cougars will fight hard and say something like "We beat ourselves."
Air Force's game plan is to take Max Hall and the pass game out of the equation. That was UNLV's game plan 2 years ago and Harvey Unga had the best game of his career. I like BYU's chances because of it. Air Force doesn't seem to be acknowledging BYU's running game or BYU's run defense. This bodes well for the Cougars.
BYU's rush defense is pretty strong, even better than it was last year. All our guys have to do is stay in gaps and contain the option and Air Force won't have a pass game significant enough to do a whole lot. Even Brandon Howard picked off an Air Force pass on the road last year. Guys like Bradley and Logan will contain the pass game fine, and Andrew Rich and Scott Johnson will do fantastic with run support
On offense, run the ball. If their plan is to stay spread out, Kariya and DiLuigi will have to play great games but we can establish the run with those two backs. The pass game will open up we just have to stay on the ground for a while.
BYU will lose another one at home ..AF 35 BYU 28. BYU is a lousy team that doesn't adjust to anything the opposing team does (as with FSU and TCU) so Air Force will pull this one out leading the entire game. This loss will set up the final blow out loss to Utah in a week. BYU is a terrible team and terrible program.
I stopped watching BYU after the second home blow out so ...who cares if they win or lose? BYU is sooooo overrated and and with 4 home losses this year people will finally understand that.
Air Force 35
BYU 21
For being a terrible program, Bronco still has one more win than Kyle...go figure.
...who would listen to or care about a comment like yours??? Your entire comment is a giveaway, especially your last sentence. Go out and rake the lawn like your wife has told you.
Here is another game that Max (where is the ball Hall) will not be effective. He should throw several picks and lose the ball at least twice. Max (where is the ball Hall) may be one the top QB's at BYU ever but he still can not win the big game. I hate to say it but BYU will lose this one. No BCS game or Conference championship this year for BYU and Max had a lot to do with that. At least next year Max will be down the road.
Utah struggled to pull out a win against Wyo. BYU rolled. Utes struggled against AFA. BYU will roll.
RE Silly Trolls. Great comment. Beat AF and if BYU beats Utah, Bronco will be 3-1 against Kyle. Wow! Too bad Utah is so lousy against BYU.
I wish all those BYU haters from the University of Utah would get a life, grow up and stop bashing BYU. I thought only adults attended college not children as most of you act like. I graduated from the "U" and watch BYU sports as well and root for the best team regardless.
We all live in Utah and should support all Utah sports regardless, that is true sportmanship, TRY applying it in your life.
At times I am embarrassed to be called Utah Fan.
GET A LIFE!
You cared about his comments enough to post at 1:01 AM when most normal people either sleeps or has...
So who is sillier? You or him?
BYU will be able to throw on Air Force.
Max will become the winningest QB in BYU history today with another 300+ yard, 2 or 3 TDs passing day.
Air Force is a good team, but BYU always seems to play well against the Falcons and today will be no exception.
It's going to be a fun day at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
give that Layton back the football and let him go to work. Then change the pace with Di Luigi. When AF starts to cheat up to stop the run, hit Jacobsen on the fly pattern and Chambers and Ashworth on a deep out or Pitta and Georg3e over the middle.
I would not want to be the AF defensive coordinator today. He has a near impossible task. The Coug's should continue their dominance of the Falcons today.
Dick,
Enough of the statistics. I suppose its an easy way to fill space. The bottom line is if BYU has a balanced offense they should be fine. If they get too dependent on either passing (most likely) or running at the expense of the other it will be close. I suspect that they will try to pass first, pass second, and perhaps run. It doesn't make sense to me but what do I know, you are the expert! Mendenhall just doesn't seem to make adjustments that reflect weakensses in his opponent. He is a creature of habit. It's time to shake things up a little. Even though he claims it's not important, Hall is aware of individual records and wants to have his name associated with some, but get the win first.
