It seems that one of the first actions a totalitarian extremist state takes is the oppression of its women. Although the Soviets prided themselves outwardly about sharing freedoms and priveledges, women had far from an equal place.

I think, left and right alike throughout America and the world should encourage the empowerment of women, especially in many Islamic countries, where women are seen as chattel.

We should give what we can, to provide schools and social aid in Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan for women to have the education and mobility they need to make a difference. Then, I'm sure, a revolution will come that could change the face of the middle east.

Sadly, it's not just in Muslim nations that it happens. Even in Israel, the news yesterday was that a woman was arrested for wearing a prayer shawl by the Western Wall.

At what cost?

How many billions of American dollars were spent to make this happen? Our economy sure could use that money.

I don't agree. Aside from the argument of women's rights, the question ought to be whether they are the most qualified defense force, and more importantly is it really the type of environment we want to cast those in whose motherly natures are the only powerful check and influence against the aggressive natures of men?

Men ought to be the protector of women while they nurture our children. Otherwise we will eventually raise a society that knows of nothing but war and bloodshed both men and women.
