Comparing these to Harry Potter movies is not fair or even in the same realm. Most people would agree the Potter movies were great despite critics whinings. However the Twilight movies are lacking in every way. Mildly entertaining number two was better than the first but still far to go. A little more time spent fighting might have been good for boys and dads but thats not who this movie was made for. Another 30 minutes digging deeper into the Italian vampire royalty would also held men's interest better but again it was not a movie intended for is. My wife and 3 college age daughters, my adult sisters and their friends are all going for the second viewing. It hit it's intended mark, 9-13 year old girls and their moms. In this regard it was what it was intended to be.

Hopefully this is not the intellectual pursuit mothers are teaching their daughters to appreciate. What a waste of knowledge. Just entertainment? Right. But a few will get wealthy by robbing your daughters of brain time which would be better spent reading great literature. I suggest those mothers who are promoting this silly bonding experience, go to the local library and search out some classics. Then have a lively discussion after reading a book with a real plot. Our country needs more education. Don't teach your girls to settle for this garbage. I hope this is not what the mothers are reading as well. Heaven help the day when a book like this makes it to the junior high level A R reading list and students are rewarded with reading points. Nothing earned...nothing gained.

Before writing the script for "Twilight", Melissa Rosenberg was involved with writing scripts for the cable series "Dexter", which chronicles the exploits of a CSI investigator who leads a double life as a serial killer. Rosenberg has gotten accolades for these "edgy" scripts, which is (probably) why she was hired to do these. The real problem with "Twilight" was actually that director Catherine Hardwicke just didn't do much to improve the acting abilities of most of the cast members. (Contrast Kirsten Stewart's role in "Twilight" with her role in "Zathura" and you'll see what I mean.) And it sounds like Chris Weitz seemed to follow Hardicke's lead.

In response to "save your garlic", there have been several books that are considered "great literature" that have bored me to death. I struggled through _The Grapes of Wrath_ and I couldn't get into _The Ox-Bow Incident_. While I love Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and _Oliver Twist_, I found _A Tale of Two Cities_ to be long and ponderous. I also prefer the writings of Alexander Dumas to those of his contemporary Victor Hugo. "Save your garlic" probably doesn't know this, but there is debate among what should be considered "great literature". Case in point: J.R.R. Tolkien's epic _The Lord of The Rings_ has only in the past decade been admitted in the ranks of "great literature" by close-minded academicians. Obivously, "save your garlic" didn't like the book (if s/he even tried to read it. So, what? Everybody has different tastes. Young men and women shouldn't be condemned for reading 500-page books. Who knows, maybe after reading "The Twilight Saga", these same individuals might discover Bram Stoker.

As long as the movies gain profit, the people in charge won't see a need to change anything.
