Is it me or has Tavenari not progressed since his Freshman year, seems like he has actually gotten worse as a shooter?
I'm not a fan, he takes to many "my turn" shots and doesn't make others on the team better.
I would be frustrated if I were one of Tavernari's teammates. He's going to cost us some games if he keeps hoisting up long-range misses when we have better shooters. JT is too streaky. I say coach Rose should let him take a maximum of 5 three point attempts in the first half. If he doesn't hit at least 2 of them then no more attempts for him that game. In fact any time he misses 5 in row then no more 3's for him that game.
You guys have apparently forgotten that he almost single-handedly beat Louisville and kept us in the game against North Carolina. We need him badly to be successful and we need his confidence even more, so cheer him on. A crowd that goes wild when you succeed is much more motivating than a crowd who expects you to fail. Let's get behind him!
I wish JT would have gone to the NBA because he is a lousy college player.
It is only 2 games into the season. I agree his shot selection has been terrible so far, but Coach Rose has reined him in. For example, he didn't start in the 2nd half of the Idaho St. game. JT will shoot better & have better shot selction and when he does the Cougars will be a top 20 team. To tell you the truth, I'm more concerned about Miles play. He needs to produce more points in the paint (not fade aways) and more rebounds. Miles should get at least (average) 8 points and 6-8 boards a game. If Miles can do that, then BYU becomes a top 10 team.
JT will easily have the record for most 3s TAKEN and MISSED.
Coach Rose needs to bench JT. having watched him against Bradley he needs to be the 6th man off the bench. he is a streaky shooter at best. so far he has shown NO and i mean ZERO progress from last year. he takes inappropriate shots at the basket still. Tyler Haws needs to be starting. this kid is the real deal. i so wish JT had gone pro during the summer. JT is a good player when he has his head in the game but it's too frustrating to wait for the streaks to occur. consistency is where it is at. JT is not consistent. i believe he is holding back Jimmer, Haws, Emery, Miles, and Michael Loyd jr from becoming the cohesive "final four in the works" group with Davies adding a huge 1-2 punch off the bench.
T. Haws needs to be starting every single game, I mean, in 22 minutes per game for two game he scored a staggering 6 points in each game. He ought to be playing the flul 40 minutes every single game. I would venture to say that if he plays 40 minutes a game and Tavernari can increase his 3-point shooting to a solid 10% percent, I say Cougs take the national championship this year!
Have they combined for 10 points yet?
Are people serious on this board? "a top ten team" and a "final four team"... HAHAHAHA. First win a game, just one, in the tournament.
And to be honest i don't think a MWC championship this year is a certaintly...UNLV looks really athletic and defends well...SDST has the players to beat anyone if they could just put the pieces together..And Utah and New Mexico are no pushover's
point is BYU is in for a wake up conference season!
It says he's going to break Bigelow's record in fewer attempts. Nobody complained that Bigelow was taking bad shots. Are these BYU fans commenting here or Ute trolls?
They might be able to more if they ever got the ball! and yes they have.
Utah was a pushover for lowly Idaho at the Huntsman Center. Is this another Houston Baptist team from up north or is Utah just really bad?
No matter, BYU will dominate the MWC.
Yes, JT's off to a slow start. I'm sure he is disappointed enough in the results so he doesn't need a dogpile.
JT has the ability of making BYU a threat against the best teams in the country when he is on. The question is whether our inside guys can step it up.
He'll come around soon and when he does the games will be even more fun to watch.
will break the record.
Then the next BYU chucker will break the record. Followed by the next, and the next, and .....
Face it, BYU is all about chucking up the ball as quick as anyone on the perimeter thinks they may have a shot.
As far as Tavernari not progressing, that seems to be the record for Rose. Rose is not great at progressing players. Plaisted was as good on day 1 as he was when he left (and don't you find it interesting he left a year of eligibility to go play bottom tier Euro BBall). Even Cummard was no better when he left than what could be chalked up to getting more physically mature. But, when it comes to developing players potentials, Rose is not adept at that process.
