Go AIR FORCE!!!

USAFA 99

Go Air Force, Cream the Cougars

Ernest T. Bass

I think it's neat they have an eagle scout team.

Idaho

You byu/mormon haters are amazing. I'm neither Utah nor BYU so I just don't get why every single game has to be so full of stupid and/or hateful remarks that absolutely don't serve anyone or any purpose other than to throw vicious words and innuendos. Not even the writers are "proud" of what they say because nobody knows who they are, they do it in secrecy.
I read an article about one team or the other and feel it is pretty neutral. Then when it is discussed in this comment section...wow...someone just take the time to tell me "why" it is necessary. As sgt. Joe Friday says, "Just the facts man, just the facts."

The USAF team

has been a good program over the past three decades. If a Y team will commit to running the football, they will never lose to the Falcons. Make them put 8 guys in the box to stop a powerful O line and running game and then sit back and watch Max and Jacobson/Pitta take them apart. The only way AF wins is if BYU doesn't rely and their overwhelming strength (O line and Unga/tonga) and tries dropping back three fourths of the time.

Old Cougar

Does the Mormon/Byu hater realize how many Mormons now and in the past played for AFA? AFA has a classy football organization, and Yes, I want the Cougars to win, but being a AF vet, I love the Falcons also. I will be a fun game.

So Cal Y Fan

Let me get this right. Air Force is No. 4 in the country in rushing offense? And we expect the Y's front 7 to stop them enough to win? Based on what's happened thus far against some pretty weak teams (SDSU and New Mexico), I don't get a warm, fuzzy feeling about this game. Let's hope the Y offense can score enough to supplant Air Force's high scoring. With the exception of Oklahoma, the Y's defense has not stopped many credible offenses at all. I can't imagine how that will suddenly change in this game, but we can always hope! Go Cougs!!

Re: the USAF team

There is a big difference between the USAF and the Air Force Academy, please do not refer to the Falcons as the USAF

USAFA Class of 62

Can't loose either way, but I'd like to see the Cougars prevail. Wonder who Elder R. Oaks (AFA '59), with one previous year at BYU, will be cheering for. He probably puts this way down on the emotional energy list.

USAFA Class of 08

Go Falcons, beat the cougars!

Cougarf@n

BYU always matches up well against AF. Every year AF gives good teams trouble and almost beats (or actually beats) Utah, and every year BYU beats AF fairly convincingly. It's called discipline and BYU has it. They may not have speed, but they're assignment sound and they can stop the option. The only thing that might make this game interesting is AF's defense. If it's a low scoring game then AF has a pretty good shot. Also, if BYU plays nearly as bad as they did against UNM then it could get ugly, but I just don't see that happening.

Play the scout team

Maybe Bronco should play the scout team instead of his starters. Couldn't hurt.

AFA Game Highlight

...or should I say pre-game highlight will be the flyover by the USAF. From there it will be all downhill for the cadets. Go Cougs!!

Re; So Cal Y Fan

No offense, but you obviously don't follow college football very much. Air Force is the #4 rushing team in the country because that is ALL they do. They maybe throw 8-12 times a game (when a qb with a good arm is playing for them). Look up what teams lead the nation in rushing and I can bet you that Air Force, Army, Navy, and Georgia Tech will all be in the top ten...because it is all they do.

You reference SDSU and New Mexico. Bad examples hombre. SDSU stayed in the game with the pass. New Mexico rushed effectively, but nothing incredible. We even managed to keep TCU rushing in check (when compared to their performance against other teams...especially the Utes). We controlled the Oklahaoma rushing game, and limited Utah State's rushing (look up the stats for their RB Turbin in other games). Really, Florida State was the only team that beat us badly with the run.

BYU may not have the best athletes but our d-line and linebackers are disciplined. And this week, that means a W.

re: So Cal Y Fan | 3:15 p.m.

BYU has one of the top defenses in the country against the run. BYU is far better against the run than Utah is. The weather is supposed to be nasty Saturday as well. It should be an interesting game. I see BYU winning by 10 or more.

Y Grad / Y Dad

I like to look at common opponents:

BYU - Colorado State - W 42-23
AFA - at Colorado State - W 34-16
BYU - at San Diego State - W 38-28
AFA - San Diego State - W 26-14
BYU - (10) TCU - L 7-38
AFA - (10) TCU - L 17-20
BYU - at Wyoming - W 52-0
AFA - Wyoming - W 10-0

Edge to Air Force vs TCU, edge to BYU vs Wyoming, pretty much even money against CSU and SDSU. Should be a great game between two honorable teams.
BYUat New MexicoW 24-19
AFAat New MexicoW 37-13

Which team?

It looks to me that if BYU plays like they did at Wyoming, then the Cougars will win. If BYU plays like they did at New Mexico, then they will lose.

Gretkzy

Unga is nursing an ankle bender so he is a NO GO unless they want to waste him for the Utah game. Kariya and backups did just fine vs. OK. Hall will have to have a wyoming game or lights out. this is the most feared game on the schedule at the beginning of the season for cougar fans. we figured FSU, TCU and OK would get us. we were right on two of them. Air Force is the 4th team we feared. Go Cougars! cut blocking should be a penalty.

Do you like apples....

BYU is 23 and 6 vs. AFA. How bout those apples?

BYU disciplined?

Really, BYU's defense is disciplined? I don't think a disciplined team would get smoked by FSU a few weeks after the "biggest win in history" A disciplined team would not have such a let down. A disciplined defense would not get smoked, again, by TCU, both times at home. A disciplined defense would not let New Mexico have such a close game. This defense can be called several things, but disciplined is not one of them.
