when they can play to competent PGs in tandem. DWill becomes the 2 that the Jazz have missed for years. They can be potent since Maynor can run the PG.
Boozer loves Maynor since Maynor is more likely to work with Boozer. Boozer seems to play better with Maynor at the point.
The Jazz also tend to play well with Boozer at C sandwiched by AK and Millsap. His D is better with 2 defenders flanking him.
I love winning. I even like Sloan as long as he plays whoever will play the best as combos.
Maybe the Jazz can beat SA in SA. They had a grueling game with DAL tonight.
Some outside shooting could make life hard on SA. Boozer matches well with Duncan. McDyes may be a problem.
This Mathews kid plays good D compared to the alternatives, and he occasionally produces on offense, but he sure doesn't rebound or steal the ball.
They totally need to have Maynor start in the game with Williams. Having two guards in the game like this worked really well when Derek Fisher was still here a couple years ago and I can totally see it working again. At any rate, the Jazz seem to have turned over a new leaf the last few games and ought to stick with it for a while, especially since they seem to be gaining momentum with it.
Wes is awesome so is Eric!
Maynor ... WOW!
After watching Maynor in Clevland I was wondering if the Beehive state was big enough for two special points of their calibre. Last night I wittnessed beauty on the court as Williams and Maynor together sliced up the raptors like a Thanksgiving Turkey.
It did not matter who had the ball, the defense was on their hills. They could not double the PG's or they would get eaten alive. Eric Maynor makes basketball fun to watch again. Remember Joe Dumars, Vinnie Johnson and Zeke Thomas. That was a great 3 gaurd rotation in 1987-1990's.
Matthews, Maynor & Will could be something special. A very stong backcourt, mentally tough. I am very enthused about these fellas. Three gaurds that can rebound and get into the paint.
Matthews has a floor presence like nobody on this squad. He has an NBA body. His mind & mental presence is like an old gunfighter. He is not rattled by any of this stuff. He is not distracted at all. I swear, the kid plays and handles himself like he is 30 years old.
As THANKSGIVING SEASON is approaching, I'll bet Kevin is thankful for Eric, Wes & his Job!
The defense was on their heals not "hills". he he
ITS ALL ABOUT THE PAINT!
I love the paint. I love guards who can get into the paint. I love guards who can rebound.
Now let me mention something on the other side of the floor. You guessed it...THE PAINT! Isn't it amazing on offense how we need to get into the paint to be successful & on defense it needs to be shut down to have success.......very simple. If you were trying to shut down the paint......would You use (A) a 6' 10 man from Turkey who loves to roam around way out on the perimeter or (B) a 7' 1" 300 lb Ukranian who has paint all over him?
I thought so!
In 5 days Kevin O's job was saved, D'Wil's career was probably extended and the sinking ship we call the Utah Jazz found some bouyancy!
All because of two rookie gaurds!
D'Wil can now play 5-10 less minutes most nights and while he is out there, much of the pressure is off of him while he is partnering a backcourt with the two new young studs both of which can take the ball off the dribble into the paint to score, draw the foul or dish!
BASKETBALL IS BEAUTIFUL AGAIN!
I have said enough.
I am going back to the Oracle now!
Peace Out!
Where are all you Boozer haters?
Although a baby in a mans body he knows what to do with a basketball. Not many people in the league can play at his level and even fewer would consider a trade and end up in SLC.
Does anyone have an answer for next year? And no the answer is not Millsap.
I was ready to quit watching the Jazz. After a Meltdown in Dallas, The Sacramento disappearance & all the Boozer crap! But on the road trip I found a new reason to watch. The future of our Utah Jazz is bright! Kevin O' & Jerry were saved by Wes Matthews & Eric Maynor. Things were in disarray and getting very ugly. But Wes Mattews was put into the starting lineup and the kid plays like he is 30. Marquett must be a whale of a program. The young fella acts like he has already been around the block a couple times.
Then to my surprise when D'Wil leaves a discombobulated squad, Eric Maynor steps in and teaches them all how to have fun again. He will slice them up. He loves to get into the paint. The skinny little fella has a knack for getting into the paint & and that is where good things happen. He has a way of getting his shot off even inside over defenders and he uses the glass. He can draw the foul get a banker or find a cutter or spot up shooter. Eric Maynor top 2/3 Jazz PG all time!
Maynor can play there's no doubt about that, but I'm not ready to rave over Matthews! He's an average role player getting way too much hype from the media!
These kids give us so many options, especially with the defense Matthews has been playing, keep it up,you don`t have to score a bunch just play within the system,GO MATTHEWS,GO MAYNOR,GO JAZZ!!!!
The first night of a back-to-back, with the rookie backup PG playing awesome, BUT D-Will still plays 43 minutes. What's the point of having a great backup if the starter is still getting worn out with all the minutes?
It's not hills, it's not heals, it's heels.
Eric Maynor is not the top 2/3 PG of all time. Not close, he has potential but Stockton, Williams, Fisher, maybe even Arroyo, have been better (I am young so I don't really no anything about PGs before Stockton). He has big time potential though. It would be awesome to have to great guards.
So I can't help but look to the future and want to ask fans that have more knowledge than I do.
It seems like next summer we will be able to pick up the final pieces that we need. We will have salary coming off of the books (Boozer, Korver, Brewer?), we will have a huge expiring contract (AK), we could have a lottery pick (Keep it up NYK), and we have young talent that can really step it up (Matthews looks like he could easily take Brewer's place, provide outside shooting, and be cheaper; the Maynor/Williams backcourt experience could be great).
So the question, what should we do with these tools?
One game against Toronto. Calm down. Brewer is seeing his minutes diminish rapidly. He is on his way out.
Now the question is: What will Jerry do?
People like you usually understand ESPN & stats. You obviously do not understand things like court awareness and floor presence! The level of understanding is usually a correlation between experience and intelligence! Thanks for your comment though!
Love Doc
Hi All,
I have loved watching the last three Utah games. Maynor is playing just like he did for the last 2 1/2 years in college. He had the same poise and concentration -- always looking for ways to turn a game around (and often, miraculously, finding them). He moves like a cat and is so great to watch. I thought he was the most overlooked PG in the draft this year and couldn't believe that nineteen teams passed him up before Utah had the foresight to take him. He's a true point guard and those are hard to find.
D-Will is a MUCH better 3 point shooter when he gets the ball passed to him and his feet are set.
He is a very average 3 point shooter when he is shooting 3's off the dribble.
He was knocking them down when Maynor was bringing the ball up the floor and hitting D-Will on the perimeter. Not only that the other obvious benefit is we need perimeter shooters in the worst possible way.
I know D-Will hates to not be THE PG handling the ball all the time but he ought to realize he can be a better % shooter AND spread the floor which will open the inside for Boozer to work.
It is no coincidence with the recent emergence of all the improved perimeter shooting (Matthews, AK, Maynor) that Boozers stats have dramatically improved.
No wonder Boozer can't stop talking about these guys. They open up the paint for him to operate.
Actually they were on their heels.... sorry I couldnt resist.
Jazz life is looking way good! Fes looked good, Maynor was terrific, EVERYBODY pretty much looked alive and having fun, as was I. New hope once again resurrected!
Two questions from this 69-year-old neurotic Jazz fan: Why do they call assists "dimes" and what is that big dark inky blob tattoo on DWill's arm? I can't make it out. Just curious. Thanks for any insight on these two earth-shattering questions.
