I think the most accurate statement that Butters has ever made is, "I have not changed my mind about anything". To which one could only add: ever...on any subject...regardless of what further facts or information comes to light. I am sure Butters still really believes the earth is flat.

Kory

Buttar's comments are horrible. Any time you say "done" or "stop" to any human's rights, YOU are the oppressor.

It boggles my mind that this democracy, a "bastion of freedom," still has government leaders trying to create inequality. By definition, if one group has more rights than another, in any way for any reason, the balance is not equal.

It saddens me that a public official actually feels comfortable saying that some people shouldn't have the same rights as others. Really? Is that how we "love our neighbors" in this majority christian State?

Jason

TO: Jake - Your comment on Butters thinking 'the world is flat' is a clear indication of what you think of conservatives in general. This is really the problem with secular thinking. The elite left think they know so much more than those of us who are traditionalists and conservative...

I'm not advocating for the extreme right...I think they are as loony as the far left, but I do agree with Butters on a few items (though I think he could articulate it a little better). The concern here for me is once you give the homosexual movement an inch, they want a mile. They want society to accept them and their lifestyle as normal. I personally don't have a problem with allowing them all the rights of an American citizen (in my mind that's what they are just like me), but when they are constantly pushing their selfish lifestyle down the throats of me and my family, then I take offense.

I do not, nor will I ever, support legislation to corrupt the divine and sacred institution of marriage! I think most clear thinking Utah residents feel the same way.

Buttar's is the Utah every one in America knows...and LOATHES

James

Like Jason I am in them middle on this issue and a conservative in general. The argument over marriage discrimination is settled. Utah discriminates and there is nothing the gay community can do about. Stop talking about it on both sides. It is a moot point that fails to address other real issues.

However, since Amendment 3 passed Utah created a separate class of people, that are openly discriminated against, some would argue with state sanctioning. Employment and housing protections, do not in any way affect marriage. If fact, simple rights such as hospital visitation for their loved one also will not erode anyone's marriage. It serves to strengthen the relationship that uses the rights.

No one expects you to teach your children that an alternative to your lifestyle is normal, but please stop telling others that they cannot decide what is right for them and their family, just because it may be different from yours. The government should not be in the business of rewarding person A over person B. Leave that discussion for religions themselves where they not only have the choice, but the right to worship as they may.

We have not heard form Bitter Buttars in quite a while.

I think he has not gotton over having his name and having to go to school with it.

He is the kind of Conservative that scares me, because he is just plain mean.

Did he passs his Harddrive check or did his Avatar just say No.

To Kory

The gay rights movement wants to move beyond equality - they demand special rights.

They continually attempt to pass hate crimes bills so that a criminal would receive a harsher penalty for assaulting a gay person than for assaulting my grandma.

Does this sound like a group wanting equality?

Anyone but Buttars

Jason, the issue here is something you stated: "...I think he could articulate it a little btter." Really? What a concept. The reality is, everytime Buttars opens his mouth he shoves his foot way, way down.

I have strong conservative opinions about gay rights, the institution of marriage, etc., but I don't want Chris Buttars speaking for me. He's hurtful, he's ignorant, and he's divisive. He should keep his enormous mouth SHUT.

Joe

Two people in love who wish to be married is not disrupting the institution of marriage, its people who hate people for being different then themselves, those are the ones that corrupt and hurt the institution of marriage. Gays who stick up for what they believe in and fight for it are not pushing their lifestyle down anyones throats they are standing up for their rights which is in the constitution that all men are created equal, not some are and some aren't.

Edward

I AM normal Jason. I bleed, I love and I have hopes and dreams just like you do. You might love a woman, I love a man. Nature put me here, probably, if I were to give it much thought, to help compensate for the aggressiveness of straight males in general and help create a balance on this planet. Right now you are being particularly aggressive in what you wrote in your comment. As a gay man, I don't want to take a mile when you give me an inch...I don't want to take anything from you. In fact, I don't think you are qualified to give me an inch. Nature gave me my life, not you. I answer to my god - not yours - and in the end, we will see who it was who acted like the better human being. You, the man who doesn't agree with giving people equal rights? Or me - the man who is fighting for them.

Stefanie

Buttars still has along way to go. The fact that he says "stop or done" after what he has just said, clearly say's he's not comfortable with Gay rights.

I dont believe standing up for your rights and fighting for what you believe in is being selfish and pushing a lifestyle down anyones throats. I am for a legislation that advocates equal rights for all men not just some. Most clear thinking Americans would agree with me/

Beth

What great progress.

UTAH Bill

Buttars, and other legislators, should not interfere with local governments doing what a majority of their citizens support. It's democracy at a community level - regardless of whether others in the state support it or not. This is not just about human rights - it's about the ability of a city to govern itself.

What would Jesus Do?

Christ spent his time with sinners while the Pharasees condemned him. Where would we who claim to follow Christ fit in by comparison?

Stick to your guns Buttars. Gays are not entitled to any "special" privileges that others are not entitled to. The so-called gay rights movement is designed to obtain special rights and privileges that others to not have, to create a special class (like blacks have done with race), so they get special treatment. This is totally wrong in a democracy.

Gays have exactly the same

rights as everyone else. They just want more.

Why so surprised...

...this guy personafies the majority view of the population in UT. he keep getting re-elected. Though many in UT . would argue the majority of the population appears biggoted and hateful. Too bad because UT really is a beautiful state and would be even more so if the hateful culture would change.

Dear Jason

Jason, may I suggest that you take a moment and reflect on your comment "they are constantly pushing their selfish lifestyle down the throats of me and my family, then I take offense". I think with some reflection you may realize that many gay people feel exactly the same way about people like you. This could give you a little insignt into our desire for equal representation under the law. No one is asking for anything to be taken away from you other than maybe your ability to dictate how we live our lives.

Butters is rough around the edges and could choose his words more carefully but he is almost always right! I proudly support Chris. I wish he was in my district so I could vote for him.

Liberalism is destroying our country! We need do keep our traditional values and continue to expand tolerance
of others differences without compromising our moral values.

Say West Jordan not Chris Butter

Don't say that Chris Butters wants this or Chris Butters wants that. Say the peopel of West Jordan want this and the people of West Jordan want that. The people of West Jordan made Chris Butters. They voted for him because he represents who they are. It is a city of lot's of Chris Butters walking around with the same brain and same thinking. I drive around West Jordan.
