Comments about ‘BYU football: Hall on cusp of being wins record holder’

I don't care how many wins Hall has he still is not as good as Young, McMahon, Doman, Bosco, and Detmer. I would take any of those QB's over Hall any day of the week. Hall throws way too many INT's and he only has 1 marquee win in all of his time at BYU. I think a close examination of the complete record will bear this out. Hall is good but not in the same league as the others I have mentioned.

I agree, the other QBs made it to the NFL draft, Hall won't make it, unless somebody wants him as a "waterboy". I went to every single game at home, and the fans around me and includng me, yell for him to be pulled out. We agree that we are going to remember him as the QB that couldn't compete against equal or quality teams. Hall like Bronco might be good guys, but good QB and good headcoach, there's a lot to be desired from them. Hall has benefited from having softer schedules, had he had to play TCUs, Utahs FSUs AZs every week, he wouldn't have had any wins.

Perhaps you need to take a close examination of Detmer, then. He only had one marquee win, and threw way more interceptions. Also, his win percentage was worse than Hall's, and don't try telling me he played better competition. The MWC now is better than the WAC was then.


At what point in Hall's career has he had a 5 game losing streak like Detmer did? At what point in Hall's career has he lost by 50+ points, like Detmer did? At what point in Hall's career has he thrown an interception into the endzone when his team was in chipshot field goal range for the win, like Detmer did?


If Ty Detmer played today, he'd be run out of cougar town. I mean, as a senior QB, he only had 8 wins.

If he can thump Utah this year, he will redeem himself in my eyes. And, it needs to be a down right butt whuppin to make up for last years debacle.

The article does not say anything about Hall being better than Young, McMahon, etc. It does not mention anything about Hall being NFL-ready. It talks about total wins and Hall has definitely been a very winning quarterback for BYU. He's done a great job. Pretty tough when you are about to break a wins record and your fans still don't think you're a good QB.

If Hall be raised to what Detmer's status is as a BYU QB, then Hall needs to thrash Utah like Detmer did when he threw for like 6 TDs and BYU beat Utah like 70 to 20. That was a bloodbath, and my opinion of Hall would change in one game. lucky 4th and 18 miracles don't do it for me. BYU needs some swagger back, and pounding Utah would be the trick!

folks, just be happy for Max. No one is arguing he's the best ever -- not even Max himself. He's won a lot of games, and everyone should be happy for him. That's all the article is saying.

For those trying to drum up criticism of Max, you can't really say much. There's an excellent chance BYU wins out the season and he gets 32 wins. He wins games, and wins them consistently. Greatest ever? No. But again, nobody is saying that.

hahahahahahahahahahahahah!!! Are you kidding me? Brian Johnson could barely thrown the ball ten yards down field. I have the utmost respect for Utah and what they did last year and in the last few years, but to say the qb play at Utah is stellar, or that they have great athletes is a joke. Utah wins with defense. Brian Johnson is a great guy and would make a great coach, but all he did was manage the game and tried not to get in the way of the defense.
Max Hall is called to win every game he plays in, which is impossible with defense he has to depend on.

You see, the yewt trolls are really just reverse fans of BYU. They couldn't tell you what is written about Utah or even the names of Yewt players, but they know how many interceptions hall threw in his first five games. They love articles about BYU, especially articles about Max Hall, and they flock to these articles like mosqitos to the fire. I'm not saying there aren't a few stupid BYU fans that have no clue what max has done for BYU's program, but if you get your feel for what "BYU fans" think based on an anonymous message board, then you might want to re-check your sources.

BYU has averaged 10 wins per season for four straight years and yet you complain. Hall will redeem himself? Hall doesn't play defense. Max is so righteous and handsome. He reminds me of a stripling warrior from the Book of Mormon.

Max may finish in the Top 10 on the all-time list of great BYU quarterbacks.

These last three games--Air Force, Utah, bowl game--will go a long way in determining whether or not he cracks the Top 10.

Hall's legacy will really be cemented on November 28th when it will be decided whether he finishes with a winning or losing record against Utah.

I can't see Max finishing ahead of Sheidi, Nielsen, Wilson, McMahon, Young, Bosco, Detmer, Sarkisian, Doman or Beck if Max finishes with a losing record against Utah.

Regardless, winning more games in his career than any other quarterback at tradition rich BYU is a significant accomplishment in and of itself.

If BYU finishes with another 10+ win, Top 25 season, Hall will be the only BYU QB to have accomplished that feat 3 times.

Are you kidding me? Are you serious? Your going to rag on a guy who has been the primary reason for winning at least 29 games in the last three seasons? You are the worst fans in the world. Go root for some other team that has wins more consistent than Max's - you'll have a hard time finding one. But go! Max has done an excellent job and with the defense he's had to win with he has done a remarkable job.
