Howard S.

Looks like Checketts has begun liquidating his interest in RSL.

Hmmmm.... take the money and run... what a surprise.

JM

Sounds to me like Dave is simply being a responsible business owner. Paying off debt to make the team even more financially stable. And how is paying off debt and investing the money back into the team "taking the money and running"? Seems to me, poor little Howard is jealous of Dave's success.

what we could have had Michael Eisner!

Re: JM @ 10:17 p.m.

Paying off debt makes Checketts more stable personally, but does nothing for RSL stability.

Checkett has a far more high profile sports investment in mind than RSL. Liquidating his interest in RSL is likely part of that investment.

As for a new practice facility... uhhh... yeah right.

Dave Checketts has really put his money where his mouth is. And it has taken a great deal of grit, determination and intelligence. The Miller family is to be lauded for all that they have done, but Checketts is right up there with his enthusiasm and guts.

Who cares?

curt,

Checketts isn't even in the same zip code as the Miller family with either enthusiasm or guts.

love it

Howard good to see you back on here bashing soccer and RSL..
@ReJM: What makes you think they won't build a new practice facility??? They already built one, and dont forget an entire 20,000 seat stadium!

It doesn't matter to me who the owner is as long as Real Salt Lake continues to be profitable and successful.

Anyone know Dell's phone #?

I have some beachfront property in Magna I think he might be interested in too.

If you don't care then why did you comment on this story?

funny

Back when checketts brought rsl to sandy everyone thought he was such a snake.. Now that he is going to buy the St. Louis Rams he is a gutsy pioneer right up there with the miller family!

Checketts was and always has been a great owner and business man..

Re: Brunopuppy

Brunopuppy, you do realize that once Checketts buys the st. Louis Rams that he will be a much larger name that larry, and greg miller will ever be!

Tiny Jazz market or the st. Louis Rams.. Hmmmm let me think about that one! I'LL TAKE THE ST. LOUIS RAMS!!!

This is great news. Upgrading the Facility, new practice field, more stability for the club.

You kids will always find something to complain about.

P.S. the Miller family succes has come and gone.

Selling a minority share is not a liquidation move. It's a capital move and the idea of having a local partner is smart.

get the facts people

This is a great investement for Hansen! The MLS grows in value every single year!
Hansen acts as if it were just some completely spontaneous thing and as if he is doing it just for the fun of it... The guy is no bum off the street, he likely makes up to 15 or 20 times what you and I make.. This is a good investment and he knows it..

It's great having a local owner! Provides much more stability to the team. Bottomline: I don't care who owns the team. RSL is here to stay and so am I. GO RSL!

Except

that most of his purchases have been with other people's money, not his own.

Respect This Play

Hansen is a genius. He's built a real estate and sports empire from scratch in a few decades. If he's involved in this, you can bet that it's good for the team's long term value--and that's good for our community. Respect.

One thing people forget about the "miller" family is that without checketts they have no shot. He brought Larry MIller in to replace Same Batistone as owner when he was president. He drafter malone and stockton and made the team a success in Utah. Then he left and changed the mindset with the knicks as they made the playoffs 10 years in a row. When he left, things went downhill. So having checketts in Utah is only a good thing in my opinion he is successful here and has proven his worth in the past. Im glad Hansen is on board, seems like a jolly guy with alot of money, and well money is green.....

Re: Except

I'm not sure if you are talking about checketts or the Miller Family? Either way you are right i guess.. Checketts bought RSL by himself. Miller bought the Jazz by himself. They both used public funding to pay for their respective stadiums..
