This neighbor is a supposed good friend, but for some reason he can't seem to keep his mouth shut, which may hinder the case..there is a reason the police are not releasing information, he should be respectful of that and keep quiet until they release the info...I am sure Mr Mortensen's family are not real thrilled with his running his mouth.

For a man who was cautious like him, he had to known the perpetrators. No man leaves his guard down in the face of a stranger...plus he was been constantly watch. What a shame! when we trust the world and the world just stabs us in the face.. and we always believe that we live in a safe zone!

If anyone has any information regarding this shooting, please talk to the authorities. What a tragedy to this family. We should be able to feel safe in our homes!!!

This is a strange story. It is not often that someone is murdered so violently and two others are simply tied up and not injured. Why would anyone leave eye witnesses that will be able to talk to authorities. It doesn't pass the smell test.

Maybe the intruders (assuming it was more then one) had masks on and Mr. Mortensen tried to stop them and it went wrong and he got killed? The intruders perhaps did not intend to kill when they entered and being in disguise did not feel a need to kill the couple?

Maybe they broke in and got the jump on him? Or like the neighbor suggests Mr. Mortensen found himself staring down the business end of a shotgun? Or, like you say, maybe he knew them.

Anyway, I'm done with my amateur sleuthing, I'll leave it to the professionals, I hope they catch the killer(s) quickly.

Uh OH

Is this the same Kay Sherman Mortensen that shot his neighbors dog down in front of them?

What happened to that case?

Something's rotton in Denmark, er Payson. This incident reeks of plotting. Was this break in revenge? Someone out there know about this and isn't telling. Contact the police right away!!!!

A bad guy for shooting the neighbors dog AFTER repeatedly informing him of numerous negative issues? You kill a BAD dog! You don't paint the property owner as BAD for protecting himself and family and property! I'll take a fine any time rather than teeth marks. Come on you few numbies!

Dr. Mortensen was one of my favorite professors while I was at BYU. His depth of knowledge was immense, and his real-world engineering experience was key to how he taught his courses. What a tragic event; I am truly heartbroken for the family and how these events are unfolding.

Pediatric nurse

To uh OH I am a nurse and have taken care of too many kids that have been attacked by dogs. My husband while running has also been attacked by two huge dogs that had been behind a small 2 1/2 foot fence,(they easily jumped over) Sometimes dogs are not mans best friend and I think I would shoot one if someone was not taking charge to keep a dog out of my yard if they were dangerous. Dogs can be VERY DANGEROUS and they kill every year.

He that lives by the gun usually dies by the gun
The gun will NEVER Save you.
Just ask Dick Cheney!

It was not a shooting, he had his throat cut.

BAD OPSEC FOR A PREPPER.

Matt

Really Joseph? A gun has never saved a life? and then a tired old Dick Cheney joke? Wise up, guns save lives every day, how many lives has begging saved? I bet you think that people who own a few guns, some stocked food, and a backup generator are Y2K crazies right? Just ask all the people in the northeast who lost power for days and weeks if they wished they had planned ahead. Moron.

JingleBelle

Who untied Roger and Pam and who made the 911 call? Were they not present when Kay was murdered? They are the eyewitnesses and can provide a lot of information. Did the intruders speak? What did they say. Was there really a robbery?
