USU | 9:42 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Should be a fun game to watch. I expect USU to pull out all the stops. They have nothing to lose. It will certainly be a high scoring game for Boise State. We'll see what Utah State can pull out of the hat.
Yep | 9:48 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
They'll be playing the very best they can, there's not much pressure on USU. I doubt BSU will come in with a reason to play extremely hard, and more than likely, they'll win. But hopefully USU can have a strong game.

Aspire -- I don't think you've been watching this year. Things are changing in Logan as far as football is concerned.
My two cents | 8:05 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
There should be no reason Boise State won't cream USU playing hard or not. Boise is just so dominant in the WAC that USU has no chance in this game. The Aggie defense is plagued with so many injuries that the talent just isn't there to pull the stops on Boise. And although the offense has improved it's going to have a tough time getting anything going.

I do think USU will improve under Andersen. And Aggie fans shouldn't give up so easily on him and his coaching staff. I can't think of a single program that turned it around in a coaches 1st year. But I can name several that turned the tables in a coaches 2nd and 3rd year.

So look for the same thumping this year, but I think this match-up could become more interesting once the tables turn in Logan. Somebody else in the WAC needs to step up and start giving it to Boise. And I can't think of anyone better than a Utah team!
Why Boise State | 8:39 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Boise State is the most overrated team in college football. Put them in PAC 10, SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and they are so middle of the pack maybe even in the bottom 3. Let the Oklahoma game go already. This team is a joke!
I forgot | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
that this article was written about the Fiesta Bowl and Boise State beating Oklahoma...oh wait. Who said anything about the Oklahoma game? And middle of the pack? You do realize that Boise beat the top team in the PAC-10, right? They would probably beat most teams in the Top 25, but that's not saying much considering BYU and Utah are still in the Top 25. At least they are consistently good, rather than having one great season and then rebuilding for the next two like the Utes.
Anonymous | 9:53 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Beg to differ. Boise State is a very, very good football team, and they are not just sneaking by all their opponents, they are embarrassing most of them. They would defeat every MWC team, except maybe TCU, and that would be a great game to see.
SEC Fan | 10:34 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
BSU has enough talent and trickery to beat any team on a Saturday(e.g. Oklahoma a couple years ago, Oregon this year, etc.). However, put them in the SEC or other top conference, where top to bottom the size and talent is significantly greater, and they are middle of the pack and not a top ten program. The week after week physical beating would take its toll and they would be exposed. Both BYU and Utah are bottom 1/3 programs in top conferences. Both have proven that this year (e.g. Florida State, TCU, Oregon)
BleedBlue | 11:37 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Love how the fans jump every chance they get to remind BSU how small they are. BSU is what BYU once(and maybe still) is. Solid programs that don't get respected. Utah is also in this boat. Why we can't be happy that all three are capable of beating anyone at the top of our game is mind blowing. Look for BSU to travel very well making Romney a home game for the broncos. In fact come by the tail gates for a dog or other great food and enjoy the college football experience.
Amen SEC Fan | 11:45 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Last year the u squecked by a couple of MWC teams and then had 6 weeks to prep for Alabama. I doubt the U, y or TCU could take the weekly grind of a major conference. It is easy to look good in a confernce full of New Mexicos.

That given, BSU will be by far the best team USU faces this season. Size and team depth will give BSU the second half.
Baby Steps | 12:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
If the Aggies aspire to be like the Broncos, the first thing they need to do is stop blaming BYU and Utah for the collapse of a once good football program.

It's been almost 50 years since Utah and BYU joined the WAC and left Utah State behind.

Some Aggie fans still blame not being invited to the WAC for the demise of the Aggie football program.

In that same time period, Boise State has moved from being a junior college, to a four year college, to a university.

Along the way, Boise State moved from competing as a junior college (1933), to Division II (Independent/Big Sky - 1968), to Division 1AA (1978), and finally to Division 1A (Big West/WAC - 1996).

If Utah State ever wants to be successful in football, it needs to stop playing the blame game and get to work rebuilding their own program.

If the Aggies aren't ever going to be able to compete with BYU and Utah, maybe they should consider dropping down a level, where they could be very competitive against Weber State.

Re Baby Steps | 12:49 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
I don't think the Aggies administration is blaming anyone. I think it's the fan base that keeps harping on BYU and Utah and what shoulda coulda woulda. Fact is, we haven't put as much emphasis on football as we have on basketball. I think building a successful football program is harder than a basketball program. It costs more money, more effort and it takes longer. Now, I think the administration has put more emphasis on football and it shows in most games as we are a lot more competitive than we used to be. It hasn't translated into a better record but at least the team is playing hard and seems to care a lot more. Next year should result in more wins and the year after that we need to go to a bowl game for sure.
Go Aggies!!!
Udon'tKnow | 12:50 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
SEC fan. the resources are completely different when it comes to MWC and WAC teams competing in the SEC, Big 12, etc. 1st off, SEC teams would have to travel to Boise for a league game...yeah right. Next, recruiting would be completely upgraded. BSU competes w/WSU, MT, USU, and Fresno for recruits. If they're in a BCS league, they would get 4 and 5 star recruits. I would love to see what Coach Pete and staff could do w/better athletes.
MWC Fan | 1:10 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Sure, Alabama is undefeated and ranked #2 in the country right now, but they couldn't go undefeated in the MWC. They would get "rolled" by TCU, and we all saw what happened last year when they met the Utes in what was practically a home game for them. They'd be 3rd place at best in the Mtn. West.
BSU | 1:12 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
They would whither if they were in the MWC or PAC-10. Their talk is cheap since they will never be in either.
re: SEC fan | 1:32 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
The SEC elites couldn't handle the weekly grind of playing in the MWC either.

Traveling to different time zones, playing at sea level one week and 7200 feet the next, playing in ice and snow, and playing at BYU, at Utah, at Air Force and at BYU for half of their games, instead of playing 8 games a season in the cozy confines of their home stadiums.

I'd love to see Alabama or Florida or LSU playing on the frozen tundra in Laramie in November.

Give BYU, TCU, and Utah the recruiting budgets, television exposure and other advantages enjoyed by the SEC schools and they'd be going toe-to-toe with Florida in a very short time.

The fact is, the wimpy teams in SEC are scared to death of playing in Salt Lake City or Provo or Fort Worth because they know there is a very good chance they'd lose. That's why Alabama backed out of their scheduled visit to Provo after the Crimson Tide barely beat BYU in Alabama.

RE: SEC fan | 3:23 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Until the SEC is willing to take chances and play Mountain West teams or even Boise State more often all of your evidence that the SEC is so much better top to bottom is just in your head. Unfortunately they won't come prove it on the field.
Reality Check | 3:28 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
All of you are ridiculous. Be happy with your success. BYU, BSU, Utah, TCU are great teams and if they had the same money or budget as a Florida or Alabama then they perhaps could consistently be great. But they don't. Be happy with what you have and support TCU.
By the way. TCU non conference. Virginia and Clemson. Virginia is horrible and Clemson is above average. Nothing to brag about. BYU beat a mediocre Oklahoma team then FSU (all i need to say). Utah played Oregon and lost. You guys are in need of a reality check. Utah football haha
@Amen SEC Fan  | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
The u, BYU, and tcu would make BSU into a good 4th place MWC team. usu? Please don't ask.
Re: SEC Fan | 5:12 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Before you start dogging BSU and the WAC, take a look in the mirror.

This weekend, UF is playing Florida International & Bama is playing Chattanooga!!! Now that's quality competition!

Isn't it kind of late in the year to be playing cupcakes?

Poor fans | 5:39 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
It's amazimg how jealous local fans are of BSU. I guess it's hard for them to abmit how many times BSU has wiped the field off with local teams. If you are going to talk tough maybe you should have your teams play that way against BSU but as far as I have seen Boise States completely rules the Mountain West and has for years!
What is wrong with ya'll? | 6:03 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Look, all you MWC/WAC haters, seriously? Last year Alabama almost went to the national champ and they got stomped... they never had a chance. Last year even Wyoming (1-7 in conference play) beet Tennessee in Ten. who went (3-5 in conference play).. so guess what?? Yep, our bottom feeder beat yours on the road.. overrated!

Okay, now all MWC/WAC fans. We are in the same boat. So what if the MWC has a few teams that are at the top, where Boise is alone in the WAC, if anything I know that MWC fans are jealous (I know I am). If BYU, TCU, or Utah (and do I even dare put Air Force in the mix?) were alone in the MWC and scheduling one respectable non conference game, they too would probably go undefeated most seasons. But guess what, the fact is that the MWC has been making noise the past couple years and they are looking very probable to get an automatic bid.. till then we are on the same side of the fence.
re: re: SEC fan  | 6:40 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
"Traveling to different time zones, playing at sea level one week and 7200 feet the next, playing in ice and snow..."

We saw the results of Florida State (.500 team, middle of the pack ACC, non ranked) traveling 2000+ miles, over time zones, 5000 foot mountains, blah, blah, blah to play in the "hostile environment" of Cougar stadium.

Re: Poor fans | 7:57 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Boise fans' obsession with everything related to Utah is beyond frustration to fans here in Utah. You guys beat up on lousy, pathetic competition, then think that you are the greatest team in the universe. If all BYU or Utah had to do was prepare for one tough game a year (i.e. Oregon AT HOME), then either team could go 12-0 each year. That's exactly what you Boise Staters have been doing for the past 10 years.

Concerning defeating BYU and Utah, up until now, the Boise State game has always been considered a trap game for both schools. Neither school has prepared much for them. What was there to gain? Both teams were more concerned with beating teams in BCS conferences or in their own conference. I assure you that had we known you guys would continue to try to rub those games in our faces, that we would have prepared for you and destroyed your team.

Anyway, we'll finally get a chance to see what Boise State is all about when both BYU and Utah both play you in the next couple of years.
A voice of reason | 8:42 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
You know, I love to read the silly comments Utah and BYU folks write. Boise State didn't write the article than spawned all the negative comments - the Deseret news did. Truth is, since the MWC was formed Boise football owns Utah and BYU. In fact, the Idaho Vandals own Utah. Go ahead Utah folks, look up the last game and it was in Rice stadium. I was there and by halftime all the red-dressed Utes had gone home.

BYU did beat Boise twice when it was Div II, but since becoming a Div I school Boise is 13-1 aginst the MWC and the only loss for Boise was a one-pointer last year in San Diego.

You know, Boise is a nice city, great weather at 2,400 feet elevation, a short drive on the interstate and a shorter flight into a terrific airport. Sure beats going to Wyoming or New Mexico.

Somebody from the Wasatch said Boise is only good in football. Hmmmm, let's see. Last time BYU played the Boncos in basketball, a Cougar loss. Last time Utah played Idaho, a Ute loss (last week in fact) in SLC,

Let's be friends.

to voice of reason | 8:46 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
It wasn't BYU that beat Boise when it was a Div II school, it was Utah. The Cougars have never, never, never beaten Boise in football.

Go Utes!
What the MWC??? | 9:44 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
You know, I coulda sworn this was an article about the Utah State Boise State game. How did this become a MWC is better than SEC thing?
Consistency | 1:18 a.m. Nov. 18, 2009
Let's Not forget that Boise State beat Oregon AT OREGON the year before. All these arguments are pointless.
If you want to talk history Boise State has owned all non-BCS teams Utah: 36-3 in 2006, and started out terrible against BCS opponents, but now has won three straight. Oklahoma and Oregon twice.
Let's talk about the now. I'm humble and willing to think that TCU is a better team than Boise State this year, but Utah and BYU are overrated. Boise State has 4 seniors ON THEIR ROSTER. Half of them don't even start which means in the next couple years when The Broncos play the MWC we will continue our success over you guys.
Congratulations Utah on your two great seasons.
Congrats BYU on your one win over a four loss Oklahoma. We'll be great year in and year out.
Go TCU and BSU both bust the BCS!!!
U and Y Fans Amuse | 7:41 a.m. Nov. 18, 2009
Hypocrites. The y and u constantly cry for more recognition from the major conferences, then quickly claim that BSU doesn't play anyone and doesn't deserve the attention given them.

The fact is that the MWC and WAC are both non-impressive conferences. Currently, if you take out BSU, U, Y and TCU the rest of the teams are irrelevant. It is easy to rack up 10 wins and buffalo the polls with a conference like that.

Last year the U had 6 weeks to prep for their one big game against Alabama. The Big 12 and SEC teams suit up every conference game against bigger, faster harder hitting teams.

As this is an Aggie article, USU is definetly improving. Next year they should be bowl eligible and in a couple of years the Aggies will be fighting for the top.

Go Big Blue!!!

Anyone can beat anyone on any givin day and that is about heart.Too many people believe all the hype about teams like USC who did they lose to Oregon Stanford and the guy talking about the SEC and that Boise would be nothing in there league. Hey Boise beat Oregon right and lost the ball twice on bad snaps may have resulted in two more scores.LSU is ranked like 9th what was the score of that LSU LTech game oh ya and who was that team that almost beat the gators last week??? Boy they are so great we will see .And as far as the most overated team in college football those honors go hands down to Cincinatti lets see what happens when they play Pitt who would have trouble with nevada who yes played horrible against Irish but they have improved the irish have not. Boise state should be ranked at least 5th Cincy does not even deserve to be in the top ten. Love to see Stanford and Cincy in a bowl game be a even match up I pick Stanford by 10 ! Cincy will lose to Pitt !! Like to see TCU and Boise
Give BSU Credit | 10:59 a.m. Nov. 18, 2009
I played against Boise State the last 4 years. They are the real deal. They are the biggest or most athletic team, but they execute better than any team maybe in the history of college football. They run trick plays to perfect execution and score 95% of the time on them. They are very well coached, and for the last few years they have been consistently ranked in the top ten. Talk all you want about the WAC being bad. The fact of the matter is, they have beat everyone they faced in the past few years besides TCU who deserve to be play for the National championship this year. I hate Boise State and their fans, but they are a great football program and they deserve all the respect, rankings, and accolades they can get. Their record proves it. They embarass teams every week. They dominated an Oregon team that is #1 in the Pac-10. They played in one of the greatest football games ever in college football history(Oklahoma vs. BSU). They deserve to be ranked where they are.
re: Boise State | 11:48 a.m. Nov. 18, 2009
"owns utah!"???

In 2004, one of the worst BYU teams in the last 50 years traveled to Boise to play the undefeated Broncos.

With BYU leading 27-22 with 3:42 left in the game, Boise State scored a touchdown and missed the two-point conversion to take a 28-27 lead.

BYU marched down the field in the final minutes and with time running out, missed a chip shot FG attempt that sailed just wide.

Total offense:
BYU 415 yards
BSU 399 yards

BYU finished the season 5-6
BSU finished the season 11-1
with a 40-44 bowl game loss to Louisville

some domination!!!

Boise State was just fortunate that both of their games against BYU came during Crowton's 3 straight losing seasons, the worst stretch of BYU football in the last 50 years.

SEC Fan, I can't believe you are taking shots at Utah after they paddled Alabama last year. You are probably right about SEC getting all the money... didn't you say that? Yeah, I thought you said that SEC rakes in millions of dollars from TV networks and therefore, they can recruit whoever they want. Yeah, good point. You got me there.
Good luck Aggies | 9:59 p.m. Nov. 18, 2009
I think the Aggies can win this one. BSU will be playing for style points, so they will bring their A game. I just don't like BSU, I hope the Aggies drag them through the mud.
re: re: Boise State | 2:06 a.m. Nov. 19, 2009
Who cares? Stop living in the past. BYU almost beat BSU when it was bad... cool? That was when Boise State had no recognition in the nation and still had two-star caliber players while BYU who even though they sucked still had a decent recruiting class.
Why don't we talk most recent history. You were stomped by TCU last year when BSU only lost to them by one and could have easily beat them.
Or let's not talk history at all. Boise State would pound BYU if they played them this year. BYU's defense is horrible and Kellen Moore would just pick them apart, and Boise State's defense is consistent enough to keep Max Hall in check, who tends to choke in every big game he plays in.
Let's just wait til you lose to Utah and then we can say we beat oregon who beat utah who beat you... hahaha!
Go Broncos!

Instead of arguing about opinion, look at an unbiased mathematical ranking. The Wilson system is the only purely math based ranking system in the country today.

To find the ranks search on "Wilson performance rankings football"

Division I-A College Football Performance Ratings 14-Nov-09

A team's rating is the average of its opponents' ratings plus 100 for a win or minus 100 for a loss. Wins that lower the rating and losses that raise the rating count one twentieth as much as the other games. Post-season games count double. These ratings are in the public domain and may be freely published.

I have to say the funniest thing about these comments is that they mostly are related to Boise St, Utah, and BYU while very little discuss what the articles is really about. USU vs. BSU. Don't get me wrong I know why there is little interest in the actual game. My guess is it will be Boise blue that fills up Romney stadium while Aggie fans stay home and watch it on TV because it's going to be like 20 degrees or colder come kickoff time. The only thing worse than watching your team get their fannies kicked is watching your team getting their fannies kicked and freezing your butt off.

My prediction is 55-3 thumping from Boise.
