What a freakin' cry baby! Poor rich guy can't enjoy his house becaue a fire station is right next to it. He was probably all for the fire station to be built there. Maybe his house will catch fire, and the crew on duty will be on another call across town.

Hey, ever hear of closing the blinds? Or getting black out curtains?

There's a store across the street from my house and the lights in the parking lot are on all night.. I can't stand it. I think I will sue...

Dan and Mary, buy some shades for the windows.. I bet you don't spend much time in that room anyway!

But what if there is a fire?

Heaven forbid that those nasty firemen dare to rush out of the fire station to save lives and ruin our nice quiet evening!

I live across from the ballpark and it is daylight until 11 pm each night....I guess I will have to get the city to quit offering a recreation program because it is an inconvinence to my wife and I.

Geez, the glide path for Salt Lake Airport west runway goes right over my house in Kearns. I have airplanes at all hours of the day and night flying over from 500 feet up to about 2000 feet above my house. Airplanes coming from the north and the west turn right over my house.

I want a berm or a sound wall. I want the airport to supply my house with the means to deaden the sound and the vibration from these airplanes. I want the airport to move the glide path. I want this, I want that. Sound ridiculous? Yep it is.

I'll trade these fools houses any time they want. Using the "I'm in Carbon County taking care of a sick relative excuse" not to have input on where to put the station was just lame. Price is a whole hour and a half away from Highland. Geez, that's an easy drive to attend a meeting that has that much impact on their neighborhood and their lives.

How come no other neighbors were interviewed? I'm sure some of them are impacted also.

Nice attitudes folks. High school near me put in new lights for the football field and while it doesn't affect me, my neighbor can read in her living room at night. Without interior lights on. The city can't do whatever it wants.

Really they want the city to pay for it, Try closing your blinds. I live on a corner lot, Guess what I close my blinds at night, and I have planted trees and shrubs in my yard at my cost to filter light and noise from passing vehicles, Get over it allready.

I have an idea:

Why not PULL DOWN YOUR VENETIAN BLINDS that are obviously rolled up all the way, in the pictures?

I'll trade you that fire station (which gives you the cheapest homeowners insurance rates!), for the gravel pit on the mountainside behind us, and which we couldn't stop no matter how many neighbors went to the city and county.

Fire station: beneficial.
Mountainside gravel pit: ruinous forever, seen for miles.

I don't think these people are going to get any sympathy in this economic climate.

They missed the meetings so tough luck. They were caring for someone when ground was BROKEN, not when it was being planned.

Get darker curtains or put up some trees and quit whining.

From the picture I can see how the new station does indeed block a beautiful view of the canyon, that would upset me the most. Black out curtians? might as well since there's nothing to see now. I feel for these people but progress comes with good and bad, we have to take both, even if force fed.
I Have A Solution | 11:24 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Here's how to turn a disadvantage into an advantage:

Pump up the stereo with some good tunes and charge a small cover charge for the "Firehouse Disco Experience."

Then use the money to build your privacy fence.
Don't Blame Them | 3:05 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
I agree with the homeowners. They lived there 32 years, for crying out loud! Then comes the city and builds a mammoth fire station which, true, is for the public good. But do they really need to put obnoxious lighting on it at night? And to criticize the homeowners for "not speaking up at public hearings" about it is silly. How did they know how the fire station's lights would shine? They're not lighting physicists. Now that the city council can see how the fire station is impacting its neighbors, there needs to be a solution worked out without acrimony. Maybe landscaping is NOT the answer. Maybe the answer is, simply, to shut off the lights or use low-voltage lighting at night. Why does station need such bright exterior lighting at night anyway? Doesn't affect the fire trucks??

They lived there for 32 years. I guess they imagined that nothing would ever spoil the view. Perhaps they should have looked around and realized that every community in Utah has been growing wildly for the last 20 years. If they really wanted to protect their view, they should have made an offer on the land across the street.

Even if the owners went to the meetings, their voice against the city would have meant nothing. Pulling blinds down in which I am sure they do, does not rid the bright lights that seep through.

Look on the bright side, Dan... Or rather look at it as an insurance policy. At least you have the fire department right across the street from you, so your million dollar house doesn't burn to the ground.
