Respect

The key to parenting, for mothers and fathers, is respect. We need to be respectful when we disagree, when we are angry, and most importantly when we are in private conversation. When parents model respect to each other, children tend to follow their lead.

Most marriage problems that I have observed stem from a lack of respect within the marriage. Even when there are character flaws or other major challenges in a marriage, respectful marriages seem to work. Respectful spouses don't cheat, they don't lie, they call when they are late, they listen during a conversation, they don't committ major funds without consulting their partner, etc., etc.

If this book teaches in practical terms how to be respectful, it may be a good thing.
