A president who's office has tried, unsuccessfully, to censor unfavorable media lecturing on censorship.
nudged | 8:10 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Whenever a writer refers to Obama by saying he "nudged" this or that... it gives me the creeps.
Re: Irony | 8:11 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I was thinking the exact same thing. But hey... this isn't the first time has shown himself to be a hypocrite is it?

Considering that in China you would not be allowed to make those comments, I still think we have it pretty good.

A communist President lecturing communists about censorship? Oh, my goodness.

Conservative talk radio: Bad
Uncontrolled Internet in USA: Bad

China Regulating information: Bad

Offshore drilling in USA: Bad
Offshore drilling in Brazil: Good, heck, we will finance it.

Little wonder Obama wants to control the media.
Hey Honest Luke | 10:21 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Please explain how any of your personal freedoms have been repressed by this communist president.

Psst.... your ignorance is showing...

Since your so honest, please explain how we now have a "communist" president" Would it be that he pushed for unchecked wire taps? Or that you could put enemies of he country in jail without charge or trial? Our that his own administration outed their own agent when they voiced up to say the claims of WMD were not true...? Oh snap... that was the other president we just had.

I don't agree with all President Obama has to say or does.. but I find it very funny that now we complain he is pushing the Chinese on some issue and the red party starts mouthing up. Lets see, Republicans push for China to get most favored nation status all the while the Evil threat in Cuba should be cut off from the world... none of this stuff makes any sense. Cuba, the real threat? Common'!

First:

Have any of you ever been to China. They have a lot more freedom than we think.

Second: Their communist government is more successful at getting things done than our inept congressman with the bickering and back-biting.

Third: Obama has been 10 times more open than the secretive Bush administration. And refusing to cooperate with a biased and prejudiced news organization is not prior restraint or censorship, it is a legal and ethical procedure used by many, if not most politicians.

The only problem I have the Obama administration when it comes to media problems is his unwillingness to support a good shield law to allow reporters to hold the sources confidential.

If you are going to criticize mass media take a law class first.

The pettiness of Obamaphobes has become so drearily predictable.
Anonymous | 10:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I believe Obama represents what a true American believes. Maintaining our status as a major influence in the world, as using that influence to protect those who have no voice, such as the poor immigrants and poor classes of our own country, and the suppressed Chinese, those in Afghanistan who are terrorized by the Taliban, and the middle class Americans who were sold out by Wall Street with their masked low-interest mortgages, who need help getting back on their feet and demand more government regulation of our imperialized market.

this is good, if this succeeds we will be able to communicate with people in china a lot easier, this could help the economy if it works.
JoanneO | 10:53 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Interesting, Obama lectures the Chinese on an open free communications including criticisms of government while at the same time his administration is trying to suppress conservative criticisms.....I hope the Chinese can look beyond this hyprocrasy and do as he "says" not as he (Obama) does.
Isn't it a pity | 10:53 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Do as I say, not as I do.

Obama will go down as the most divisive President in US history since Abraham Lincoln. Obama is no Lincoln
Re: BobP  | 11:23 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I'm not sure about that. I was around during the Reagan years and remember the vicious rhetoric of both sides during his second term. Divisive.

I voted Republican from the time I was eighteen years old and after more than thirty years am still active in politics. The Bush presidency caused me to evaluate the principles of the current Republican Party and I subsequently voted for President Obama. I live in Colorado now and can tell you that a vast number of people here view Bush as the most divisive president in recent times. This state went blue for the first time in a generation following the Bush disaster.

The conservative whiners are out. Let me guess, you got your information on Obama by Fox News, the same outlet Obama has correctly characterized as not being a real news network.

I appears once reason you are played daily as fools of Fox is your ignorance of our government. What power does our government or president have to use to censor propagandist? None.

You fools are looking stupid today, as I have come to expect you to look.

It's a different culture, I guess. I hate being made a chump. Some of you seem comfortable being made chumps.
same old neocons  | 11:49 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
what a joke you all are you want to talk about hypocrasy lets talk about yuor own. First Fox can spew all the hate they want no one is stopinh them. Second where was your sense of outradge when Bush blacklisted reporters, third where was your outrage when bush hide information that should have been made public. you want to see hypocrasy in action look in a mirror.

that China owns a good chunk of America.

Conservatives couldn't sacrifice for the wars they supported by paying for them. Bush kept the cost of these wars off the books. Conservatives paid for two wars using credit from communist in China.

It great seeing a photo with Chinese who seem to admire an American leader. Obama shows the world that any race can become president in America. After two Bush president they may have thought you had to be born white and wealthy to be president.

For those who call Obama a communist, please wake up and stop regurgitating the thoughts of Hannity, Savage, Beck and Rush. Remember those guys are making multiple millions selling their books and fear mongering everyday on the radio. I've enjoyed their programs for years, but I don't believe everything they say. And for those of you bashers who were once Boy Scouts, don't forget the Scout Law, to be kind, to be a good citizens, Being a good citizen is about being civil, not bashing and taring down our civil servents who are trying to serve their country. And for you Mormons or just Christians, we're taught to have charity. That isn't just giving to the poor, its treating others with respect, including our political leaders. Bashing and calling Obama or Hillary, etc bad names, is juvinile and you smart DesNews readers ought to be above that.

just because barak hussein obama has failed to censor people from speaking out agaisnt him does not make his attempts right. i agree with those posters that it is ironic that he goes to china and lecture them on censorship, when he is trying to censor his own people. it would be the same as the chinese coming to america and talking about citizens working too much.

I was thinking the exact same thing. But hey... this isn't the first time has shown himself to be a hypocrite is it?

HOW DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK WITH THE CHINE PRESIDENT, WITH A GUN IN HIS HEAD? I THINK THAT IS NOT VERY HONEST TO SAY TOO MANY THINGS ABOUT THE CHINESE REGIME, BUT IS GOOD "TO HAVE YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER AND SEEING WHAT ARE THEY DOING"
Sad  | 2:13 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Obama cant expect China to ruin there economy like he has done here in America all because of Global warming. China is very prosperous as we once was before all these Global warming changes. The ruining OF THE AUTO INDUSTRY We will continue to lose jobs while Cap and trade drives more jobs to China. The coal industry will continue to lose jobs. I expect Hu leader of China to smile and go to the bank to lend us more money while his jobs increase and ours go down hill
Selling out America | 2:42 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Thanks to Obama China now owns more of America than any other country. Of course that should be fine since Obama's own communications secretary views mass murderer Mao as her biggest inspiration so at least we are owned by a country that produces such inspirational leaders as Mao!!! By the way, I smell another stimulus coming so we are about to go another trillion in debt to the Chinese. What me worry?? (Alfred E Newman)
Up and coming democrats | 2:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I see John Huntsman is viewed as one of the new up and coming democrats. Congratulations to former Gov huntsman!! Wait... Huntsman is still a registered republican isn't he??? Well that will soon change I'm sure. Being seen here with his hero - King Obama should bolster his image among liberals!!! Glad the guy is gone from Utah !!!!
@xscribe | 3:01 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
If you have to ask about the word "nudge", then you must only be getting your news from the Obama media, er' the MSM. Why should I have to tell you about the word "nudge", or about ACORN, or about SEIU? or any other underhanded, freedom grabbing way in which this administration wants to "fundamentally transform" America.
Huntsman | 3:11 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
As soon as Huntsman bought in on the global warming hoax, (notice how Obama refered to it as global climate change), I knew he was a marxist loving, freedom stealing leftist. I knew that he was not to be trusted or given power any longer. Then along came a commie president, and presto, he is now or rep for China. It is just another way to redistribute the wealth of America and give it to other, more deserving countries and people. "give them the wealth!!! Give them the wealth!!!"
The Day | 5:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Some day Obama will be the fascist ruler of America and he will use his supreme power to bash in the heads of all of you calling him a communist. That will show you!
Anonymous | 5:53 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Um... If you really want to blame someone for owning all of America, look no further than Alan Greenspan, one of Ayn Rand's own disciples. The real irony is that Rand hated communism with a passion that made her almost fascist. Imagine her grief realizing that one of her followers allowed a "communist" country to take up all of America's wealth. hahahaha
