Just an aside to this story. Not all prison guards were angry and abused prisoners. My father was a prison guard in Huntsville, Texas during the war and developed a great respect and liking for the men he guarded, some of whom he kept in touch with for decades afterward. Dad became Graves Registrar for the State of Utah, later head of the Military Records department. The headstones and memorials at the Fort Douglas cemetary for German POWs was one of his pet projects, and one he was very proud of. I just wanted to remember Robert W Inscore along with those whose memory he served.

Lovely goals

Peace and tolerance are worthy efforts. My sister and I were very impressed with Capt. Roth's remarks today. It was a touching ceremony.

Canada also received its share of German prisioners of war. We separated the SS and Nazi's from the others. The others were able to work out at mainly farm labor.

I arther nice story. Some of them married or lived with the daughters or widows. The last of such, who should have been back in Germany in 1945 was found happily running a large wheat farm in the mide 1960's. Married and happy.

My mother and father took turns driving a school bus full of German POW's everyday to work in the orchards. They told me the men were so polite, grateful to have work to do...and there were never any guards required to ride with them.
