Utah Jazz: Rookies had to grow up quickly
62 comments | Read story
What happened to Koufos and Fes. I thought that they had been playing better this year. Why no playing time?
Boozer is our best player when he wants to be.
Ronnie Price brings something to the game that Maynor doesn't so he may stay. Too bad it doesn't include scoring.
I dont care about the Boozer thing or the draft picks, those things will take care of themselves when the time comes. But I do care about these two guys that have shown so much promise. If the jazz mess this up or them up , it will do some serious damage to my loyalty.
Matthews is an unproven long term commodity. Miles has proven that after three seasons, he still has a way to go.
Burst your bubble? good grief.
Fesenko has:
* a huge defensive presence
* speed to stay with his man
* improved focus and attitude
* a very high basketball IQ -- he's not going to throw the ball away
* very good post moves
* GREAT hands -- Ostertag he's not
* HUGE SIZE to clog up the middle
We need interior defense. Fes has a +16 going for the year. I just don't get it.
Uh, how do you think they got their chance? The Jazz drafted Maynor and the Jazz scouted out Matthews and invite him to camp and gave him a shot and believed in him despite several guys, like Dupree, who were expected to get a chance for the roster spot before him.
Instead of criticizing the organization that gave these guys their opportunity and developing them to this point, you should just maybe give credit where credit is due.
These guys would not be here if it were not for the very organization who you insinuate would ruin them.
I never heard any of you guys pre draft saying we need Maynor and Matthews..but the Jazz organization picked/found them and here we are.
These rookies have some promising skillsets.
1. Price? Sorry but you are back to 3rd PG.
2.Ronnie Brewer? Sorry you don't defend well and you sure can't shoot. Matthews can and for a whole lot less money. Its been nice knowing you Brew.
This team is over the cap and Brewer is not worth what he is asking.
If all of the "regulars" would have played against the Cavs, the loss would have been by a lot more that 4 points. Keep the rookies in the line up. Let the "regulars" 'EARN' their spots back.
C.J.Miles - Wes Matthews - Price
Kirilenko - Brewer - Korver
Okur - Boozer - Milsap
Fess - Koufos - Okur
Trade list:
Boozer
Harpring
Korver
Kirilenko
Career
Miles- Pts. 5.9 - Reb. 1.7 - 3pt. 34% - FG% 44%
Matthews- Pts. 7.6 - Reb. 1.3 - 3pt. 46% - FG% 50%
Assist and steals are pretty much the same.
Matthews is a rookie. CJ has been in the league for 4 years. When is this day going to come when CJ lives up to the hype. All I am saying is Matthews is doing it now. In my opinion that is where the time and energy should be invested in hopes of him getting even better. I am not saying kick CJ to the curb , but for the love of all that is Sane in this world, Utah blow up your plan !!! We know your are attached to it , but the time has come to let it go....
Or we can keep waiting for these others guys.
You know I thought someone asked a good question the other day and I hate to say that it was Gordon Monson. But he asked "can we not question sloan or the organization around here?" I mean can we not ??
Matthews is older than Miles. Miles has a lot more upside than Matthews. I've been impressed with Matthews and quite a bit disappointed with Miles (I'm hoping I'm wrong) but Miles is going to get Matthew's minutes.
To "Love Jerry"
Your list of attributes for Fesenko isn't that realistic.
How can you say he has a high basketball IQ and isn't going to throw the ball away? It took him two years to adjust from Euroball. You really think he has a higher basketball IQ than Memo? Memo has played on a championship team and has been an All-star. Fesenko isn't all that quick either. I appreciate seeing Fesenko try to score in the post, but so far it has been ugly. He throws up hook shots that look more like prayers. Carlos Boozer has very good post moves, Paul Millsap (as of this year) has very good post moves. When has Fesenko ever shown that he has very good post moves?
Sloan has been right with rookies thus far in his career.
The only guy that I can remember not getting any minutes who turned into something (not much though) is Carlos Arroyo, but he was sitting behind John Stockton and Mark Jackson. Kris Humphries might turn into a player, but it has taken years.
Morris Almond, Dee Brown, Roger Powell, Robert Whaley, Kris Humphries, Sasha Pavlovic...
I have been impressed with Matthews. I love how he takes it to the basket and actually looks like an NBA shooter (Miles did not impress me all that much last year.) But I still take Miles over Matthews.
Listing career numbers is ridiculous. Miles had 3 years where he didn't play and that hurts his averages. Miles looked good at the scrimmage, he has put in a lot of hard work and I just want all you Matthews fans to be prepared when he gets sent down to the Flash this year.
Okur is one of the best 10 centers in the league. Fesenko wasn't even one of the best 10 centers in the D-league last year.
list.
We need help at the two spot and I recollect that we let two players go a few years back that are still starting and scoring well for their team.
Mo Williams
Raja Bell
How much were they asking before they left? In hindsight, in might have been worth it to sign them instead of letting them go.
Yeah he did not so much now
Offensively Matthews know how to take it to the hole and drew a foul. Matthew gets to the line 15% percent of his shots this season and Miles last season went to the line 7% - Neither gets to line like a great wing player should - See AK 27%, James 23%, Pierce 23% Roy 31% and even Turk how is mostly a jump shooter get to the line 19%) But Miles is HORRIBLE. Even Korver went to the line 11% - That is Sad.
Last season even though AK, Korver and Miles took about the same amounts of shots (AK took 570 Korver took 560 and miles took 552 shots) - AK took 222 more foul shots and Korver took 38 more foul shots.
Matthew has an adjusted field goal percentage of 57% while miles highest was 51.5% last season. Now Matthews will not maintain a 57% AFG. I will bet Matthews and Miles will have about the same AFG this season - meaning they are both good shooter.
Defensively:
Matthew has this season taken a charge, rotated correctly to stop the opposing player - I have yet to seen Miles EVER do this.
It has been nice knowing Ronnie Brew. He is a good kid............... But he is no Wes Mathews!
It smells like a spilled Brew.
We need to reinstate prohibition....No Booz & No Brew in SLC!
You clearly haven't isolated watching him this year. He makes great decisions.
You really think he has a higher basketball IQ than Memo?
I never said his BBIQ > Memo. I said it's high, and his other attributes more than make up.
-- Memo has played on a championship team.
Brilliant. He warmed the bench.
-- He has been an All-star.
After everyone else couldn't make it.
-- Fesenko isn't all that quick either.
Again, another case of you not watching him. He's much quicker than Memo.
-- I appreciate seeing Fesenko try to score in the post, but so far it has been ugly. He throws up hook shots that look more like prayers.
The hook is NOT the only thing he has tried. He has quick moves for layups that he's been very effective with. How else do you explain his .600 shooting percentage?
And have you ever seen how well he clogs up on D? Memo is a friggin sieve in comparison.
Mo Williams got minutes as a rookie.
DeShawn Stevenson still sucks. Last year he asked to stop starting.
I still say CJ Miles worked his butt off this summer and may turn some heads when he comes back.
That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing him or Brewer get traded for someone good (and we keep Matthews)
Let's think about it. CJ has a contract next year. Brewer has nothing. Nor does Matthews or Korver. Who do you think will be here next year!
Nice job. Actually he is one of the worst..he can never keep his man in front of him which is job #1 for the Jazz perimeter given the fact we have the two sissies Boozer and Okur guarding the paint.
The coaches constantly complain about Prices perimeter D..he has terrible technique and won't learn.
re: Houdini
"All these kids need and I`m including Fes and Koufos are minutes, and I mean tough minutes with the games on the line."
Uh, the game won't be on the line if you are playing these two alot of minutes. Koufus is INCESSANTLY LOST in the offense. He also does not help well on defense because he only played zone at Ohio State.
I agree it would be nice to have these bigs get minutes but the reality of it is if you want to win they are not ready. Sure they can give spot minutes, and should, here and there but consistently playing would leave us seriously offensively depleted.
I'm glad most of you are only in charge of your fantasy teams and not the Jazz.
Good grief.
Uh, Raja signed with the Suns to play with Steve Nash. He would have never signed with the Jazz even if we would have offered the same money. Besides, signing him would have put us over the cap and now we would have an aging Bell with a big contract. Raja chose to play for Nash it was not that the Jazz did not want him--they simply could not afford what he got offered nor do I believe he was worth the contract he got.
MO Williams was wanted by the Jazz also but simply could not be afforded due to financial circumstance. Besides, they sign him then we don't have Deron Williams right now.
Lets call it like it is.
Yeah!
