Seeing I'm the first comment here,
Congrats to REAL SL for doing a great job this season!
And I'm way excited for the Cup game this weekend!

GOOD LUCK!

To be honest i think everyone just expected rsl to be a awlk in the park.. I still dont think we're bein respected around the league.. Im predicting rsl will come out on fire and put LA on their heels early.. 3-0 rsl at halftime and 3-2 final.

Funny how after a fantastic game, The DesNews still tries to put down the team and the game. This wasn't a story about how they won, but how they didn't lose...very unprofessional journalism. I'd expect that from the Trib, but not here.

GO RLS!!!
Theatre | 8:27 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I think there will be a lot of drama in the championship due to fake injuries. Yes, the acting will take center stage and would make Shakespeare proud. The game will end in a tie and all the players will enjoy orange slices and Capri Suns afterward. None of the spectators will notice because they will all be asleep.

I love Will's scathing remarks. Go RSL!!
el guanaco | 9:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
i agree. i thought chicago would be a lot more dangerous than they were. we looked much better offensively...and i don't think our frontline played particularly well.

will is the man. he had a fantastic match...played all-out for 120 minutes.

"theatre" should go back to his usual pastime... trolling on myspace.

not a huge soccer fan, but i like to keep up on every team from utah. it seems to me that rsl will be the best team in utah this year. if you want proof, who else will win a conference championship? not my beloved utes or byu. usu? wsu? suu? dixie? jazz? grizz? maybe snow? good job real salt lake
Cheers! | 10:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Here's to RSL hopefully bring home the FIRST professional championship title to Utah. I specificy Professional because if I don't all the BYU Fans living in the past will remind me of their national championship in '84.
Anonymous | 10:39 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Remember the early season hype? RSL expected to do well, an early favorite to win the west. Looks like the early predictions were mostly right. We're where everyone thought we would be before the season started.

Way to go RSL!

Can't the championship game end in a tie so nobody gets their feelings hurt? No more winners or losers is the beautiful promise that soccer gives us. It should be the official sport of Obama's amerika just like it is in so many other wonderful communist countries.
Big Al | 11:09 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Cheers, maybe you are too young to remember the Utah Stars winning ABA (American Basketball Association) champoinship. That was a professional title.
Juvenile | 11:34 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
@Theatre and Hope and Change, I'm not much of a soccer fan either, but I'd hope for at least some level of originality if you're going to bash the sport. Orange slices and communism are the two oldest soccer jokes in the books.
re:Hope and change | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Good grief man! Pull your head out and enjoy the fact that there will be people watching a team from Utah compete on the highest level of a professional sport. Leave the political ranting to your private conversations with Mr. Beck and let the rest of us enjoy a newspaper without your kind.
Anonymous | 12:04 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I beleive that the bees have won a Minor league title and the grizzlies have also won a title or two. They are not the top league in either case but still professional teams.
nerves | 12:13 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
guys like theater are on here every day because they know soccer fans are easily provoked when it comes to critisism of our sport. They know that all they have to write is "orange slices", and they will get 20 angry responses to their post. Cheap entertainment at its best. Just ignore them and write what you would like to write about.
Good luck in Seattle RSL, I hear the crowd is going to be big. Everyone likes to pull for the little guy, so get the crowd on your side early and bring home the cup.
awesome | 12:16 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I love the trolls now more than ever. They make me smile so much bc of the awesome things they say!

Here is to Utah having a Team in a Championship game. Period. Its time all Utahns get behind RSL!
Soccer Rules... | 12:21 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
but not near as good as the NFL. Let's go put on some pads so we don't get hurt. Make sure we have timeouts and breaks cause I get tired. After the game, forget orange slices, let's go hit the club, cause I'm packing heat. We won by three touchdowns, 21 points it was over in the first quarter, no drama, no chance to come back with just one shot.

Welcome to Obamerica, where bailouts and overspending is our mantra, we are the NFL.

Soccer Rules.
nope | 12:25 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The game cant end in a tie.. Ties are not about everyone going home happy.. Its about not giving one team a win on a free throw shoot out.. I bood rsl off the field everytime they tied at home this year.. Why? because in the mls rsl should absolutely win every home game..

One more thing.. I dont think soccer haters realize who they are attacking.. I for one am part of the muss and have attended every utah home game this year... My favorite sport to watch is football, my favorite sport to play is soccer..
Cheers RE | 12:29 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
RSL will not be the first Professional Championship, The Golden Eagles won many championships and so did the Grizz the first year 95. I am sure the minor league baseball team won a few times, Even tough U of U did not win the national championship in 04 and last year, that was huge , alot bigger than if RSL Wins. I hope they do, i just get tired of all the soccer fans trying to justify everything about MLS. Go RSL and win who cares about the soccer haters
psychoman | 12:36 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
keep it comin guys.. The more comments the more coverage.

I have heard the communist and orange slice bashes so many times that it just makes me laugh. ho ho boy(or girl) has made it routine to be unoriginal and repetitive. The extremeists like to make themselves look bigger than they really are.. Most people arent anti soccer just a few crazy extreme personalities..

keep it comin haters, lets hear something new for once!
agreed | 12:41 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The fact that people get so defensive about it just feeds the haters. let it go! Embrace who you are and agree to disagree.

Its not like a few people posting on the internet makes any difference about anything anyway.
thank you DN | 12:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I appreciate your coverage of rsl all season long. Thanks Rock, Donaldson, edwards and anyone else who writes for rsl.. Just one more win rsl! Make it 5 straight
Carpe diem!!!! | 1:56 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Salt Lake City wants to be honored by every dictator-run 3rd world country as the best soccer city in the U.S. Don't waste your chance to do it!
Chadders | 2:05 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Fedor was right, this is our year. I was suprised Chiacgo came out so defensively. Blanco makes more than our starting 11 for sure and they don't really use him to attack? If I were a Fire fan I would have booed them off the field at every break.
I'm excited about our chances next week. LA has very sloooooow defenders and have troubles with speedsters like Findley, Yura, Espy. I think we will take it to them and keep our pefrect away record in the playoffs. Just 6 more days now.
KC | 2:23 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
My educated guess is that most (perhaps all) of the soccer bashers that show up in these comment sections have never played the game. In fact, I'm all but certain that most aren't actually capable of playing the game. Personally, I'd prefer they save their negative comments until after they've put down their 64 oz. sodas and super-size bags of chips and run for a solid 90 minutes.
RSL  | 2:58 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
They still have a team? Cool. Good luck in the "who cares cup" or final.... or whatever it is called.

It is still Soccer which is a recreation and not technically a sport.
Aker | 3:11 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Re: RSL | 2:58 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009 - not technically a sport? Even you know that is just silly. It is the world's most popular sport. It is more physically demanding than any team sport I've ever seen played professionally in the USA. I'd like to see a fat American football player run for 90 minutes!

American football is a fringe sport like Sumo or ice dancing. Real football is the world's game.
re: Aker | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Ballet is way more physically demanding than any professional sport, but that doesn't mean I care about it.

If soccer is the world's game, you're free to go get excited about it in a different country. Americans don't care about soccer!

I cannot wait for this Sunday. I have been waiting for 5 years to see my team play for the MLS Cup. I think that RSL matches up well with LA. Keep Beckham and Donovan in check, and we should be fine.
Jim | 4:17 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Yes, Americans dont care about soccer. That's why there's a soccer-specific stadium in UTAH haha...oh you guys kill me. What are you knuckle-draggers so afraid of?

Congrats to RSL, a lot of us Revs fans are pulling for you (after you knocked out the hated Fire).
The Truth | 4:36 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
All these ignorant people running their mouths about soccer obviously have no idea what they're talking about. So let me help you idots out. First off, before you start popping your mouths off on how "soccer isn't technically a sport" I want you to think of so-called sports like Golf and NASCAR. Now that might be a good argument for not being sports. As for soccer its more of a sport than Golf, NASCAR, Horse Racing and Baseball, yeah I said it BASEBALL!!! Second off, you might want to stop and think before you say that Americans don't like soccer, because as I recall more americans watched the 06 World Cup than the 06 World Series. So if you want to keep running your mouths and looking foolish, I'll just keep correcting you.
georg | 6:09 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Ho Ho boy has been busy the last few days! He has been pulling out all his old classics. Bottom Line,
RSL is in the final, Soccer is the worlds sport, and Ho Ho boy must really be pissed to be spending so much energy on this. Also goes to show how boring his life really is.
Aker | 6:13 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Re: re: Aker - Last time I checked this is a free country and I'll exercise my rights to be a fan of whatever sport I want whenever I want to. People like you who have no perspective beyond the Maverick Station at the end of the street can't tell me where I 'can be excited' about real football.

There are millions, yes MILLIONS of Americans who play real football. Don't be so ignorant as to think Americans don't like the sport.

I can see why the US ranks 24th out of 26 industrialized countries in education! Sheesh! What we need is MORE soccer fans who tend to be more educated and well travelled than fans of other sports.

South Africa 2010 - The World's Biggest Sporting Event!!
Jim has this one right ... | 8:32 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
if there wasn't any interest in Soccer, Americans wouldn't be pouring millions of dollars into soccer specific stadiums.

Take a drive through any new community, you'll see soccer fields. Not just one field -- lots of them.

Like it or not, Soccer is an American sport -- and one that is rapidly growing.

Chadders and REAL loyalists, family, friends"

You beat me to it.

Tonight I was going to express my thoughts and so "happy" you thought of it also.

Chadders: I can tell you follow other teams/

I watch the Galaxy living here often.

YES!!!! teams that give the BACK 4 problems are players supporting strikers or striker playing the wings running down the side wide with pace. These players hurt the Galaxy. Also, they are not great dealing with crosses into the box.

Fundamentally, very solid team defense more than great individual defenders/ I agree control Donovan and smother him. Teams give him too much freedom. Make others beat you. Buddle is good but erratic have to watch for him rather starter/sub

Alan Gordon is a good runner/hustler and at times puts himself in good positions to score.

You have to run at the them especially Dunnivant and Berhalter who may come off the bench. Franklin and De Lagarza bring youth but inexperience; Franklin is pretty good.

Where you take this game is controlling midfield, do not give Beckham time to pass. possess[possess

Kirovski works but one dimensional. Old team. Lewis/magee/Birchall//klein

all can be exposed

token european | 10:00 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I went to watch the NFL match at Wembley stadium a couple of moths ago to see what all the hoohah was about.

It was so boring I actually fell asleep just before half-time and I can't even remember what teams played or what the score was.

The players all looked the same wearing that body armour, they couldn't change direction and there was less ball movement than in a game of rugby. If a pro sport needs distractions (like cheerleaders) to keep the crowd interested then it can't be taken seriously.

I love most sports, but I can't understand any reason for the life of me why people waste their time on American Football let alone pay for the pleasure.

OTOH I can name most of the RSL squad from memory and look forward to attending a match in Sandy when I visit Utah next year (hopefully in the champions league). I watched the playoffs on TV here and from what I've seen they've been rocking!

When (not if) the USA has multiple divisions and gets its next world cup it will be a serious world league.
Rob | 12:17 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
@token european..

I had no idea that game was broadcast internationally. That is great.
