Maaco bowl game... good grief!

Enjoy the Las Vegas Maaco bowl you Ute fans. I love how you all put it down for the last several years and now looks like thats where your going.
loose moose | 8:14 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Where are all the loud mouth ute fans now? Guess their all busy scraping the red vinyl letterings out of their geo metro's windows. I have never seen a more pathetic looking ranked team than these clowns. San Diego has got to be licking their chops knowing that they get to play him.

Sigh | 8:26 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
It must have been cold there in our shadows Coog fans.

And to think we don't have the senior QB who was scheduled for the National Championship after Oklahoma.
sunshineute | 8:28 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
To Loose Moose,
Um, let's see, BYU 7, TCU 38 on your home turf, with a veteran QB, and we have a true freshman? Why can't it be enough that even the Utah players acknowledge that TCU is good, and is where they are for a reason. You barely beat New Mexico!!!!
Like I have said before, you can come and see our BCS bowl trophies anytime, and when you play at TCU next year you can see theirs as well. Keep wishing!!
Go UTES, and Go TCU, show em the MWC is for real!!!
No more talk about BCS | 8:44 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Hey Utes, it's not fun talking about your showing in Texas. Bad mouth the Cougars and tell us how great the Vegas Bowl will be.
Thanks for a good laugh | 9:03 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Hey don't worry about the big blowout loss yoot fans. SDSU is next and they're more your speed anyway so the TCU game will soon seem like a distant nightmare. Anyway, thanks for posting all those ridiculous predictions about beating TCU. You gave us all a lot of good laughs! Silly yoot fans!
Knowledgeable Utah Fan | 9:05 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
If we could play TCU again this week we'd beat them. We were the better team, they just got lucky.
Ute4Now | 9:08 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
I have some Utah football tickets available if anyone is interested. Also, anybody wnat to buy my season tickets for men's basketball? Anyone?
Funny | 9:12 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
You can tell how much this hurts Ute fans. All they can do is refer to LAST YEAR to ease the pain.

Like this articles says: the Utes got humiliated and go back to SL with their tails between their legs.
No Worries | 9:36 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
2004 was our year. 2008 was our year. 2009 looks to be TCU's year. I say good for the Frogs. Anyway, TCU's success is helping the MWC -- which benefits all of the teams in the conference.

Sure, I'd like to see the Utes get to a better post-season bowl -- but you can't expect to make the BCS every year. I'm still looking plenty forward to watching the last three games.

Go Utah!
Re: Funny | 9:12 p.m.  | 9:47 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
I don't understand why you are trashing the Utes. BYU was lucky to get out of UNM with a win...or maybe you didn't notice.
In Hindsight | 10:02 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
It looks like Vegas gave Utah too much respect ... giving them ONLY 20 points wasn't enough. hahahahaha
Wynn is awesome | 10:34 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
For him to throw those bombs down field in his 2nd game... amazing!!!
Ute Season Ticket Holder | 10:45 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Hey, I'll pay you to take my Utah tickets from me.
Bill | 10:49 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Utah and BYU are both top notch football programs. TCU is at the end of a decade long reclamation of its program. As a long suffering frog fan, this season has been a blessing. If your programs were not what they are victories like Saturday’s would not be so sweet. Strong teams make a strong conference. You Ute and Cougar fans need to step back from the cliff.
Realist | 10:52 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Its clear that the Utes are finally back to normal.....just like in the 80-90's....they lay an egg at home to Wyo and NM and get spanked by TCU...I mean SPANKED 35-7 Halftime......

Get use to it Utes....its going to be along decade of disappointment for you!! But then again...your use to it!
Keeping Real | 11:16 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
The Utes beat TCU last year and they beat us this year. We still have the winning record against them and with a majority of our team back next year and playing at home we will have a good chance to win. And also keeping it real, BYU is irrelevant. The rivalry in the conference is Utah vs TCU. BYU will never achieve this level of competition. In fact, they should swap places with Boise State in the WAC.

Now that is a realist outlook.

Go UTES
Re: Keeping Real | 11:47 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
The correct realist outlook shows Utah slipping back to being mediocre at best. You have 1 ... yes that would be 1 ... good season under Kyle and you think your team is world beaters. How will you feel when you finish this season with 4 straight losses or at best, one win (SDSU) and 3 losses ?
Whit | 11:59 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
"We have to coach better, play better and compete better," Whittingham said. "Those are things that we will address this week."

Sounds remarkably similar to what Bronco said after BYU's meltdown against the Frogs.

One thing is certain, this TCU team is the best team in the history of the MWC.
well | 12:20 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I actually was encouraged by some aspects of the game. Any Utah fan who has watched the games this year deep down knew that this was a rebuilding year, and they weren't very good. The only reason I felt hopeful was because Wynn was an unknown. We'd seen what Cain was capable of, and he wouldn't have been able to put together a single scoring drive against TCU. Wynn looked new and made a couple freshman mistakes, but he's about 100 times more poised and talented than Cain ever looked. Having him start now for the long haul can only mean good things for the U.

The defense scared me though, I didn't expect TCU to look that much faster than the defense.

I also watched the BYU - New Mexico game. Utah won't have a problem with them, even in Provo. Two losses to BCS bound teams and the Las Vegas Bowl in a rebuilding year? Actually, pretty amazing.

Sad though that the MWC bowl contracts result in such ridiculous opponents (5th, 6th place pac 10 teams... Here's hoping TCU gets a shot at the title... and not just Georgia Tech.
Mack | 12:37 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I love the gloating BYU fans in here talking smack about how Utah lost to a team that slaughtered BYU in BYU's own stadium just a few weeks ago. The margin of victory for TCU in both games was about the same. Toput it as politely as possible, I'd say BYU fans are suffering from collective amnesia.
THEeyepatch | 1:16 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I guess you BYU fans forgot they beat you down in your own back yard. That Florida St. loss has got to sting a bit eh? Remember, the ONLY reason BYU is even in the to 25 is because teams helped them out by losing. BYU even dropout of the rankings for a week. BYU just barely squeeked by winless New Mexico, BYU cannot play that bad against the Air Force Academy this coming week. Fans of BYU, why did you create such a high horse for yourselves? BYU... your still in the rear view, you should be happy just to be there.
Loudmouth Ute fan | 1:26 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
At least we didn't get crushed at home like YBU zoobies..i recall the story to be similar, I am a loudmouth Ute fan and Im gonna be loudmouthin again in 2 weeks when we squeeze out of L.Edwards stadium with a W. As I recall we were the first to score a touchdown in TCU's stadium this season.
To Bill | 4:46 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Thanks for that message...I wish these silly Y and U fans would stop. Nothing against Utah but I really wanted TCU to win this. I don't like bsu would love nothing more then to see them lose...anyway, I knew if TCU won the game, then they would be in that BCS game and not bsu. For the conference, this is the best case scenerio. Job well done TCU. Now to my fellow Cougs....c'mon guys...stop the sillyness.
Anonymous | 6:00 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Hey BYU fans, we may not have beat TCU, but that team down south is still yet to come. Regardless, a Las Vegas Bowl against a strong #4 PAC-10 team in USC would be a great showcase in the Bowl season.
Jen | 6:29 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Hmmm. I agree that having a freshman QB will be great for Utah in the coming years. He's getting a lot of experience and he will only get better. BYU is the better team this year....unless Max Hall continues to ruin it for them. Utah just isn't that good this year. BYU is stronger, faster, smarter, and all around better when they want it. Go Cougars!
jakeatmis | 7:03 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU is a great team and as much as I wanted the Utes to win, it was better for the MWC and our chances to become an automatic qualifier conference to have TCU win.

The Utes didn't give up, unlike the team down south and lost by less on TCU's field than the team down south did on their own field. In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year that most experts thought would yield only 8 wins the Utes will go 10-2, and win their bowl game. 11-2 withe the two losses coming to the PAC10 champ and a top 4, possibly top 3 team is a great season by any measure.

Go Utes!
bunch of babies | 7:17 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Utah fans keep coming back with at least we did this or at least we did that.. boo hoo ute fans!

I CANT BELIEVE ANY UTE FANS EXPECTED TO WIN THIS GAME!
at least the y knows where they stand!
RE:Loudmouth Ute Fan | 7:30 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Congrats on scoring the first touchdown in the stadium! That is awesome! All of us Cougar fans are in absolute freakin' awe of that! Really, I would hang my hat on that too because it means so much! The national media and audience were going non-stop about how you guys scored in the stadium. Not a word was mentioned about the beatdown. It was all about scoring a touchdown. Of all the things said on this thread, that is the only thing that we can't combat. I mean being the first... that's as good as National Championship. Keep those standards high and keep shutting us up with such excellent points.
U  | 7:39 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
should have lost at least three more games so far, SJSU, Air Force and WYOMING for example. You have the worst 2 loss team in America at any level.
Anonymous | 7:56 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The LV bowl gets the 5th place team from the PAC10.

BYW I heard a great acroynm combo over the weekend. TDS vs. UD. TDS could be UVU, SUU, Snow, Dixie State, or even BYU but what is a good fit is that there is only one University of Deseret, founded by Brother Brigham in the 1850's.

BTW 2. This was not a rebuilding year for UD. Ask Coach Whit. This is a very sad misnomer. With an easy schedule of 8 gimme wins and only tough games with Oregon, Air Force, TCU and BYU, everyone seemed to be thinking 9 to 10 wins all along.

BTW 3. Oregon may not be the PAC10 Champ - the loss to Stanford really hurt their prestige and lock on the Rose Bowl. They now must be Arizona in Tucson and Oregon State in the grudge game to secure the Bowl Game. They are also relagated to a lesser BCS standing because of the two losses.
Game | 8:07 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Very strange game. I did not expect TCU to put up 55, and thought that if Utah could get to 28 they would be in the game until the end.

Utah looked shell-shocked the entire first quarter. Our D has given up points on almost every 1st possession this year, so that was no big surprise. But the Reed fumble was killer. Sure they missed the FG, but momentum was in their favor too early. The TD to tie it at 7 was nice, but the D just couldn't hold TCU down. Too many penalties and it looked like TCU knew exactly where Utah defenders would be and had a hat on them early, especially the outside run.

Was impressived with Wynn. Kid is tough. Took numerous hits, and did it without fumbling. He was one of the few players who never looked wide-eyed. He's going to be very good.

8-2 with a freshman QB, and almost 60% of the roster either FR/SO, I'll take it. Especially with 3 tough road games on the schedule.
Reality | 8:07 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Utes took a beat down in Texas no doubt. With a freshman QB and and a junior RB who may lead the conference next year the future looks bright. I picked Utah to be no better than 8-2 now with two road losses to BCS Bowl teams. The Utes still have a fine season going. lets hope TCU goes lights out the rest of the year and loses a slew of players to the NFL. Next year when you come to Salt City you better be ready because it'll be payback time and Whitt doesn't forget beatdowns. Don't choke now Frogs, it's about time someone from The MWC besides Utah gets a BCS bowl win. Zoobies obviously can't.
re: 7:56AM | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Not a rebuilding year? Come on Cougar fan, facts are facts. 60% of the Utah roster is FR/SO, including out starting QB. Almost 90% of our offense from last year graduated, and the other 10% gone down with Asiata. Young kids playing everywhere.

Easy Schedule? Really? Road games @ Oregon (#11), TCU (#4) and BYU (#22). FYI - BYU also plays the same schedule as Utah, except they had TCU and Utah at home. Much easier. And lets not discuess the OU game, a team whose lost half their offense to injury. And FSU, who is barely .500 in the ACC. Much easier schedule. BYU's SOS is currently 103, Utah's 90.

Oregon will win the Pac-10. And outside of TCU, are clearly the best team Utah or BYU has faced all year. They'll be in a BCS game, while FSU and OU are fighting to be bowl eligible!
SlickFrog | 8:41 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Ute Fans - I know you're reeling from this Saturday, but that kid Wynn is going to be a special QB. He held on to the ball too long and made a few "hero" throws he shouldn't have attempted.....all freshman mistakes. But that kid will be fantastic once he gets the experience necessary to improve his decision making. Our QB Andy Dalton was the same way when young. VERY skilled but made poor decisions a bit too often to be a great offense. As a Junior he has really blossomed and now they have a GREAT offense. That's because experience has given him poise and confidence. Wynn will have that too.

You have a lot to look forward to. The rivalry with Utah, BYU and TCU will be fantastic over the next few years.
Limp on!!! | 8:41 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Limp on to the "Who Cares Bowl" Utes!!! You are no good. What good team have you beaten? Limp on to mediocrity...
re: re: 7:56am | 8:59 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Man, u are just full of EXCUSES for yootah, aren't u? That's how we know you are a true yootah fan because that's their m.o.

That's just TOO FUNNY. Prior to the TCU game all we were hearing from yoot fans was "It's not a rebuilding year! We're REALLY GOOD and what we have going now is a dynasty with great depth loaded with speedy athletes!" And so now that u got BLOwN OUT by TCU all of a sudden you're crying "What do you expect? It's a rebuilding year for us!!"

Typical yoot fan, you're always going to try to spin it in your favor and try to have it both ways. U guys remind me of a bunch of politicians.
Come on Ute Fans | 9:05 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
You guys crucify BYU when they lose, remember, don't dish it out if you can't take it. If you're going to tease BYU fans with losses to FSU and TCU, expect it to come back when you get blown out by TCU.

Anyway, it's nothing to stress too much about, TCU is an absolute juggernaught this year. BYU and Utah are good teams this year, TCU is GREAT. Looking forward to the awesome match ups over the next few years with these three teams.

Dave | 9:09 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
After reading all the petty comments from you Zoobies it's no wonder you are the most hated program in the country.

Face the facts: We both got our butts handed to us by a far superior team in TCU. There are no moral victories in either of our losses so it's time you shut up until Nov. 28th.
Utah | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Well I guess we always have are basketball team to fall back on. What's that, we got rocked at at home by the mighty Idaho Vandals. Well everyone knows that it is also a rebuilding year in basketball as well. Rebuilding means we will be good in 2012. go Obama, go Utes
re: Limp on!!! | 9:19 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
You mean the bowl that BYU has been to the last 4 years?

FYI - I know Cougar fans don't worry about stupid things like facts, but lets give it a try.

SOS:
Utah 90
BYU 103

Who plays nobody?

Computer component of BCS rankings:
Utah 0.23
BYU 0.01

BYU has the lowest computer ranking component of any BCS ranked team. Just below Houston.

Utah has 2 losses, on the road against top 10 teams. BYU has 2 losses, at home, to a top 5 team and a team near the bottom of the ACC standings. Not even close whose losses are better.

I will give BYU credit for having a slightly better win. OU is at least bowl eligible, and a little better than Air Force.

The facts don't lie.
TCU CREAM UTES | 9:19 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Remember when the Utes considered it a winning season if they were 6-5 and beat BYU...?

Guess what....those years ARE BAAACCCKKK!!

TO THE CLUELESS | 9:25 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Dear Knowledable Ute Fan. You truly demonstrate that a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. Lucky, my foot, they just plain whipped you. Even though the Y never scored 28 points their defense held TCU to only 38 points. Your defense allowed 55. WOW!!!

Dear Sunshine Ute: You can come and see our National Championship Trophy. Where is yours?

Dear Anonymous. Yes, Brigham Young founded what eventually became Utah. But the Church got smart and unloaded it on the state.

Dear Keeping Real: If that is realism then you have been hitting the bottle a little too much each night.

Dear Jakeatmis: Our defense sure didn't let them score 55 points either.

Dear Eyepatch: Are you suffering from amnesia also. Utah was out of the rankings for a week also.

Sure are a bunch of inane comments from both sides.
re: 8:59AM | 9:27 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Here are the facts, not that Cougar fans understand things like that!

Utah
8-2. Starting a true freshman at QB. Road games @ Oregon, TCU and BYU. 1 top-5 team, 1 top-10 team, and 1 top 25-team. Lost every offensive weapon from last year, except Reed and Asiata, who played in 3 games before being injured for the year. Will have back their QB, RB, some WR's, and 4 OL. Lost by 7 @ Oregon, got beat badly @ TCU.

BYU
8-2. 5 year Senior QB. All tough games at home. Lost to FSU, who is 3-4 in the ACC, by 30 at home. Also beaten badly by TCU, but in LES. Loses their QB, likely their RB, both TE's. Will be starting either a kid who can't throw (Nelson) or a true freshman (Heaps) next year at QB.

Please explain who either of those is spin? Just facts.
re: TCU cream utes | 9:29 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Utah 8-2
BYU 8-2

Win over BYU for Utah would be nice, especially with a freshman QB. Getting to 10 wins following up a BCS game would be huge.

Win over Utah for BYU would maybe salvage their season. Senior QB, all tough games at home, and no BCS. Having 3 losses before the bowl game would be devastating.

So who does that game mean more too?
Nice Job TCU!!! | 9:31 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Go and take it to whoever you end up playing. TCU had it this year and the Utes and Goobers didn't. Goober fans, have some class and stick your foot in your mouth before you speak. The Utes will take the bowl game they earn and win it, something you should take note of.

We will be back next year with a solid, experienced team, ND on the road and TCU and BYU in our house. I smell another BCS year.

Go UTES!!!!
THEeyepatch | 9:36 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
RE:Limp on!!! What team have you beaten, think before you talk smart guy. Oklahoma is not even in the top 25 as of today. Wait you shutout Wyoming, nevermind, BYU is the better team since Wyoming will be playing Alabama for the National Championship... um.... wait.... I mean since you won a National Championship 25 years ago against 6-5 Michigan team. Pathetic, no matter what bowl the UTES play in, just beating BYU will suffice for me. See ya on the 28th!
Ute and Cougar babies | 9:48 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Seems like to me the state of Utah has a bunch of babies as sports fans. It was better for everyone to have TCU DESTROY both BYU and the Utes. MWC will be that much closer to being an AQ conference for the BCS.
The funny thing is that both teams are having similar seasons. Both teams aren't as good as they think they are but they are still very solid teams. Now it will be a battle in two weeks for the #2 spot in the conference. I would have said BYU will win for sure, but they have surprised us this year by winning on the road and losing at home... (I'm a cougar fan).
How about everyone grow up a little and wait to talk trash until after the rivalry game? Anything beforehand (given the outcome of the season so far) just sounds like a bunch of out of control kids.
MW Conf needs help | 9:53 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The Mountain West Conference needs to add Boise State and dump some of these useless teams to be actually considered for the BCS. The Mountain West can't even have enough teams bowl eligible to fill their commitments to bowl games. The Mountain West teams come up with useless slogans like "Quest for Perfection" and such. Get real! You will never be considered by the BCS because your conference is not BCS quality. Go PAC 10 a REAL football conference!
