In really the only poll that counts....Utah is still ahead of BYU. Air Force is licking its chops....
Utah man am I | 6:50 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Yeah, look at that! Utah still ahead of BYU. Look for that gap to widen next week and for BYU to drop completely out at the end of the season after being stomped by the Utes!!!
Stuck? | 6:54 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
TCU is fortunate to be 4th, coming from a weak conference. There is no comparison between the top three and TCU.

Looking forward to Texas vs Florida, Tebow vs McCoy. The best two teams by far.

re: bigutefan  | 6:57 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Why does the BCS poll matter to either BYU or Utah? We aren't going to a BCS bowl.

Air Force may be licking their chops... but Utah is licking their wounds.
Jim | 7:46 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
TCU stayed the same in the polls because they played the utes. Not much of a test.
Eastcoast Egghead | 7:51 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
"Stuck" is completely wrong. In my completely non-biased computer analysis (a massively recursive artificial intelligence web), TCU comes in 4th, behind Florida, Texas, and Alabama. I think that the AP poll is pretty good, and TCU is where it belongs. (BYU and Utah are somewhat overrated, however...)
AK Cougar | 7:54 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Utah Fans are licking their wounds and claiming MORAL victory after getting rolled. Utah fans could simply accept the FACT that they got beat by a better team and show some sportsmanship. Won't happen though.
to mwc fans | 8:40 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
TCU is good and with the weak teams that are ranked 5-10 there were they should be. TCU is good but plays in a weak conference. Anyine with eyes can see that. Wyoming, csu, New Mexico, San Diego State, Air force. Utah and Byu are decent teams at best. They would be 6-7 win teams in other conferences. TCU deserves a good bcs game.
Not the end of the world! | 8:49 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Utes losing to TCU isn't the end of the world! If they lose to BYU, it will be!
Re: AK Coug | 8:49 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
In looking through most of these comments on Des News and I have not seen much from the ute fans other than respect for TCU. They are the real deal and may be the best team in the country. I see more of the BYU fans trying to use Utahs loss to somehow make them look better. Also see Ute fans doing the same with BYUs win over UNM. It all seems stupid to me. Hopefully we can have all of the MWC win bowl games and hopefully TCU gets to the sugar bowl and beats the SEC runner up. Utah BYU game will be close, both are pretty closely matched. Want to see a win for the Utes but anything can happen.
Utah Fan | 9:44 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
im not some BYU posing as a Utah fan, im a huge Utah fan and hate seeing them lose, but i cant stand reading all the other Utah fans comments. they are still talking some heat even after the thumping TCU put on them. We lost to arguebly the best team in all of college football. Who cares....did you really think Utah was the best team in the nation? if you did then you should stop making comments because you dont know what your talking about. I thought the game would be a little closer but it was pretty clear that if Utah played like they have all season(fumbling the ball, inconsistent offense, and bad team defense) they'd lose the game. They didnt show up to play. I'm just glad they proved all the Utah haters wrong(sorta) everyone was saying Utah would get shut out. For a true freshmen, Jordan Wynn played pretty freaking good, against the fastest, toughest and BEST defense in the country. And as a utah fan, it was amusing to see Utahs RT Bergstrom get rolled around all night by Jerry Hughes(future top ten NFL draft pick)
Dave | 9:53 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Well would you look at that!! We are still ranked ahead of the Kitty Kats. All is truly not wrong with the world. Get ready for that gap to widen over the next two weeks.

Sorry little bros...
Only the weak-minded  | 10:33 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
think the yewts are going to have a chance against BYU. When The Cougars whip their tails, the yewts will drop out of the Top 25 and finish that way. Too bad, good try. Come back next year and we'll do it to you again.
RE:bigutefan | 6:31 p.m.  | 10:46 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Don't you mean: The only poll you WANT to count? But hold on a minute. You don't LIKE the BCS, right? So why pay such slavish attention to their poll?
To Utah Fan | 9:44 p.m. | 10:56 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
A Utah fan with class! Always great to see. Yours is the only reasonable conclusion--Utah and BYU both got blasted by a better team.

I'm pro-BYU, and I'll confess: Yes, I was one of several posters who wrote that TCU would shut down the Utes. No--the Ute offense played as well as they possibly could against arguably the best defense in the country. ("Stuck?"--if you question that, let's have TCU actually FACE OFF against Florida or Texas and FIND OUT--your humble opinion counts for ZERO.)

No "little brother" smack here (knock it off, people, no sense in being jerks about it)--just resignation that this is TCU's year, and congrats to the Frogs! Take care of business against Wyo and the Lobos, and represent the MWC well!
ArmyUte | 1:16 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Why are BYU fans trying to talk smack against this Utah loss? Utah looked more respectable than BYU did, but the simple fact is that both teams got blown out of the water. As a rabid Utah fan and a person who is intensely in love with this rivalry, sure, I will always look for the dark side of BYU and the bright side of Utah, but reality is that both teams lost, and they both lost big.

The thing now is to regroup and look to SDSU and Air Force. Utah needs to rebound and demolish the Aztecs to gain some more momentum coming into the Holy War, and BYU needs to clean up their act, because if they play against Air Force the way they did against New Mexico, they're going to get punched in the mouth and take a 3rd home loss in one season.
re: Stuck | 1:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
yeah on paper those teams are better than TCU but thats why they actually play the game.just ask alabama, oklahoma, and pitt.you must not know much about the game.
Without question, TCU is better | 2:18 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Same story, different chapter. TCU dominated the Utes, just like they did BYU a month earlier. There is no question about it, this year TCU is the best team in the conference by a wide margin.

How it happened was somewhat surprising to me. I expected the Utah defense to play much better than they did, and didn't predict our offense scoring 28 against TCU. I expected a closer game, with much lower scores.

As for the Utah-BYU contest, I expect it will be a great game. Both are good, but certainly not great, teams. We are less that two weeks away from knowing who wins - I for one, don't see that point of trash-talking about what is to come. The superstitious side of me even thinks it's bad for karma. Therefore, I congratulate the Cougars on a fine season, and hope for three (bowl game included) more Ute victories!
Bob in line | 5:30 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
For those who feel TCU is stuck at 4 and for good reason, what happened last year? Last year a 12-0 Utes "snuck" into the Sugar Bowl against the SEC number two and pounded them. The whole BCS world almost imploded. Utah didn't act like a non-qualifying BCS team and actually beat Alabama on the road by a more commanding performance than Florida did at home. The SEC game was basically a homegame for Florida.

If TCU gets to play against the loser of Alabama/Florida (Texas very likely gets the winner) I predict another solid game by a MWC BCS buster and when the dust settles TCU is ranked #2 and the football world for a second years says, 'what the heck?!'

As for Utah, I am BYU all the way yet can recognize that Utah has more heart. BYU rolled over to TCU, Utah fought till the end. I want BYU to win of course, but I'm sweating it.

Utah has the future MWC Offensive Player of the Year in their freshman Jordan Wynn. He is for real and two years from now, another BCS buster-in-waiting.

Go BYU!
Go MWC!
TCU worse than Florida | 5:45 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Florida is completely overrated. Have them play a real team. I guess they will when they play Alabama in 3 weeks. And yes, I KNOW that includes playing FSU in two weeks. How about a BSC game with TCU and BSU? I'd pay to see that. More humble pie for the overrated Broncos.
To weak minded... | 5:49 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
..please take your "weak minded" elsewhere unless you can make a more reasonable and sensical comment. No one in their right mind would predict a whipin one way or another when the Utes and Cougs get together. Likely, it will be a great, close game between two rivals who have no chance at the BCS nor conference this year. Both teams were beaten legit by a better, no, great team. No shame in that. Throw all the stats and records out the window for the showdown in Provo for second place. I think the Utes will prevail mostly because of superior speed. But if the Cougs execute like they did in Laramie, it may be a different story. May the better team of the day win.
akk | 5:56 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU won't move up into the top 2... it's the system that is rigged for the BCS conferences... that should take nothing away from what they have accomplished... just like it didn't when Utah did it... twice. Utes have some work to do but I'm proud of what they have accomplished!!
BYU Fan | 7:07 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Life long BYU fan here. I'd just like to say that after that New Mexico game I'm more inclined to walk around with a paper bag over my head than I am to talk smack with the Utes.
Re>BYU Fan | 7:45 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Go ahead with the paper bag and slip on up to SLC where all the ute fans are wearing bags.

Unfortunately some of them are so dumb they are using plastic bags.

We all need to support TCU in its bid for a BCS bowl they are the UTES of last year and both teams brought respect to the MWC
mike h | 7:54 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU is perhaps the best team in the nation this year.they have made progress every year and are proving to be what arizona state was to the wac.I see them jumping to a bcs conf. within next few years.
THEeyepatch | 7:59 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU would destroy TEXAS, ALABAMA, and FLORIDA. The sad part is we will never find out. College football needs a playoff system. What bothers me is TCU will end up playing some sub-par Notre Dame football program just because they won 6 games and became "bowl" eligible. Pathetic!
Anonymous | 7:59 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
If TCU and Boise get ignored in the title game, it hopefully will add to the drive for a playoff system. Maybe it is a good thing that yet again undefeated teams are denied a shot at the championship. More fuel to the fire.
mike h | 8:22 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I too would love to see a playoff sys. it will never happen as long as tv and big money continue to control college football. because of that we will never know who the real champion is!!
Does it matter... | 8:35 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Who is ranked ahead of who between BYU and Utah. Either way, the score gets settled on Nov 28th if BYU and Utah each win this week. To the clowns from either side of support that keep throwing the ranking in each other's face need a little maturity and education.

At the end of the day, the game on Nov 28th will be a great game. Let's each get a win this weekend to set the table for an awesome finish!
Ernest T. Bass | 9:21 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Why didn't Utah move into the Top 10 in the BCS rankings after the TCU game? After all, we lost to TCU by 4 fewer points than BYU did so that proves we're great.
mike h | 9:49 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The MWC has made some real progress since those eight broke away from the wac. and added tcu. However it is still (as the old skyline conf.was called)a twin engine conf. no major population centers except for ft.worth(soon to be gone) and san diego. For that reason i fear the mwc will never reach bcs status because the small tv market it is in. That is a real shame, because it's as good as the big east even without tcu and improves every year. I can only hope the league will continue to schedule the best competition and add espn for more national coverage. I'm looking forward to the utah/byu game.
Knowledgeable Utah Fan | 10:07 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
We should switch back to Terrance Cain at QB since Wynn wasn't able to beat TCU. I'll bet we would have won that game if Cain had been our starter.
WSU Grad | 10:21 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Why would they pull the redshirt off Wynn? He is going to be really good for the Utes. So why waist a year of eligiblility when the outcome of all there games so far would have been the same with, or without him? Utah's defense is the key to their success no matter who the QB is this year. The only game where he will be an asset will be against BYU. He throws a good ball and that will have the BYU DB's chasing the Ute receivers all over the field in Provo. But is one game against BYU really worth it? I mean, the Utes have a good chance to win that game without the Freshman.
re: WSU grad | 12:31 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Good one, dude! "The utes have a chance to beat BYU with either Cain or Wynn as their QB." RIGHT!!! Man, you are SO FUNNY! Funniest post I've seen all day!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
AZ BYU Fan  | 12:59 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU #1. I would take TCU over FL, Bama and TX. All those schools have had close victories against mediocre competion. The SEC is overated. FL has a soft offense so does Bama. TCU is strong on both sides of the ball. Those schools have had some close calls. FL should have lost against Arkansas, AR did not have a good kicker, that was the difference. The only reason folks don't like TCU is based on their conference afiliation and that they are TCU and not a known power.
BYU > Utah | 1:07 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
rankings in AP/Coaches/BCS polls

BYU #19 / #18 / #22
Utah #23 / #23 / #21

but, here's the kicker

BYU plays #49 Air Force (Sagarin ratings)
Utah plays #105 SDSU

both teams are tied with Miami in the computer ratings at 0.1900.

after the games this Saturday, Utah's SOS will drop, BYU's SOS will go up;

assuming both teams win Saturday

BYU will be ranked ahead of Utah in all of the polls, including the BCS, coming into their game with the Utes on November 28th

neither team's fans have any business beating their chests over rankings, however, until AFTER the BYU-Utah game

bottom line:

the winner of the BYU-Utah game will finish 2nd in the MWC and will be ranked in the Top 20 heading into the bowl season

the loser of the BYU-Utah game will finish 3rd in the MWC and will be unranked before the bowls
Monsieur le prof | 1:20 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I agree with AZ BYU fan. TCU is the real deal, just like Utah was last year. Utah should have been playing for the Nat'l Championship. They had a great team and kicked 'Bama all over the field. It was great for our conference.
I'm hoping TCU will be able to do the same thing....BYU vs. UofU will be a toss-up, but I'm hoping the Cougars will come out on top.

dyed-in-the-wool BYU fan

Let's clear up "knowledgeable and MWC's" confusion
TCU is 8-1 against the BCS since joining the MWC.

Their lone BCS loss is to OU in Norman last year holding Bradford's record-setting offense to its lowest output of the year.

Last team to beat OU at Norman? TCU
Last team to beat Boise? TCU last December
Huge win against a good Clemosn team AT CLEMSON
Big win AT BYU - the same BYU that upset OU and ruined their season IN DALLAS which may as well have been Norman
Huge win against a young, but very good Utah team.

Texas Tech trying to back out of contract to play home and home against the Frogs 2010 and 2011.
Notre Dame rejecting a near commitment to play TCU at Cowboy stadium in 2010

NOBODY wants to play the FROGS ...one of the fastest, hardest hitting teams in the country.

None of it matters unless we do what a great Utah team did last year - beat the BCS power they select for us, and show the world again that the MWC should be part of the BCS sham

ACC, Big Least, Big 10, PAC 10??? LOL! come on
TED | 3:37 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Matter of fact is; TCU is not over rated and both BYU and UTAH are. To bad TCU won't get a shot at the NC game! I'am a BYU fan and always will be. I'am also honest.
Here's The Deal | 5:18 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
TCU will not get a chance at the BCS title game unless one of the other three lose. Probably will not happen. So the next best thing would be for Florida to play Alabama very tough in the SEC champs game and lose by a very small margin, perhaps even a controversial play. Then TCU can stomp the Gators in a bowl game and the whole world will then know what we know.
RE Here's the deal | 8:21 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
The real deal is that the y and u are way over-rated. Should Florida State be ranked high for thumping the y? Are blind enough to think the u is a powerhouse with a freshman qb?

TCU is made up of players that Texas passed on. Florida or Texas would blow out TCU just as OU did in their prime last year.

MWC . . . where fans are in lala land.

re: the deal | 8:21 p.m. | 9:06 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Spoken like a typical clueless elitist; the same types who said Utah would get killed by Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma would crush BYU in Dallas.

Unfortunately, the big boys have conspired to monopolize major college football.

--First, they won't even schedule teams like BYU, Utah, Boise State and TCU (they're cancelling already scheduled series left and right)

--Second, they use the excuse that "they (non-AQs) haven't played anybody" to justify excluding them from automatic inclusion in the BCS bowls and any legitimate chance to compete for a national championship

The truth is, the big boys are scared to death that if they ever created a level playing field where they had to beat the little guys, instead of in the opinion polls, the little guys would quickly prove what a farce the BCS really is.

Have Florida, LSU, USC, Texas, Oklahoma start scheduling BYU, Utah, TCU and Boise State home-and-home and the farce would be exposed.
League of their own | 1:38 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Frogs belong in the NC game. Hopefully Patterson gets lured away to a BCS school and TCU will be on par with the mediocre conference they're in. Otherwise the Frogs will be a "plague" for all the other MWC teams for years to come.
fan of football | 2:35 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
i have been watching Florida all year and its very clear they belong at #1 that being said let anyone in the country take a shot at them. I also watched the TCU vs BYU I stoped watching it before half time and I also watched the TCU vs Utah that to i stoped watching before half time. I guess what im trying to say is that if you all think that TCU vs florida or TCU vs Texas or TCU vs Alabama can win then good luck none of these teams are weak and have played well all season from here on out there is not going to be anyone with a sure fire victory in the top 4 good luck and Go Gators
@Fan of Football | 2:56 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Your right. I know florida was the best team in the country right after they put a beating on Charleston Southern and Troy. Also i'm looking forward to a barn burner versus FIU. Also i'm glad that they play a challenging 4 freaking game road schedule. SEC scheduling is a joke.
BSU, Utah over-, TCU under-rated | 6:22 p.m. Nov. 17, 2009
Utah is very overrated; they don't belong in the Top 25, but it will help BYU's end of season ranking that they destroyed another ranked team.

Boise State is so incredibly overrated, playing in the D-II/High School conference otherwise known as the WAC, and only beating one decent team a year, at best...BSU sucks, and they don't have a chance, and rightly so, for the BCS NCG...

TCU should be #1 or #2 in the nation; they play in an incredible conference, right up there with the SEC, Big-12, etc. The PAC-1+9, the Big (L)East, the ACC, and the Big-10 are all inferior to the MWC.

And IMHO, BYU didn't perform nearly as well as we could have this year. Any year BYU doesn't win 12 or more games and end up in the top 10 they are playing below themselves, IMHO. However, BYU's failing to play to their ability isn't nearly as pathetic as BSU and UTAH, pretty much every single year, just plain sucking, but getting way too much credit for their weak performances. Last year was a fluke...
