I'm sure he'll wind up at Fox with other CNN expatriots like Glen Beck who lost their credibility.
Filtered Commentary | 7:06 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
During the 2008 elections I noticed that both Dobbs and Beck (when he was with CNN) didn't comment too much about them. They both seemed focused on immigration. I just assumed CNN filtered them so they don't upset the candidates.

Here here! Good riddance, Lou.

All well said. Opinion is good but without some basis in facts or reality then all you have is Fox news fodder. MSNBC maybe opinion journalism but at least they don't make everything up out of thin air - they quote scripture and verse practically - whereas FOX, and soon to be Fox employee Dobbs, Beck and the other nutcases are opinionated, and have rarely reported a factual piece of news, and when they do you use a real quote its so totally out of context it becomes a caricature. Anyway that's off the subject but I couldn't stand Dobbs and his separation from reality.

This keeps getting edited so it must be offensive, but Pierce this quote of yours could related to you, "Whatever you think of him and the views he expressed, he wasn't doing his job. He wasn't acting professionally. He was embarrassing his employer."

Just because you don't agree with a person's opinion doesn't make your statement's correct either.

Dobbs and Beck are actors who give their devotees a mess of lies, opinions, and rumors which they represent as facts. Sadly, many believe them.
soakblue | 9:13 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Eric, truth appears to be in the eye of the beholder in your case. MSNBC is just as adept at taking things out of context as Fox News is. Incidentally, I highly doubt Fox would pick up Dobbs. Scott Pierce is right, he's a nutcase. He doesn't appear to know his limits.
K | 9:41 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
CNN is hardly raw news free of analysis and without bias.
Anonymous | 10:01 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
are you serious? keith oblerman, chris matthews, katie couric, tom brokaw, dan rather, cooper anderson, etc. you think these people are objective? you're a joke.
Come on Pierce !! | 10:33 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
"You can't deliver highly opinionated commentary and still deliver a credible newscast. And CNN – arguably to its own detriment – has resisted the trend of putting highly opinionated commentators in prime-time programs. As Fox News and MSNBC have done very successfully"

This is so bogus Scott Pierce...

1. Lou Dobbs was commentator not a news guys. Get your facts straight Pierce. Of course Lou gave his opinion - the problem was it was a conservative opinion on a liberal news station.
2. MSNBC successful? Way What? Look at the ratings Pierce. MSNBC is in the tank!!!
Bot | 2:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Look, CNN has always been an opinionated supporter of Democrats and our new socialist president Obama. Lou Dobbs had the highest ratings for CNN, because it was clear he was not in the pocket of Obama's socialists.

This will hurt CNN's ratings and any semblence of objectivity they had. Now CNN can spew Obama's Chicago-style politics without fear of being called out by one of their own.
In he middle | 6:35 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Lou Dobbs was neither right or left. He was both. It depended on the issue. I didn't always agree with him, but he was the only CNN show that I would watch. The others filled their time quota with the leftist view and not as opinion.
sj | 7:20 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Well said Bot and Come on Pierce. I agree!
Evets | 8:26 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
At least Dobbs HAD an opinion! I am so sick of talking heads that just read the talking points they are given.
Anonymous | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I used to enjoy watching Dobbs when I had time, although I didn't always agree with him. I have found in recent years that most mainstream media have their own biases and it shows in their slanted coverage (or sometimes noncoverage) of events.

It has been quite some time since I have trusted local media or national mainstream media to deliver unbiased news, including the Deseret News. I do believe the DN is a bit fairer than its largest competitor, though, and recently switched my subscription to the DN. Most of the opionion pieces are in the editorial section where you would expect them to be.

I shall miss Dobbs and look forward to hearing what he will do next. In the meantime, I will continue to watch Beck when I can to balance out what I hear from mainstream media. I am truly disappointed in our so-called mainstream media and their elitist attitude. It seems they tell us what they think we need to hear rather than simply report the news. It's no wonder the public has lost trust.
maybe i'm naive | 9:36 a.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I am young and so I must be stupid but I never realized Dobbs was a journalist. I just thought he had a political talk show. I never heard the guy talk about anything other than immigration, but I've never watched his show for more than a couple minutes at a time since they only place i've seen it is where I didn't have control of the remote!

Who watches MSNBC and FOX and this stuff on CNN?? I guess I shouldn't waste my time on internet comment boards but I'd read before I'd watch those channels any day!
Bill | 12:08 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
I guess Dobbs was just doing what most 'news' people do on CNN and the other more liberal networks....that is letting their personal opinion show through. I even see it on our local news programs periodically. Only the others spread the liberal agenda while Dobbs did the conservative.

There is no doubt that Lou Dobbs has acquired a faithful following that will go wherever he goes, and I am sure he will find a spot.

At this time it is so very important that his kind of thinking gets air time regularly.
Too Bad | 12:11 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Too bad CNN will no longer have Dobbs, who helped provide some balance to what's going on in our country. And frankly, I agree with Dobbs' opinions about illegal immigrants. There's no question that our country would be far better off if the illegal immigrant problem had been taken care of LONG AGO. CNN is going to be worse off without Dobbs. And Pierce, if you can give your opinions, then why can't Dobbs? You're yakking out of both sides of your mouth.
