Short term progress with no long term considerations and implications of progress are the reasons. Much of the blame is being placed on global warming rather than incompentent and irresponsible development.

Progress in america and Utah means to lay waste to land that doesn't have high density housing.

Hawaii wanted the tourist and the got their wish, now they are losing their homeland islands. It's amazing what a few dollars can buy.

Seems like Hawaii's due for a tsunami, hurricane or landslide or large storm surge that will take out a few of these trees and again expand the beach, the same that happens with rest of the world, through its millions of years of geologic time. Just look at the Hawaii Islands the older they are the smaller they get.

That is one of the dangers of shore line property, the shore line is constantly changing. I grew up in a small town by Lake Michigan. A couple of months ago this summer I went to visit, and the shore line is very different than it was when I was growing up. Scientist said that Hawaii's beach was likely changing since the 19th century. This is nothing to panic about. It's a natural change!

Not trying to downplay the loss of beach sand, but historical research will show that decades ago large amounts of sand were removed from beaches in California and used to augment Hawaiian Island beaches. Are we seeing the loss of sand from beaches that never naturally had that much sand to begin with?

Erosion is happening and it is all due to global warming! Someone should tell the geologists in our national parks here in Utah that the "erosion" they say caused Zion Canyon couldn't really have happened because global warming wasn't happening over the last many thousands of years. Throw out all the old Geology textbooks and write a new one with just one chapter - global warming. Erosion isn't natural - it's a man-made disaster and it's all caused by global warming!
