Great, but we're all going to eat lard filled casseroles and jello salad on Saturday night. How do we shift this culture to one of awareness of health and awareness of diabetes? Instead we obsess about the Word of Wisdom. We should be drinking green tea and shunning the brownies and jello for pete's sake!!!

I hope people will listen to the messages. Speaking as one who has revised how he eats and lost 70 lbs. One who exercises daily and who is greatful to get very good check-ups from my doctor, I have an understanding of the importance of taking care of myself. Life is not all about work, TV and eating. If your overweight please, start changing your life today. You'll be glad you did.

Diabetes is one of the most misunderstood and mistreated maladies in America. And our current healthcare system does not look at it or treat it properly, otherwise, why are the number of diabetics rising, and why do they end up like Miller, losing his life only after scores of doctors have been treating him for years in traditional ways-pumping insulin into an insulin-resistant body. Miller was a great philanthropist in many ways, but if you want to help others, you need to take care of yourself first. And, he didn't do that by the way he ate and the way he didn't exercise. Sorry, DeeDee, but brownies and jello are not the cause of our diabetic epidemic.

Sometimes I think that all the fast-food, junk food, and marginally poisonous food, should be taxed about the same as cigarettes, and the money used for research and health care. Even better, that kind of food could be banned as serious health hazards. Surely the way we keep insisting on thoughtlessly abusing our bodies is at the root of the diabetic epidemic.

My sister worked in Tonga for a summer on their exploding diabetic epidemic. As the islanders have changed their diet, embracing the worst American standbys, their bodies, unable to process the refined ingredients and sugar laden foods, have reacted with diabeties in overwhelming numbers.

It is a miserable way to die, piece by piece.

Make a stand for good health and do it today by changing the way you think about, purchase, prepare and consume food.
