Andre!?!?!? | 8:48 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I wonder what goes through his head sometimes...what was he doing on that 3? Selfish or stupid...which is it?
Kev | 8:53 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Don't worry Jazz fans! Williams is out but we have Andrei Kirilenko to take any shot beyond the three point line, even 28 footers with twenty seconds on the shot clock!

Well now we see what happens when the whole team doesn't stand around waiting for dwill to do something.
Well... | 9:16 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Andrei's ill-advised 3 may have done us in, but what an effort. 2-2 on a 4 game roadie ain't too shabby, especially without Deron. Nice play by the rookies.

i hope d will watched both games jazz offense works better when you move the ball
Re: Casey | 9:21 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
It's called Maynor baby!

Wes Matthews too!!!
Basketballogy | 9:21 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
AK47 clearly shouldn't have attempted that 3, but in his defense, the Cavs denied the inbounds pass and nearly got a 5 second count turnover, ultimately leaving the Jazz with a broken play which lead to the bad decision made on the fly.

But if we are going to lament boneheaded last minute plays, let's not leave out Maynor's bad foul with 20 seconds left that put LeBron on the line to change a 2 point (1 possession) game into a 4 point (2 possession) game.

Before anyone claims the Jazz only kept it close because Shaq was out, they need to check the season stats. The list of centers that are scoring and rebounding more than Shaq is long and includes Okur, Jermain O'Neal, Marc Gasol, etc.

Yes, it was a road loss, but seriously, did anyone expect differently?

The Jazz had a 1 point lead with just 42 seconds left in the game and gave the Cavs a good scare.

Dressing only 9 players, the Jazz definitely have my respect for these last two games. Well done.
CJ3 | 9:22 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Oops!

Haters are wrong again.

Y'all say Williams scores too much, but Maynor put up 24 in Cleveland.

*pointing finger* HA ha!
Hugh G. Hater | 9:23 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
AK blew it big time.
Here was a big road trip win in their sights and Kryalenko chucks it up.

Kudos to the rookies!

Where has the 3pt shot gone?
jason | 9:31 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Terrific effort tonight. I'd love to see Jerry play Maynor and Williams together, with Millsap and Boozer at forward, and Okur at center. Think about that lineup...it would be tremendous. It would be very difficult for anyone in the league to defend.
Okur would stretch the defense with his ability to hit the outside shot, Boozer and Millsap could pound away down low in the paint, Williams could look to be more offensive minded, and Maynor could get the defense in a scramble with his ability to get into the paint. Just a thought.
Ak Fan | 9:39 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Man it was close. Boozer yelled shoot it. If you see replay but that doesn't make any excuse he should keep his head cool. Now fair weather fanz will jump on bandwagon. James was checked until last minutes he has only 15 something points. Cleveland plays better without Shaq.

Good game. Someone like Miles predicting blow out loss didn't happen. loss is loss.

Go AK.
Basketballogy | 9:45 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
@Casey

Yeah, and what the whole team is waiting for is for DWill to pass the ball!

Before everyone gets all rabid about AK47's failed 3 attempt...

An NBA basketball game is 48 minutes long.

Nearly all fans, and many players, fail to see that each minute is just as important as the other.

In other words, the Jazz would have survived Andre's boneheaded 3, and Maynor's brain dead foul, if they wouldn't have let the Cavs have a 34 to 22 head start in the first quarter!

The 12 point hole they dug themselves came back to haunt them at game's end, because it robbed them of any buffer that could have absorbed either Jazz mistakes, or heroic efforts by the Cavs.

At any rate, why does everyone have to rag on these guys all the time? Are Jazz fans obsessed with being negative?

Give the some Jazz credit, Cleveland has a very stingy defense and had only one loss at home all last season.

Six of the eight players the Jazz suited up scored in double figures. It was a balanced, team effort with ball and player movement.
WATCHING | 9:46 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
AK has been watching TAVERNARI.
Broken play? | 9:53 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
There shouldn't have been a broken play, other than to get the ball in. AK should have taken the ball out to the top of the arc and set up the offense. That shot cost us the game! Well, OK, there were probably other plays earlier that also didn't work, but that play cost us a shot at winning what was at that point a 1-pt game. Not sure what AK was thinking.

But I have to admit, when I flipped over to sneak a peak, it was far closer than I was expecting. Based on the Boston game, I would not have been surprised to see the Jazz behind by 20 in Cleveland too.
Proud Jazz Fan | 10:05 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I agree with all of the people being negative to go find a new team to rag on. The jazz played with heart and especially with starting two rookies. Cleveland is picked by a lot of people to be in the finals this year and let's not forget that they only lost twice at home last year. I am proud of Maynor and Matthews, I just wish that our veterans would step it up a little more, surprisingly, not including Boozer. But great effort and good job, You do have some fans that are proud of what you do.
Go Jazz!!!
Tough loss | 10:08 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Even though the Jazz lost, it was a great effort considering they played the night before and Cleveland is a very good team. I cringed when Ak took that 3 point shot, but I think the turnovers and terrible 3 point defense did them in more than anything.
Basketballogy | 10:15 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
@CJ3

Given that I don't see anyone else "*pointing finger*" or "HA ha!" at anyone else, you appear to be the only here behaving like a hater... but don't worry, the night is still young.

I don't know about anyone else's opinion, but speaking just for myself...

I love Deron Williams. I have always thought he was better than Chris Paul.

And I don't think the problem with DWill is that he scores too much, but I do think this year he seems to be playing more for his glory than his teams.

I also think the Jazz are more successful when he moves the ball.

For example, DWill averages 18.5 shots per game in the Jazz losses this year, and 11.3 shots in their victories.

Likewise, Maynor had 14 shot attempts and 11 assists in their win against Philly, and 16 shot attempts and just 4 assists in the Jazz loss at Cleveland.

In other words, I'm not hating on DWill, I'm just pointing out the Jazz win more often when he shoots just a little bit less and passes a little bit more.
Casey | 10:33 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
Losing dwill really forced the other starters to dig themselves out of their rut and play tough ball. Hard loss at the end but a great performance nonetheless. Who new it would be our rookies showing the real heart and guts these past couple games. Keep it up!
And if AK..... | 10:36 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
makes that shot, he's a hero!!!!!

It's part of the game. I'll take the 2009 Ak that seems to have found his shot again vs the 07-08 AK that looked lost out there. JAzz are going to get things turned around. 2-2 on the road, that would have been awesome last year.
Re: Basketballogy | 10:48 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
I honestly see dwill's attempt at more shots this year a symptom rather than a cause of our problems. How many times have we seen him make the pass and the movement just die while the team waits for him to sprint around and get open so they can pass it back? If we were to generalize the main problem I'd say it was lazy, sloppy play more than dwill taking more shots.

If the rest of the veterans on the team moved and played hard like they did tonight and they had dwill, I see a win against Cleveland. I'm not taking anything away from Maynor however, he was fantastic.
A.K.Fan | 10:50 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
A.K. Clearly Blew It. What the heck was he thinking. Blew the game after all the effort to get back in it. Selfish. Great team work A.K. This loss is on you.
jazz man 98 | 11:11 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
We went on a road trip and only lost to the cavs and the celtics. That isnt to shabby, the lakers, nuggets, suns or whoever else would be hard pressed to do that. They will turn it around, plus D will could have spoted us at least 4 pts. GO JAZZ!! Best wishes Dwill on the family situation, we are all behind you.
Classic picture of Booze | 11:22 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
eyes closed and short of the mark on defense. His no defense attitude cost us the game....and so it goes game after game. He is no Super Star, look at the picture, it is worth a thousand words.
todd from santa ana | 11:50 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
what a night the jazz, then the REAL game I taped and what a great moment for the state, guys good luck against the "arrogant Galaxy"

Look, I am proud of the effort. Very much. AK shot was ill advised. I thought Boozer played a good overall game. Maynor I hope I am wrong about. It was good that Lebron approached him after the game, he respects the kid and probably had good things to say to him.

Maynor played well. I thought AK killed them several times defensively patrolling the lane for "anticipating to need with help defense that was never needed"

As a result, the 3s rang up with "Jer and the Sloanaholics" philosophy. Is 9 "3s" enough?

Brewer struggled all game. Matthews was good again and frankly should have played more. Okur hit shots in the 4th quarter but played poor defense and had a "heavy -" for the game.

More were at fault than Boozer tonight defensively. I thought Maynor was good and quicker to rotate to the 3 point shooters than even DWIL.

It is too bad--was good effort especially offensively,

Defense and 3 point shooting by opponent killed us again
Chuck Nunn | 1:58 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Fesenko got in the game for just 4 minutes. The Jazz were +3 while he was on the floor. Go to Jazz Oracle to see what I mean, or you can just ask David Locke what that means. I guarantee LeBron wouldn't have gotten to the basket with just a slap in the arm if Fess or even Koufos were in there. What's it going to take?

Peace out from the Jazz Oracle.
B in 623 | 2:09 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Jazz fans are all fairweather negative crybabies. I think most of the one's who post are uneducated at best when it comes to the NBA. Be thankful you aren't a Golden State Warriors fan. I love my Jazz always will all the haters should keep their opinions to themselves. Go Jazz!!!!
Anonymous | 2:38 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
If James hadn't blown right past AK, Boozer wouldn't have needed to try to get in front of him to try to take the charge. And good luck getting that call!
NY Jazzfan | 5:44 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
I'm not trying to be a homer...but, I was pleased with the way the Jazz didn't give up. That's the first "fight" I've seen all year from them. They could have given up after the first quarter. Barely losing to the Cavs in Cleveland was a good sign.

And, although AK shouldn't have taken the shot; there is no guarantee if he makes it that the Jazz win regardless.

I'm liking what the Rookies are doing to the chemistry!!!
scodyshootfight (KC) | 6:12 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
This does not look good for Ronnie Brewer and his contract negotiations. Nice move by the Jazz not to sign him. I am a Brewer fan, but Wes Matthews plays the D AND can shoot the 3. The Jazz are better with Matthews on the floor!
Anonymous | 7:29 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
I honestly think Maynor can run the offense better than D-Will.
Who's the real veterans? | 7:52 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Maynor and Matthews the last couple games look like they've been playing in the NBA for years and played their hearts out I might add. LeBron James even walked up to them at the end of the game and gave them some hats off comments and they've earned my respect as well. As for Boozer and AK, they've also played a little better lately but both of them made rookie-like decisions at the end of this game that was very winnable against a team that could very well end up in the finals this year.

On the positive side, I will at least say that my faith in the Jazz is momentarily restored in spite of the slow 4-6 start, but if we play this way all season long, especially on the road, we will be another good team mixing it up in the playoffs. GO JAZZ!!
rdha | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Another game for the good ole' Jazz to learn from so they can win more games this season. GO JAZZ!!

Another good effort,a break here and there...different outcome, hey 2-2 on the road trip and the two games we lost were to Boston and Cleveland two of the best,GO Jazz, let`s go home and win em all at home, excited about Matthews and Maynor....want to see more Fes and Koufos

Anyone one that competes knows at the time when you have to bare down, when it's all on the line and the bloods pumping and you choke how it feels( I personally blew $76,000.00 at 2 different team roping jackpots). So I give credit to AK (not a huge fan). If I were to fault any one it would be Okur. His defense is horrible. After watching the Nugget, Laker game it was obvious that the Jazz defense is in need of a coach.
Chuck Nunn I agree
Love Sloans comments | 9:29 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
The man has no other choice than to use Maynor and Mathews, and then referring to KK he says and I quote-That being so young he's trying to understand the mechanics of the game and it's probaly slowing him down. How many of the veteran players probaly suffer this also? Play them Jerry thats how they learn just like Maynor and Mathews if they get the minutes they learn! Give me a break! Jerrys newly adopted son Milsap could also use some mechanic improving and maybe he wouldn't be so foul prone. I do appreciate that he is showing hustle again finally! Maybe if Boozer and Memo get hurt or need time off Jerry will give Fess & KK the minutes it takes to improve mechanics like our 2 rooks. After all when KK played steady for a short term last year his game improved drastically also. Quit the loving on veterans and give the youngsters a chance more Sloan! Afterall the regular season is played for seeding only anyway! It's what you do in the end that counts.
However | 9:38 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
If the Jazz had won the 6 games they have lost, they'd be undefeated. 10-0. You have to look at it that way too. The Jazz just need to score more points than their opposition. Problem solved. I love being a Jazz fan.
jazzman72 | 10:31 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Another encouraging game, despite the loss. At least we can see the effort is there. Maynor and Matthews are pleasant surprises. Brewer's days are numbered. I hope they allow the rookies to still get some minutes once everyone else is back. That's the only way this team will improve in the long run.
Doc Davidson | 10:35 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
@ Chuck Nunn....Dude I love your comments! I have seriously enjoyed reading your comments from time to time over the last 3 years. But you only post like once every two months. Where is this "Jazz Oracle" you speak of? I have searched the entire web! I want starving for more words from Chuck Nunn! Peace Out Buddy!
Doc Davidson | 10:41 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Chuck Nunn is right and so Is B.R. from time to time! Fess is a big force that needs to be inserted into the paint at certain times to shut down layups and "two & ones".

Fess and Wess even Maynor tooo! These three are our future! DO NOT LET THESE THREE GO! I do not care about the rest of the team, even DeRon is overrated! He wants to be on TV and be in the allstar game! We want to win games with Wess Mathews!
Rookies | 10:47 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
You have a typo. Its Maynor who had 24 pts. Matthews had 13 pts.
sloan's advice | 11:09 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
I gaurantee Sloan told Maynor that he shoots too much. Mark my words, you will see a change in Maynor because "we don't need anyone going one on one in this offense".

Sloan will make sure Maynor knows not to shoot and to run the offense.
John Wicks | 11:18 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Looks like Maynor was a good pick. This should put him ahead or Ronnie when he returns. Still would like to see Koufos play. Good road trip for the Jazz.
CJ3 | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Welcome to the DNews comments, Basketballogy. Since it's obvious this is the very first thread you've ever read here, let me fill you on the real haters.

They want to dump Sloan, Boozer, and say D Will is overrated and shoots too much. They all play at arm-chair GM, saying "gut the Jazz, we'd rather be in the lottery."

You have to get the jump on that sort of idiocy around here.

Now, Maynor took two very, very poor shots, with very good looks from close range last night, when the game was in the balance.

The rookie PG has shown amazing maturity and ball control, and will probably, deservedly take the backup 1-spot from Price (a faux-fan fav).

Had D Will been in that game, he would not have missed those clutch shots, putting the Jazz ahead. Plus, AK would never have been in that situation if Deron was there.

Have to say that Maynor and Booz run the PnR as beautifully as anyone in the league! Let's hope Williams notices how effective #5 can be when the offense is executed properly.
the brain surgon | 11:58 a.m. Nov. 15, 2009
wow , all the millions wasted on this game...society is headed for a breakdown!
B.R. | 12:16 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Chuck how do we go to the Jazz Oracle. I agree with your comments and also wonder what it is going to take. I've been very frusterated for along time in Jerry's inability to work with and develop the young bigs. Would like to read more of what you have to say.

Nevada fan, enjoy your comments. Keep telling it like it is.

Love Sloans comments, whoever you are, you are spot on. Couldn't have said it any better.

EB | 12:34 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Interesting that the two rookies played four years in college. Like Duncan, they know fundamentals.
TheWiz | 1:22 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
This is not a loss to be down about. Yes, we lost, but only by 4 points. I told myself: if the Jazz play in Cleveland the way they did in Philly, then they would be in the game late.

If the Jazz play like this, with or without Deron, I have no reason to doubt that they will win all 5 upcoming home games, and possibly the roadie at San Antone. As they play like this, the wins will come.
Caged Players  | 2:14 p.m. Nov. 15, 2009
Maynor
Miles
Matthews
Koufos
Fesenko
Milsap

If I were the coach these players would all get some serious playing time. The guy's who don't defend would be put into Fesenko's and Koufos's cage.
