Combat vs politics | 6:45 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
This does not surprise me at all. Our soldiers are in a battle with our government and targets of opportunity for the Taliban. This was the same kind of war we had in Vietnam, limited and restricted military fighting.

Plus the fact that there is no defined and recognizable army to fight and there never will be. All our soldiers are doing is defending themselves from terrorism now and it is having an as expected and demoralizing affect on the troops. Soldiers are trained to fight a defined enemy and the enemy there are civilians fighting american occupation.

Our occupation is having a negative affect and its time to pull out and rethink this war.

Why wouldn't morale... | 7:26 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009
be down. The troops are out there putting their lives on the line while the politicians at home are dithering and playing politically correctness games.

The troops' tours of duty are entirely too frequent.

Being in a combat situation and continuously in fear for your life and your comrades is about as stressful as it gets. Even for the troops who are not on the front lines, being away from their loved ones creates added stresses to families, marriages and children.

Instead of being so politically correct and burying their heads in the sand the politicians should seek solutions to relieve troop's stressful situations.

Take some of this psuedo money the feds create and pay enlistment bonuses.

Why not establish a program whereby young adults in the U.S. illegally, can become citizens if they agree to enlist and complete their enlistment. I'd sure respect and welcome as a fellow citizen any illegal who was willing to serve the U.S.

I was drafted and spent my time in service to my country, as did many millions of my friends and neighbors. Why can't others?

Time for the president to use some of his charm for these worth troops. His party calls them baby killers and he needs to set the record straight.

Understandable | 3:06 p.m. Nov. 14, 2009
When President Bush was the commander in chief, there was no moral problem at all, just the opposite as spirits were very high! It is completely understandable that they are discouraged with the present "commander in chief" who has done nothing but apologize to our enemies all over the world and vacilate about defending this nation! I am very discouraged also!
